Honestly, it would have been good if someone had posted the full quote at the beginning.

"He's really good at that fake, Lamar Jackson, but when you consider his dark skin color with a dark football with a dark uniform, you could not see that thing," Ryan said on air. "I mean you literally could not see when he was in and out of the mesh point."

I don’t think Jimmy the Greek’s were either, when he explained that African-American athletes were physically superior to whites because of breeding (no inter-breeding I guess) all the way back to the slave era. He even went into their stronger muscular development in the behind area, don’t know what else. He was wrongfully discharged, IMO, in 1988. I hope nothing further happens to Ryan.
You don't think that lamenting blacks would take over the coaching world is a little racist?

I remember thinking that Jimmy the Greek's comments were bad but more ignorant than anything else. And the fact that he said it all with such certainty when the scholarship was (and is), shall we say, very questionable at best, that puts it well above an offhand comment about Jackson hiding a brown-colored ball.

So a generic "he's really good at that fake" followed by "but when you consider......" I agree with the poster that this doesn't necessarily mean Ryan is a racist (he could be, like 99% of the people that "talk" about sport, just be a moron), but there's a fuckton more reasons beyond camouflage why "that fake" works, and Ryan failed to mention *any* of them.

And even out of not-malicious ignorance, a comment that is insulting to so, so many people can't be ignored.

People need to realize to never, ever mention skin color. Period. And when it comes to sports? Forget about it. Mentioning it without a 3 paragraph introductory caveat implies racism.

It's why I'm beyond perturbed Dusty Baker - the self hating black man - got to continue coaching after his blatantly racist comments over 15 years ago.

"We were brought over here for the heat, right? Isn't that history? Weren't we brought over because we could take the heat?"

"Your skin color is more conducive to heat than it is to the lighter-skinned people. I don't see brothers running around burnt," Baker said before the Cubs beat St. Louis at Wrigley. "That's a fact. I'm not making this up. I'm not seeing some brothers walking around with some white stuff on their ears and noses."
Look, if you want to take the comments as him saying hes exclusively good at PA because of his skin color...get riled up. That's your right. But a guy saying, "the extra split second he gets from the confusion gives an athlete of his caliber an advantage"? Who cares? I mean, Richard Sherman - the guy who was on the field against Jackson - literally agreed, "yeah, it made it harder to see the ball."

People are looking for easier and easier definitions of complicated issues like racism. Nobody wants to apply context. There was no malicious intent by the statement, it doesnt set anyone back or provide ammo to racists, and according to other black players on the field *gasp* it was accurate. They did think it contributes to his excellence out of playaction.

Sorry. Hope I didnt make you hold your pitchforks too long before proceeding with your mob.

Question for you...If you have never heard or seen a racist comment or action, how do you know when racism has occurred? You are the one that seems all riled up about this. I haven't seen much outrage that this guy needs to get fired and blackballed. Most of the "outrage" is that this is a very questionable statement and he has to know better and do better. There is no mob, you created that.

It is pathetic that you use this case as an example as to why you are "beyond perturbed" (really? The fuck out of here that you actually care) that a black man once said something somewhat equivalent and still has a job.

Both you creating this fictitious mob and having to relegate the Dusty example shows me something that we have all seen become clear the last few years. People certainly are scared that the white majority is losing power.

Not sure if serious?

Who said I've never seen or heard a racist comment? What are you talking about?

I thought it was pretty clear that I was highlighting that Dustys comments were a nothing burger, and these comments are too. And that maybe people - black or white - pointing out uncomfortable truths or hypotheses doesnt mean we should simply jump to anger and vitriol. Kind of like how you made my point for me. Your desire to see racist boogeymen may be clouding your judgement or sarcasm meter here. I mean, I'm super duper scared of "losing power"...whatever power I have left after my wife, kids, and employee take their share from me, that is.

That's why black forearms matter. Because I need my white majority power...

