Love the pick, don’t love the price to trade up. Would have figured the Pats could have gotten at least a late round pick back or a pick next year....

Moving the Line
Whos the best long snapper still on the board?
Said in jest surely, but the only viable guy I think that remotely gets picked this draft is Dan Godsil, Indiana. Nick Moore, Georgia probably will be a UDFA signing, and the guys I have beyond them are pretty fungible FCS guys I don't expect to sniff a camp, save for injuries and/or cap cutting measures, a la Arizona 2016. Should be said last year's class was much better, headlined by Tanner Carew and Hunter Bradley.

You can never have too many good DBs.

I’m not so hot on paying a third to move up and get him given the number of needs we have. But let’s see how the other picks shake out.
A very low 3rd. If there were no FA compensation, it would be a 4th (the 101st pick).

MIA trades down to 62. Gotta think that's the trade capital for Josh Rosen.
Miami picks up NO’s 2020 2nd round pick.

Love that. That’s a move made with the 2020 QB class in mind.

Hookay - didn't take long for a BB head scratcher. With all our needs, we have plenty of DBs
You can't have too many DB's. They're the pitchers of football. We grabbed the wrong one.

Seattle taking Marquise Blair in the 2nd is the head scratcher.

If you look at Arif Hasan's big board which averages over 60 other big board the NFL forecasters averaged him at 64. But corners and DBs are tricky. A guy might be #1 on one board and #8 on another. They worked him out twice, talked about the need to defend against bigger guys and could use a TE killer. Corners were flying off the board and Bill took a guy valued on average at 64 45th.

Like the player, don't like paying a reasonably high price to trade up for someone who doesn't address a need. I think Joejuan could make an immediate impact as rookie as a matchup guy, but they are pretty stacked at CB.

Seems like a need to defend big WR/TEs.

Reggie Wayne just say to the crowd he has a gun? Hanging around Marvin Harrison too much I guess

Man the secondary is LOADED. So many good players there.

I’m hoping like crazy that Irv Smith is around for pick 64. He’d be great for this team.

I'm glad the Vikings got Smith. I didn't want any part of him on the Pats and he seems like a much better fit on the Vikings.

It makes the secondary better and deeper in a passing league. Can’t complain about that. Plus JC Jackson is not an established player yet. Can’t just count on him repeating what he did last year. Competition is good.
No one is arguing Joejuan doesn't improve the position and offer something they don't currently have. It's just that it's the deepest group on the roster, so I don't love the pick at that spot.

For all the people saying CB isn't a need right now, Bedard had this to say leading up to the draft. Interesting point re: Gilmore's 2020 cap number:

Probably the player I’ve heard connected the most to the Patriots is Vandy cornerback JoeJuan Williams. He has rare height and length at the position. No, cornerback is not an immediate need, but Stephon Gilmore’s cap number will be about $19 million next season. That is not going to happen. Patriots love to give themselves options in those scenarios.
