Erickson is not being thrown to in Cincinnati. He's had 11 catches for 109 yards on 15 targets in 6 games.
Yeah I don't get it. It's not like the Bengals haven't needed receiver help during Erickson's tenure in Cincinnati. He's played 54 career games and has 527 total receiving yards. He's not especially young, either (turns 27 in a couple weeks). He does have extensive PR/KR experience if they wanted to give themselves more options there.

Yes, but not all the way. It was a catchable ball.
I just watched it again. Beasley did turn pretty early. It was really a heck of a play by a DE to break it up. It would have been an absolutely ridiculous play to pick it. Bennett falling down made it look a lot worse / riskier than it should have been.

According to Miguel on Twitter, trading Bennett by Tuesday would save them about $2.6M and give them almost $5.5M in cap space. They would need about $5.4M to take on Sanders pro-rated salary by the trade deadline (so they would need additional room if they made a move this week). It’s pretty tight so think there would need to be another move/extension first (this assumes they even want to and/or can trade Bennett).

I seem to recall that Miguel’s standard is that a team needs about $1.5-2M to cover things that crop up over the last few weeks of a season.
So after any trades, they would need to make sure that had a pathway to opening up that much post-trade.
(IOW, although they can blow all the mind cap space to make a trade work on 10/28, they would need to open up more room after the trade to make it thru the season.)

Well clearly BB insisted to Bengals ownership that if he’s going to exchange 5th round picks, the least they can do is showcase the merchandise. Get it done, Theo.

Clowney has done squat and the Seattle pass rush has generally been abysmal for a ‘contender.’ They’ve got nearly $10M in cap space. Probably wish-casting but Bennett reuniting with Carroll seems like a reasonable hope

So a Devin (or Kyle) restructure is the really best bet to free up some room? Can’t see it happening with Hi just bases on injury history.

For Devin, he’s still playing at a ridiculously high level and his brother is there, pretty good reasons to stick around.

Edit: Kyle, duh

For those calling for Erickson. 8 catches for 137 yards on 14 targets today.
Even if the performance has upped the price tag, I trust Evan Lazar when he says Erickson fits the Pats scheme & need better than Green.

Bengals have rejected trade offers for the WR but that was 7 losses ago:

Not too many knew of Burkhead (a former Bengal) before BB got him. Could it be a repeat success story?

How was that a blunder? Good chance PIT would have matched any reasonable offer.
I think Pittsburgh had very limited cap space. The Patriots could have structured the contract or had a poison pill that would have made it impossible for Piitsburgh to match.

Pitt probably shouldn't have matched. They lost him the next off-season anyway.
Would have received the Pats 3rd round pick.

Too bad, he would've been perfect. I'd easily give a 2nd for Howard.

A report by the MMQB's Albert Breer Monday morning stated that New England inquired about Tampa Bay Buccaneers tight end O.J. Howard, but were told he's not available for trade.

"The Patriots' decision to bring Benjamin Watson back after Matt LaCosse went to IR only further illustrates the team’s problems at Rob Gronkowski’s old spot," Breer wrote. "Eight days until the trade deadline. New England already asked, and was told no on, Buccaneers tight end OJ Howard. I’d expect they’ll be turning over rocks this week at the position."

I think poison pill had been removed by then, no?
no, we gave him an offer sheet after PIT had given him an original-round tender, and made it hard for PIT to match (IIRC, matching was irrational for them, for some reason or another), but we could have upped it even more and made it impossible for PIT to match. Just about anything would've made a difference for us in 2013. BB bet that they wouldn't match, and he was wrong, and he probably regrets not offering more in retrospect. So I'd say it was an error, but it's hard to blame him for PIT irrationally matching.

Using Bill Belichick (or he using himself) as a litmus test is a bad idea because he is so good.

"I can do this cause they would be crazy to match. I certainly wouldnt."

Was it known/expected that Wallace would go to Miami as a FA? That opened up a starting spot for Sanders and perhaps BB wasn't expecting that.

Gotta admit that the later trade deadline seems like a real benefit to the league. Have to think that assets for players that are leaving anyway is also great for parity.

I think it will be the opposite, especially short term. Teams will sell off more so by the end of the season there will some really bad teams.

Could Evan Engram be available? SNY writer Ralph Vacchiano seems to think there may be a chance. He wasn't drafted by Gettelman. I think he could be very useful in the Patriots system.

What would he cost though? He's 25 with one more cheap year on his rookie deal. If Sanu is worth a 2nd, I think he's gotta cost more.

Would you give up our first for him?

Sanu has been much more productive than Engram. Heck, a much better player in Sanders went for a 3rd and change. Engram is younger and cheaper, but Gettelman is not tied to Engram because he didn't pick him and they are not close to contending. It depends how motivated Gettelman is to deal off parts. I think a 3rd would be a competitive offer for him.

No way I give up a #1 for Engram. Nice receiver but doesn’t block and gets hurt too much. Doubt a 3 gets it done but I’d definitely take him at that price. Problem is so would a bunch of other teams and our 3 would obviously be valued the lowest.

Over the last three years, Sanu has 166 catches for 1854 yards and 10 TDs in 37 games. Sanders has 148 catches for 1790 yards and 8 TDs in 31 games. Engram has 143 receptions for 1678 yards and 11 YDs in 32 games as a TE, and also just turned 25 and is on by far the cheapest deal of three players.

Engram, from my somewhat limited knowledge isn’t a blocker. It’s not that he wouldn’t have a limited role on the team but he probably wouldn’t be a focal point. I’d pass on him. Don’t think he’s a good fit. I’d rather have a type like Dwayne Allen, someone who can block and be a seam buster.
