Belichick hinted at who the Patriots would take during his pre-draft news conference.

“This is another year where there’s a lot of big receivers — 6-4, 225, 230, whatever they are — I mean, somebody’s going to have to cover those guys one of these days,” Belichick said.

Did they have trouble with those kinds of players last year? Because the whole defensive backfield is returning.
Given the pattern of Belichick's drafts over the last 20 years, I'd say he's working on getting ahead of future trends and future needs in drafts, and will probably fill this year's needs via free agency.

(I think Sony Michel last year basically wasn't a -need-, but became a starter ahead of schedule, thanks to Jeremy Hill/Rex Burkhead's injury and never relinquished the job afterwards.)

For all the people saying CB isn't a need right now, Bedard had this to say leading up to the draft. Interesting point re: Gilmore's 2020 cap number:
Cap number isn't important. He's due about $11M in new money. Very likely worth it.

Is Bedard even worth quoting at this point? What would they do with Gilmore? Trade him? He has $15M in dead cap space if cut. He’s a top CB and they have rookies to even out cap space in the defensive backfield once the McCourtys are gone after this year if that happens.

I’m sorry but I don’t understand anyone that hears a pick and immediately hates it. What do you know about the player? Frankly, none of us even know what the team actually needs.

I didn’t like Michel last year on the principle of taking an early RB, but besides that I guess I have been indoctrinated. It’s a passing league I’ll take as many CBs as I can get.

He was right about Williams. And about the Pats taking a receiver in the first round. Seems to have some good sources, which makes him worth listening to. If you want to disregard him, be my guest.

Some people just think negative instinctively. If any organization in the world has earned the benefit of the doubt as to their decision making and outcomes you’d think it would be the Patriots by now.

Chiefs taking DK Metcalf would make some sense.

Edit: damn, wanted Hardman on the Pats

Actually they underpaid no? Draft value chart I see says they did—barely. But everyone in here is calling it overpay.

What’s the disconnect?
For me, the previous trades earlier in the round. 4th and 5ths to move up but Pats may have moved up more so if it shakes out chart wise, sounds good. Liked the pick

Could be just his appearances on Felger & Mazz that rub me the wrong way. I would’ve liked to hear how he proposes to play hardball with Gilmore

Having good sources and not understanding enough about the salary cap to know why Gilmore's contract is not a burden are not mutually exclusive.

Can you imagine how many heads would explode if on the running draft trackers, the Patriots pick at 64 suddenly was replaced by Arizona?

Every time they cut to the crowd I start to feel embarrassed that I’m watching and a fan of this...
And that’s not easy to do, because I’m a wrestling fan.

My cousin's sister's friend just saw Josh Rosen at the Hertz counter at Logan.
