Yeah, if they're ruling he fumbled it before crossing the goal line, that would make it a touchback. It's either that, he stepped out, or a touchdown, and the ref saying he fumbled means it should be a touchback.
I thought it was out, didnt see a great look. I don’t care about these teams or bet on the game so I don’t think I’m biased. It’s close, imo.

The Jaguars picked Blake Bortles over Khalil Mack and Aaron Donald. The Bills chose Sammy Watkins instead of those two. The 2014 Draft was crazy.

Is this the David Patten rule?

Even if Kupp started fumbling before stepping out. If he is out of bounds and then touches the ball, then the ball is automatically out of bounds?

I know it was probably said upthread multiple times but holy hell is Lamar Jackson an amazing athlete. That run today was even more impressive than last week. The defense didn't breakdown. He broke them.

Chicago's offense is just so, so bad. A huge part of it is Nagy, his playcalling sucks and it seems to minimize the few things that Trubisky can do well. Trubisky is a very limited QB who clearly can't play the style that Nagy desires to play. Most of the blame falls on Nagy, you have to be able to build a playbook around what your QB does well as opposed to forcing a square peg into a round hole. The defense is really good but they could only force so many punts before LA was going to put up some points. Just a dreadful offensive performance.

It must be seriously difficult to be an accomplished coach in the NFL. There are just so many bad coaches, it's almost baffling. Kitchens, Nagy, Fangio, Gase, Shurmer, Marrone, Patricia, Bill OBrien, they all suck. That's 25% of the league.

I'd take exception with O'Brien, he's gotten to the playoffs 3 years out of 4 (about to be 4 out of 5), two of them with Hoyer and Brock fucking Osweiler under center, and the remainder with DeShaun "Loose Cannon" Watson throwing it to everybody that has two arms. Losing to the corpse of Andrew Luck last year was a bit of a surprise but I'd say O'Brien has outperformed median expectations with the roster he's got and what limitations he's had (e.g. only a healthy JJ Watt 2/4 years, and a shell of himself this year).

I'd quibble with a few of the others, too. I mean, Patricia beat the Patriots last year (question his consistency, if anything), Marrone was one good drive away from putting the stake in the heart of the 2017 Patriots, etc. "inconsistent" is probably a lot more fair than "suck". The "clearly suck to anyone actually watching" list is way shorter than 8. There is, however, a lot of mediocrity and inconsistency, and the truly exceptional coaches are well known and almost never hit the market.

Some of these guys are bad, but I don’t know about all of them. Coaches take a lot of blame for shitty GMs and organizations. I notice you don’t mention Garrett. Imagine that guy trying to coach a bad roster. The Cowboys are loaded. Marrone had his team up against the Pats in the AFC finals with Blake Bortles. BOB wins a lot of games. I kind of think he sucks, though. Fangio-Elways sucks, that I know. Fangio has Flacco.

it’s hard to evaluate

Tyreek limping off clutching his hammie (quad?) pleases me.
Seems I've seen him "injured" in a bunch of games and then apparently fine 10 seconds later. So I wouldn't be surprised if he's right back out there. I think he has a little of the Big Ben drama queen in him.

John Parry is so useless. 99% of the time he just restates exactly what the ref had just said.

Man, that field looks like it's in terrible condition. Hoping we don't see any horrendous injuries....

It’s going to be sad day when Rivers goes into the HOF. Good QB with inflated stats in a pass happy era. Racks up yards playing catch up thanks to the all too frequent dumb mistakes he made.

At the beginning of the game, ESPN showed footage of them recently replacing the turf, and installing new drainage systems etc underneath it. They also said they hadn’t played soccer or had any concerts on it the last couple weeks.

I didn’t catch all of that piece, so I may have missed something.

from what comments I've read from turf-management people, the type of grass you'd grow and the way you'd prepare the soil for a game is just way different between the NFL / american football and most other field sports. The players are of course huge, and are putting much, MUCH more force into the ground here than any other sport, so your basic perennial ryegrass isn't going to cut it.

You still see the same happen in the London games at Wembley, where the FA basically couldn't care less if some NFLers aren't pleased by the surface.