Alrighty then, how about this: it's not your imagination ... kickers are stinking up the joint this year

https://www.reviewjournal.com/sports/sports-columns/greg-bedard/nfl-kickers-are-struggling-but-is-there-a-crisis-1907958/
It couldn't be anyone's imagination. If you watch Red Zone, you see a lot of missed kicks. It's been so weird. But kind of awesome, too. Most of these guys are insane, excluding the studs like Tucker, who just sings his way through his kicks and would hit every kick from 65 if he could.

what the fuck

I believe he said that whites would be relegated to coaching only.
Which would be bad enough, but no, he said far worse.

https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1988-01-17-sp-36803-story.html

In the interview, Snyder, whose remarks were termed “reprehensible” by CBS, said that the only sports realm in which whites now dominate is coaching, and if blacks “take coaching, as I think everyone wants them to, there is not going to be anything left for the white people.”
Sounds like lamenting to me.

Maybe they should wear white shoes so they can make sure they’re contacting the ball at the proper point and angle.
Only works if they get the laces fully out.

Did the league change rules for prepping K balls? Harder ? Softer?

My google only reveals K ball articles from years ago.

When I think of a good example of institutional racism, the one that really resonates with me, I remember the color of bandages. The first black/dark-brown bandage brand was created in the late 1990s. “Flesh-colored bandages” were white. “Nearly invisible” if aren’t black, brown, yellow, red. If the darker uniform helps hide footballs and we think of flesh colored bandages as camouflage then wouldn’t that also apply to Lamar? But here’s the thing. Even if it is true 1) so what? And 2) it might help him hide it 0.05% better, jack shit in the grand scheme of things. He hides the ball well because he buries it in his backs gut technically very well and holds it in there long. Because he’s a freak he can use his athleticism to wait as long as possible for a defensive player to react that then lets him know the right move. No need to explain this we all saw the first 3 drive guttings.

The argument reminds me of the time when I went paint balling with 20-30 friends and family. We went up against a bunch of former seals (that’s what they claimed). No joke. We still talk about it to this day. They used the same guns we did (they also had their own sweet custom guns but they were auto vs our rentals were pumps so they didn’t use them) but had their own custom camouflage while we rented ours. We outnumbered their group 4-1. They slaughtered us every match. Did their super awesome custom camouflage help? Yes. Maybe gave them an extra 0.05% boost. They kicked our asses because of who they were not what how good their camo was.

I disagree that we even need to mention such a trivial advantage. I wouldn’t have mentioned it because even if it is true it isn’t that big a factor compared to his natural athletic talents and decision making. I think the announcer should not have said what he did because it gives too much importance to a slightly greater than trivial advantage.

It’s a shame to me that someone would want to take away from what should be his first of maybe multiple MVP seasons.

I learned about K balls during Deflategate when it turned out—in addition to the Kensil clusterfuck—that some dude working for the league had pilfered the K balls in the AFCCG and sold them on eBay or whatever.

Good system they have there. Thoughtful process. Tight controls.

So saying Brady was successful because he's white is legitimate sports commentary then?
If I say Slater is a great ST guy bc his dad played in the NFL, he’s worked his ass off, he’s intelligent, BB values his contributions, etc are you going to cherry pick and say I believe he’s only successful bc if his daddy?

Is this a straw or something? Is the Brady benefits from being white argument legit or no?

Well in this hypothetical you would need a reason to suggest why Brady benefits from being white that people could debate. So in its current form, it is not.

Fine, how about it's harder for safeties to tell where Brady is looking because his skin color is closer to his eye color.

Guys, Suggs poured bleach on a woman and their 1-year old son and dragged her from a moving vehicle as well as repeatedly punched her in the face and stomach. I would never root for the Patriots again if they so much as sniffed around him. At least with AB there's the possibility the rape charge is false.

Using Tyreek Hill as precedent, we can assume that he'll get no suspension and maybe a fine. Seems worth it to me.

Edelman was accused of groping a woman under her skirt. Patriots brought on James Harrison after he allegedly kicked down the door, broke his girlfriend's phone, and slapped her in the face. We didnt know it, but Hernandez was literally a serial killer.

It's the NFL. In for a penny, in for a pound.

(With that said, of course Suggs is a piece of shit. Wouldnt want him either.)

Jenkins cut after calling a fan “retard” and refusing to apologize.

I did not know about the Edelman or Harrison incidents.

We have some real pieces of shit in the NFL and a guy got cut for calling a fan a retard; that is so 2019.

That’s a good point. Like I don’t want to excise Jenkins, especially when he refuses to apologize, but breaking your kids arm is worse than using a word that does not have a very long history of being derogatory. Still, good on the Giants.
