Yeah they’re probably stuck with Backes for this year. What’s his buyout cap number after next year?
I think the B’s will pay him his $4m cash bonus on 7/1 and subsequently find a team to take him for a 2nd and buy him out. Won’t happen this weekend

Jayden Struble to Montreal. Good for him to go that high in the round, but I was hoping the B’s would have another crack at him.

Think with NJ trading for Subban they are telling Taylor Hall they plan to contend. Hall more likely too re-sign there. Question is, at what number?

B’s take Quinn Olson, LW
He played in the Alberta Junior League and is headed to Minnesota-Duluth. Ranked 105 among NA skaters by Central Scouting, having jumped up about 50 spots from mid season. Others hadn’t ranked him so highly but the league is a factor there I’m sure.

He’s 5’11” 170 and put up 20-46-66 in 54 games.

He will be well coached at Duluth so that’s a positive.

Ugh fuck off Vancouver, Tampa rewarded for needing a bailout
How does JT Miller fetch more than PK Subban? Not like Miller is on some fantastic contract, if he was on the open market would he get more than the 4/5.25 he has left? Maybe one extra year but don't see him getting more $$.

Kirk Luedeke has some stuff up on his blog regarding the B’s draft.

Beecher:

Olson, Mantykivi, Bychkov, Schmaltz

Pretty good take, he knows these guys pretty well but admits early he’s not as familiar with the 2 European players. He kinda gives the draft class a “meh.” He notes that they took 5 guys that don’t need to be signed for a while because they may fear a contract crunch with draft picks and college UDFA’s from 2014-2017 hitting the organization now. He may be on to something there, they haven’t really dipped their toes into the CHL at the draft since 2015, and haven’t drafted a player out of the CHL since 2017. Studnicka was the last high pick they spent on a CHL player. CHL kids need to be signed in 2 years or you lose them (B’s lost Pare and Bukac this year), college and European kids you get more time on. Interesting theory.

Anyways, Development camp is coming this week. Scott Bradley though they would have the whole draft class in town with the possible exception of Roman Bychkov.
