Okay, then how about "follow' the draft in real time with a bunch of other fans. Because that still tops a movie that can be seen four days later
Shocking picks and mega trades are fun, for me, to follow in real time. Especially when the latter precede the former and you’re wondering who team X gave all that up for.
This is the no-spoilers thread, so it will not actually be real time, it will be a few minutes behind real time.

I mean you can also watch games the next day.
I am a fan of football, so I enjoy the uncertainty real-time. I am not a fan of reading names at a podium, which is what the draft is.

Pats with 12 picks. I'm expecting a few trades that won't effect the current year at all, like trading a 2019 4th for a 2020 3rd with no players moving at all. He's not taking 12 players, but he's got stock to do whatever he wants. Should be interesting.
4 / 12 picks are 7th rounders, so it's not that crazy. They're going to sign like 15 UDFAs as soon as the draft ends, so using the 7ths to get the pick of that litter makes some sense.

Patriots having one of the smallest boards is like tax day.
Yes, but in general, most teams have way smaller boards than people think. Dallas' has leaked three times and every time it was in the 120-150 pick range.

I feel like the TE need is so great, and the importance of a page setting TE in this offense so important, they will go up for one.
They were fine pre-2010 without a special TE. Obviously Gronk was a difference-maker, but they can't force a Gronk if there isn't one to be had.

And they won SB 51 without Gronk. Bennett was fine, but more like a regular TE than super-Gronk.

So yeah, I'd love for them to have an all-world TE. I'd rather they have an all-world TEAM, even if their TE position is lesser.

And given the way BB goes about things, while some teams might seek out the "next Gronk," he's probably thinking about the next way he wants to attack defenses

This is where I'm at. I'm intrigued that a bunch of their WR meetings were with "big slot" guys - A.J. Brown, N'Keal Harry, Jalen Hurd, Gary Jennings. That's something they've never had, and those guys make a lot of sense as a mismatch on the smaller Kyle-Arrington-type slot CBs.

In all honesty, the way they've morphed into a power running and play-action team, they're already zagging when the rest of the league is zigging. What's great about their offense now is that they can run very very well, and that reduces the pounding Brady takes (I just don't think they think he will hold up throwing 40+ times a game). But they know - unlike Baltimore with Jackson, for example - that when push comes to shove, if they need Brady to sling it for a quarter, he absolutely, positively can do that.

Of course, one key is that Gronk is such a great blocker, and not having him there reduces the running effectiveness. But in principle, they're already zagging.

Inject the draft into my veins.

I'm thinking they will take a bigger and smaller slot guys.
I’m thinking I like your thinking and wouldn’t that match what the draft offers to value where they pick?

Noah Fant is a fascinating prospect. I would guess he won’t block well enough for them. YMMV.

Unless they see him more as the "big slot" type and will draft a blocking tight end in the middle rounds

Sounds like there’s a pretty good chance the #Jets trade down. One team already under the impression the Jets have a deal worked out with another team if Q Williams is available at 3. Keep an eye on Buffalo (9). Jets could get edge rusher or OLM in trade down.

Funny you should mention that. I was thinking along these lines too like what if they see Fant as a weapon and also a big slot. I think it’s a creative idea. The counter argument from Michael Lombardi and SuperNomario was that their 1-2 worked because of Gronk and his blocking. You got a matchup with a LB in coverage because they could run on you. With Fant are they going to give you that matchup with his blocking skills?

Note: 4 and 10 are Pats-related.

