The Cardinals were on the other end in a game like this, losing 11-0 after 5 innings the game after Denkinger’s blown call cost them game 6. 1985 World Series.

19 games they scored 10 or more this season. So like 12%.
Just can't give up anything else
Yeah, it's 12% if they can somehow stop the Cards from scoring again *and* get 10+ runs off of the best pitcher in baseball over the second half of the season. So more like 0.00012%.

I guess I won't need to stay up past 2 a.m. CET here in Vienna ahead of my flight home tomorrow morning, anyway. (Being an Atlanta fan is nothing but looking for silver linings.)

where I was last at
Will this be the greatest comeback game in the MLB postseason history?

Cardinals have already made their defensive changes before their guys even hit the field.
Francesa just comped this game in terms of homecrowd hopelessness to '04 Game 7 ALCS, as the MFY were down 6-0 in the 2nd. (he said 8-0)

I thought for sure Atlanta had this when they started Mike Folywitzshitsicle in this game...………...I thought the update on my phone was wrong and it was 1-0.

I suppose someone is going to tell me Folywitzshitsicle has been lights out this year.

Not today he ain't.

He wasn’t great but IMO Fried was the real gas can. Just threw nothing but garbage up there.

He had to warm and enter super quickly, it’s easy to say ‘be ready for anything’ in a game 5 but that came out of nowhere.

I wonder what the parlay pays out for the Braves, Dodgers, and Astros getting eliminated.
I'm guessing it will be zero (because I highly doubt both LA and HOU lose) but I know that wasn't your point.

I'm finally alone at work and thought I'd start listening to the game… WTF?! All I really needed to know was that it was the 3rd inning and Josh Tomlin was pitching.

Said upthread but the NY v STL World Series will be unwatchable, and it’s totally happening.
Yeah, but think about how great it will be to hear Bob Costas droning on about how historic of a match up it is...……..and Billy Crystal will tell us all about how when he was knee high to a grasshopper, he remembers listening to a Cards/Gashouse Gorillas World Series on his family RCA radio.............you can't buy that kind of nostalgia, it's all about the Gashouse Gorillas and their storied history from the time when Christ was in a crib, like any of us give two fucks about when every corn fed kid in America signed with the Gashouse Gorillas and how unfair things were until the 1960's, which is roughly when the Gashouse Gorillas fell off a cliff, only to be rescued by Heir Steinbrenner and his checkbook once MLB free agency started so the Gashouse Gorillas could begin buying World Series titles.

Mother of God do I hate that fucking franchise; if my hate were people, it would be China.

Was just tuning in and hoping for an exciting finish. So much for that. Oh well, at least no more stupid "Chop chant" going forward.

The one thing we have going for us is that the playoff matchup the networks secretly want almost never happens.

Actually we don't have that going for us because a Yankees Dodgers World Series is what they'd want. God dammit.

Of course. But I can't imagine rooting for a team because of their manager
The only teams playing after the season that I like are Oakland and Tampa. With all the others, I am looking for reasons to root for or against them. The manager is as good a reason as any. But I really like and respect Kevin Cash the most, so I'm rooting hardest for the Rays. It's not obvious to me, at this point, that the Astros have a better chance against NY than they do.

not to burst the bubble on that epic date tweet, but SB51 was on the 5th, not the 6th.

close enough.

I think Kevin Cash is great, but I hate the Rays. I'll obviously root for them if they play the Yankees, but I'd root for any NL team against them.

I don't see St. Louis beating either LA or Washington.
At this point for me it's who has the best shot of beating the Gashouse Gorillas; statistically, the Cardinals have the best bullpen, if LA or the Nationals advance, all I see is the Gashouse Gorillas wearing down the starter and feasting on tire fires of a bullpen.

For my overall sanity, it's best to chalk this shitshow of a season up and assume those assholes are going to win the World Series; that way, anything short of a nutshot game 7 loss for them will be ok with me.

It's the year of the Gashouse Gorillas.

Fuck my life.

My sanity works just opposite. I'm confident that the starters for the MFYs will be exposed and the bullpen will walk lots of guys. It's hard to just slug your way to a WS title. So I think they'll lose, probably in the ALCS, definitely in the WS.
And if not, I'll be bummed then, but I'll wait until then.

The inevitable Yankees march to the WS is at least somewhat tempered by the fact hay the Sox have won twice since the last time the Yankees won.

That said, if we get a Yanks-Cards World Series and then the Sox trade Mookie That would be pretty soul crushing.

Ok, I'm buying what you're selling.

If we all stick together, those assholes are doomed.
