I don't think he's going to start again, so it makes sense.
I mean, it makes sense from that perspective, but it's just because they are desperate and don't trust (correctly) half of their staff. Corbin threw 107 pitches Thursday against this same team, so 2 days rest against guys who just saw him and his first relief appearance since 2017.

I know the Nats don’t have a good pen but how do you leave Corbin out to dry like this?

It's natural that I root for the Nats in the playoffs, add another 50 years and they're the NL version of the Indians.

Just when you think Martinez finally gets a handle on managing pitchers, this.

Hopefully, the fact that the Nationals won the wild card game won’t prevent them from firing the worst manager in the major leagues. God, Dave Martinez makes Grady Little and Don Zimmer look good.

Between Dave Martinez and Matt Williams, you could argue the Nats have had two of the worst managers this century. Bobby Valentine and the crazy guy who managed the Reds a few years ago are other strong candidates.

I mean, at some point you have to acknowledge that even if Martinez pulled all the "right" levers, he has little in the way of decent pitching behind his starters.

and that's why Corbin was left in so long.

Corbin just blew, that was the game. now you hope Scherzer & Strasburg have it again.

This won't be the first time this postseason where someone pulls their starter after 5 innings and then the pen blows it. When you do that you increase the chance of putting someone out there that just doesn't have it.

And in the case of the Nats, that someone is everyone.

When there are 5 guys on the staff who can get anyone out, and one of them just finished 5 innings, and two others are unavailable, and the other 2 are basically one inning guys, what choice does he really have?

And so he took his starter out why?

And he’s totally asleep again leaving Rodney in for 30 pitches.

And where is Austin Voth. Guy was nails all September. 3.30 ERA in 43 innings. Yet we’re running Suero, Rodney, and Strickland out there.

kendrick has been pretty solid for them this year. there was an article put out recently where he admitted that his body just cant handle being an everyday starter. he probably needs a couple days off.

the managing situation is 100% on the nats ownership. i dont know much about bud black so cant say if hed be better but do know they only hired Matt Williams after lowballing Black and not going any higher.

the nats bullpen blowing it in the playoffs was pretty much a guarantee before the start of the playoffs. a lot of national league teams have bad bullpens but the nats were by far the worst in the league. their bullpen ERA(5.66) is 1.48 runs higher than the next worst team that made it to a divisional series, which is Atlanta at 4.18. just really really bad

Granted, I didn’t see the game, but I’m not sure how Martinez’s move to bring in Corbin was all that different from how Cora managed his bullpen last year - other than the results, of course.

I also don’t think having Scherzer tonight and Strasburg for Game Five is the worst position to be in if you’re the Nats.

Should have pulled Corbin after the Martin double, or maybe the Taylor walk -- he was clearly laboring at that point, and it's still a winnable game at 3-2.

The next guy in gave up a HR and a booming double to the first two batters he saw, the reason Corbin was in on two days rest to begin with was that they had no way of covering those innings competently.

Sanchez has a 9 ERA third time through the order. It was the right move taking him out.
The guys who came in rang up a 20.25 ERA the first time through the order. Just giving up one per inning would have been a tremendous improvement. The Nats don't have the luxury of taking the ball from anyone who happens to be getting results in any game.

Thanks. Which NL team are you, as a NY fan, least enthusiastic about facing?
I think NY is the second best team behind HOU, so getting there against any of them would be great. NY would have home field against all but the Dodgers, so rooting against them. Those NL bullpens are all brutal though, I think the AL winner wins it all.

if this holds up, Walker Buehler still starts at home one more time. If the Dodgers can get Strasburg out of the game, the Nats will have literally nobody to cover middle innings.

that said, the Nats were one good Corbin outing away from stealing this series and still have a great shot to do so. but Scherzer has to stay on for awhile yet tonight.
