That passing attempt stat is kind of misleading because it omits playoff stats. Brady is number one if include his nearly 1600 (!) passing attempts in the playoffs.

This is old, but after 8 weeks (SB Nation):

The final number through eight weeks is 121, after Steelers kicker Chris Boswell missed a 54-yard field goal Monday night against the Dolphins. It's the most missed kicks after 8 weeks in the past 25 years. Previous mark was 109 (2001 and 2017).

In particular, field goal percentage across the league has dipped. NFL kickers have made 80.3 percent of their three-point tries, the lowest since a 79.2 percent mark in 2003.

When you just look at the numbers from Weeks 1-8 of the season, it’s worse. The last time kickers have had a field goal percentage less than 80.3 through the first eight weeks was in 2002, according to Pro Football Reference.

The Falcons probably would have had two additional shots at the end zone if they'd run up and spiked one time instead of using their timeouts early. Once it gets to under 10-12 seconds with no timeouts, it's hard to run a decent play because there's a good chance you'll get stopped in bounds and end up with nothing. It's always best to do whatever you can to keep that last timeout.

The cradle of the game.

It has been proven that game management is not a strong suit of Quinn cough28-3cough

It's amazing to me how many completely idiotic special teams plays there are in an average game these days. Patriots fans are so lucky to have a team that emphasizes the importance of special teams play.

From Lombardis book ( I have it in kindle app)

“Belichick’s special teams’ genius. Before making his name as a defensive coordinator with the two-time Super Bowl champion New York Giants, Belichick spent several years in the league as a special teams coach. For Belichick, working on special teams was never a dues-paying grind. In fact, his affinity for that part of the game was instilled by the greatest influence of his life: his father, Steve, a renowned scout and coach and an associate professor at the Naval Academy.”

With three timeouts they could have conceivably gotten the ball back after a turnover. Instead they use their timeouts to save about five to seven seconds each.
