Gotta say, I’m pretty happy that an impact defender didn’t wind up with the Ravens, Colts or Browns. Best possible scenario, given the relatively tight salary cap situation in N.E.
True, but it sucks to not get him at the price that Carolina got him for. Could be a steal. No idea why those other teams wouldn’t beat that, especially Indy.

Texans fire it’s GM and now former character coach Jack Easterby is going to take on a larger role.

Patriots will say no again. So quit asking.
I'm not sure they can say no this time. They said no last time because they Patriots were still in the playoffs. In the offseason, I don't think permission is needed if the job is a promotion.

Nick C just put on a shiny new ring. I'm guessing that the Pats won't be outbid for his services. He has, by all accounts, a great working relationship with BB/team. Why would he leave that for Texas?

Because people want more responsibility, or a chance to run the organization, or a 100 other reasons.

People leave the Patriots all the time.

He basically runs the patriots and has a ton of responsibility. He has more authority than pioli ever did.

I don't know why you say this. Pioli was given the title Vice President of Player Personnel; Caserio is the Director of Player Personnel (a title Pioli held for only one season before being promoted to VP).

Caserio and McDaniels were college teammates, so there's a natural pairing there if McD is the heir as assumed. OTOH, Jerry Schuplinski was a teammate too and he just jumped ship.
What is going on at that small Jesuit college that Belichick is mining for talent?

How the fuck did I not hear about any of this?

Winslow Jr. trial: Mistrial on other rape charges

A California judge declared a mistrial Tuesday on the eight remaining charges against former NFL player Kellen Winslow Jr. after a jury convicted him of raping a 58-year-old homeless woman but could not break a deadlock over two counts of rape involving a 54-year-old hitchhiker and an unconscious teen.

Am I the only one who thinks the Bears are couldn't be handling their kicking situation worse? It's like they're actively trying to ingrain choking on kicks into the team's identity.

The Bears waived kicker Chris Blewitt on Wednesday after all three kickers who participated in Tuesday's mandatory minicamp practice missed their respective 42-yard field goal attempts in front of the entire team and approximately 25 Bears alumni who had gathered at the team facility to watch the workout.

Ugh that turned my stomach just reading it. What do they even use for that, morphine?

Fentanyl, ketamine and others. Bad deal for that young man, haven't seen too many stories these days of field amputations.

Typically it involves a trauma surgeon being sent to the scene by life flight or intercept, after direct conversations with medical control(it's not a frequent skillset in the scope of paramedics so if they did it, other choices were incompatible with life preservation). Can't imagine what that crash looked like with an F250, lucky from the sounds that he and the other driver survived.

So would it be to get him out of the car or to prevent sepsis or something?

Also, can they reattach it? I’d think no, but my dad’s out there doing dick transplants so who knows?

I've only heard locally of one such case and it involved nearly full amputation by mechanism of the accident and the limb was destroyed. It's truly a worst case scenario where no other life sustaining choices could be made. I'd bet most paramedics go their entire 30 year careers without doing this or seeing it done. Shows how severe the mechanism of injury was, and how lucky he was to survive.

A paramedic is not likely doing a removal in a case where the limb can be reattached, it's been destroyed and tourniquets have failed and it's removal is required for patients extraction from the scene.

Can't imagine what this young man and his family will go through now, but he has the opportunity to go through it and continue to live which is a blessing.

So you’re saying they probably had to remove the limb and cauterize the wound so he wouldn’t bleed out?

I'm saying it's extremely uncommon, and all other means of patient removal from the vehicle were apparently not an option.

Or at least that was my intent.

Bad week for professional sports, one of those that makes you appreciate how close the line is at all times. Truly feel for this young man, looks like he was fighting just to make the team.

not only is he active, he's on the feature table on ESPN right now, pushing people around with the big stack.
I saw him get as high as 11th place earlier today, which is damn impressive this late in the tournament.

Unfortunately, he finally went out in 131st place for a $59,295 pay day (minus the $10k buy in).

Breaking: NFL owners looking for more revenue, without having to increase expenses by paying players for increased schedule.

As a fan this is an AWFUL policy. It might also just be a ploy so they settle on 18 games and 2 preseason as a "middle" ground.

I mean...I have to imagine every coach is going to sit as many impact players as possible on their Thursday game right? Or their international game if they have one. Especially if it happens later in the season

Nothing will tell the Brits that American Football is great like the second stringers from the Raiders and Jags fighting it out as Fournette, Ramsey, and Antonio Brown all sit at home for a nice week or two off.

Nutty proposal.

Seems like you could really influence playoff seeding. For example, looking at this years schedule, would it be the worst idea to sit our stars against the Browns and Bengals? But then think about how that impacts the Steelers record? Also, consider strength of schedule where one team had to face the Patriots with Brady and another team had to face the Patriots with Hoyer.

Most likely, you stagger your starters to sit across four games, hopefully your schedule lines up so that you are facing four mediocre teams in the middle of the season. Nice spot to rest your players and gets it out of the way in case you have to make a push for the playoffs later in the season.

And they are expanding rosters to accommodate this? Fat chance. I'd love to know how to pull this off, particularly around the special teams specialists (not just the kickers, punters and long snappers), and areas like 4-3 linebackers, 3-4 DL, etc. that don't have a lot of bodies in the first place.

The owners like to throw out these kinds of proposals or invent contentious issues so that they can later “compromise” by backing off the nutty ideas in exchange for a favorable deal on revenue distribution.

Seems like they are doing whatever they can do drive the 18 game stake in the ground so they can negotiate to a middle ground 17 game / two bye schedule in the new CBA.

That seems like the easy compromise and allows tons of room for neutral site games overseas or in new domestic markets while avoiding the lost home games that are so unpopular with season ticket holders.

You wouldn't just need a backup QB to play 2 games. You would be forced to have a second backup QB activated for the games started by the backup. Where would the backup kicker, punter, long snapper, and so forth come from?

To Harry's question, I think the speculation is that certain specialty positions would be exempted (QB, punter, kicker, long-snapper, holder?).

More generally, is the idea to drop 2 preseason games in favor of these? Or are there still 4 preseason games and then 2 more games? If the new regular season games replace 2 preseason games, then I can't imagine the difference in in-stadium revenues between preseason games 3 and 4 to regular season games 1 and 2 is meaningful. But I suspect this is about having a package of 30 additional games to sell to someone. I'm sure Hulu and others would kill to show a game a week exclusively.

Edit - my questions were answered in part by this quote from an article by Darren Rovell, which I won't link to because fuck him:

“What we do know is our current preseason is not a good product,” Murphy said. “Our players don’t need four games and it seems like fewer starters are playing in them. Maybe another way to do this is to add one neutral site game and one international one for every team, so we can use this to grow the game.”

Having more substantive games could also increase rights fees. Preseason games are, for the most part, broadcast locally. If two more games actually counted, under current rates, ESPN, Fox, CBS and NBC would pay approximate $500 million more per year combined.
