Can he play Thursday, get traded on Friday to a new team which plays Sunday or Monday, and play in a 2nd game in the same NFL week?
Damon Harrison played 17 games in 2018 after being traded before the Giants bye but after the Lions bye. Different scenario, but a possible path forward to the 18 game season we all want.

The toilet.
Reading that the Cowboys just cut Taco Charlton. Is he an upgrade on Wise? I don't know anything about his play or if he'd be an improvement (though Wise seems to be out of favor at the moment), but I do like the idea of Boston sports teams cornering the market on taco-named athletes. Taco Town: Trademark that, Lebron!

Two Tac(k)o Tuesdays? Someone patent that before LeBron

I was wondering the same thing. I can't find a good link, but the word on the internets is no. Apparently Percy Harvin was traded in a similar situation a few years ago, going from the Seahawks to the Jets. The Seahawks played on a Thursday and he was not eligible to play for the Jets that Sunday. Apparently players can only play in 1 game per week.

Did he receive an extra paycheck? If yes, how did that work with the salary cap?

That whole, league-mandated, play Sunday, play again Thursday thing notwithstanding......
The league has its own week, I'm sure. Sort of like how the House of Lords could have Wednesday last multiple days.

What I am saying is that the NFL is basically a gaggle of inbred monarchists.

No way BB:
1. Trades away those valuable assets
2. For a player who wants a top end extension
3. And is a loud-mouth front-runner.

What the hell is a loud-mouth front-runner? A 7 million hit this year and 13.5 next year for a top 3-5 CB is a great contract.
BB isn’t completely averse to strutting peacocks. I’m just skeptical of his ability to to get with the program.

He plays focused when things are going well but is quick to throttle down and start pointing fingers when adversity hits. Like complaining about and openly questioning coaches.

Basically he’s the anti-Patriot. Of course so was AB, so...

Edit: Part of the problem in JAX was there unwillingness to give him a new contract.

A contract that he deserved. He wants to win. He doesn't see that in Jax. He came out today in full support of his coach. It's Coughlin he has a problem with. Might be contractually related, but he played his ass off last night under pretty hard circumstances.

Also, if he ended up complaining about the coaching or winning here everyone would think he's nuts.

How would 17 game seasons even work from a scheduling standpoint? Some teams would have 9 home games and others 8? Everyone plays a neutral site game?

The current schedule works so well.

6 games vs Division
3 games vs teams in conference with same division standing from prior year
3 games vs teams in AFC division (excluding division winner)
4 games vs NFC

Move to 17 and it throws it all off. How are they selecting that 17th game?

Per Yahoo's report, each team gets a neutral site game--think London, Mexico City, Toronto, Berlin, etc.

17 games is sooooo stupid. 16 is a PERFECT schedule. Easy to manage with the 8 divisions. Good playoff setup. Simple, straightforward, no fuss. As always, trying to squeeze out a few more bucks means messing with something that's already pretty perfect.

Wrong, people want MOAR FOOTBALL.

It was the same mistake the NFL made with TNF. They had a good thing going with a few late season TNF games after Thanksgiving, and a couple Saturdays too. Primarily because they were good matchups. By forcing games into every Thursday, they created a bunch of stinkers.

While I'm not excited on the players' health aspect of the proposal, having lots of neutral site games around the country and/or around the globe isn't a bad way of spreading the NFL gospel. And it's not *that* difficult to tweak the scheduling formula to add an extra game in a relatively balanced way - e.g.: schedule one more inter-conference game against a team that finished in the same place in its division as you did in yours (so, e.g., maybe this year the Pats would have played last year's winner in the NFC North or South or West in addition to everyone in the NFC East). As long as they also cull at least one exhibition game - and possibly two - from the schedule, I'd be OK with this. Because I do actually like football, and wouldn't mind seeing the season start up a week earlier...or better yet, end a week later.

Isn't it more likely that it stays the same, but the regular season just starts a week earlier (Labor Day weekend)?
I think the idea of Presidents' Day would be to have a built-in day off after the Super Bowl, since that Monday is undoubtedly one of the least productive work days of the year

Does this mean Super Bowl Sunday on President's Day weekend is in play?
I've written posts on this before...

The Daytona 500 is the Sunday of President's Day weekend. Several years ago NASCAR moved it to another weekend in Feb and, although I've never seen this anywhere, I am sure it was due in part to secret negotiations with the NFL. This was when talk of the 18 game schedule started up.

NASCAR has since moved the race back to the holiday weekend, so it would have to move again to accommodate the Super Bowl. Yes, the Super Bowl is much, much bigger, but I can't see the NFL muscling in on NASCAR's biggest day like that.

All 17 teams play prior year NCAA champion.
Same schedule set-up as now, but one other game where a team gets to pick an opponent (in the NFL). Team with worst record last year picks first. Then team stil remaining with worst record picks its opponent. Last two teams left are stuck with each other. Selection is around draft time, so teams can't know how good a chosen opponent will be when they play them. There wouldn't be a set "picked opponent week." It would just be another game in the 17 for the schedule-makers to deal with. (I'm sure there are at least 142 reasons why this doesn't work; but, hey, the NFL rarely takes that into consideration when it does something.)

Can't work. Because the worst team from last year would likely pick the second worse team from last year. So that team wouldn't get to pick. And so on and so forth. Half the teams in the league wouldn't get to pick opponent, and of those 16 teams, 8 of them would likely be in the bottom 16 of the previous year's standings.