1. The Jets have had action over the last 24 hours on the third overall pick, and it now looks like it may not be the Redskins coming up to get it.
2. If the Jets were to stay, or even trade down in the top 10, it’s worth watching the connection to Ed Oliver.
3. The connection between the Broncos and Drew Lock isn’t dying out. Word is that he’s rising continuously in draft meetings there. Maybe they’d take him at 10. Maybe they’d be looking more at going up to get him if slides to the bottom of the first round.
4. The Vikings may wind up getting calls on veteran players—perception out there is they may try to move a bigger contract after paying the quintet of Stefon Diggs, Adam Thielen, Eric Kendricks, Anthony Barr and Danielle Hunter. Keep an eye on tight end Kyle Rudolph. I wouldn’t be surprised in the slightest if New England inquired on him over the next 48 hours, if they don’t wind up taking a tight end high and the Vikings do. The Patriots have done their homework on Rudolph in the past, and he’d bring a proven commodity with actual experience in a program like theirs (having played at Notre Dame under Charlie Weis a decade ago). Minnesota’s corners, Xavier Rhodes and Trey Waynes, elicited trade calls earlier in the offseason. And a team could probably get Laquon Treadwell at a pretty cheap rate, at this point.
5. Two players on fifth-year options that have been part of trade discussions—Philly’s Nelson Agholor and San Francisco’s Arik Armstead. Both players could be had for a price. But neither will be given away, since each would be part of their team’s comp-pick equation in 2020.
6. If Montez Sweat starts to slide tonight, and gets past the Redskins at 15 and the Panthers at 16, and the Seahawks at 21, who stops his fall? I’d pay attention to the Rams at the bottom of the first round, who’ve quietly done the homework on pass-rushers, as the assumption grown they’ll look for an interior lineman at 31. I’ve heard they’re O.K. with Sweat medically.
7. Duke’s Daniel Jones remains as polarizing as they come. I had two execs call him in the best quarterback in the class today. I’ve had others say he is nothing more than a backup. But word is he’s in play for both the Redskins and the Giants. I wouldn’t rule out Josh Rosen for the Giants either, if he becomes available.
8. We’ve discussed the Falcons potentially coming up to No. 8 for a defensive player (Oliver, Christian Wilkins, Devin Bush), with Detroit happy to trade down. I’d keep an eye on 13 as another hot spot for a trade down – if two of the three top tackles (Jonah Williams, Andre Dillard, Jawaan Taylor) are gone, Miami could have action on the pick, with the Panthers, Vikings and Texans carrying needs at the position.
9. We’ve mentioned Devin White repeatedly as a potential cultural fit for what new Raiders GM Mike Mayock wants. Here’s another one that other teams have their eyes on for Oakland: Clemson DE Clelin Ferrell.
10. And I’ve linked Vanderbilt’s Joejuan Williams to the Patriots for a while now. Two other names that came up today for them, as fits, maybe tonight, maybe on Day 2: South Carolina WR Deebo Samuel and Kansas State OL Dalton Risner.

The draft is kind of like the Oscars for me. Every year I get really excited but then I lose steam 2 hours in.

All that said, I love it when the Pats pick is 32.

Following on amfox’s post for item 10, Bill talked about “who’s gonna be able to cover all these tall, strong receivers”? That guy had the build to do it.

Watching from west coast is another kind of experience -- won't be able to leave work until after the Top 10 or so (though will be following on the phone), but will get home in time for the last third, which works out well.

I am jetting to California RIGHT NOW and watching the draft and the Bruins on jet blue. Oh, and listening to the Patriots.com draft show.

Yes, me too. Because we have no idea how well any particular pick will do. We cringe at picks who go on to become pro bowlers and rejoice picks who we later lambaste week in and week out in game threads.

Nothing better than the Game on the TV, Draft on laptop and multitasking 3rd option on the phone. Add in some drinks and it really makes the entire experience...fly by.

Something to keep in mind hopefully he's there at 32.

What makes Mississippi State S Johnathan Abram special based on some of my calls? He showed up to his meeting in a sports coat because I’m told he approached the visit like a job interview. Married with a child at 21, he was inquiring about school system for daughter while here.

Why are there 100,000 people there? Man the NFL has done an amazing job of turning this into an event. I’m not a draft guy, if it’s a crap shoot for BB and company I don’t get investing any time in this, but I’m obviously in the vast, vast minority.

Of course, that's also one of the great party streets in the country

Remember when the NBA gave John Havlicek a pass to every NBA game for the rest of his life? I wonder if he and the lovely Beth ever used it.
