So SD just gave Machado the biggest FA deal in history, catapulting themselves into the 75 win range and semi-relevance. What do they do from here? They have the best farm system in the game, but their current pitching staff is a nightmare, so it seems to make sense to at least think about guys like Keuchel and Gio Gonzalez, although the new article up on the Athletic by the SD beat writer makes it sound like they don't like either of them.

"That may not wind up being the case with left-hander Dallas Keuchel, who, like Harper, is a Scott Boras client. Sources indicate that the Padres’ interest is muted, that the team would prefer to see how its young, cost-controllable starters perform before pursuing a major addition. There have been industry whispers that Keuchel’s shoulder is not completely sound, though the former Cy Young winner’s 2018 — 34 starts and more than 200 innings — did not seem to show it. Meanwhile, team officials have hinted that another veteran lefty, Gio González, does not move the needle for them."
