“Obviously, I’m very excited about this development and the possibility I’ll be able to chase my dream of making the major leagues,” Song said. “I’m very fortunate the timing worked out just right as far as my situation.”

According to MLB.com, the 137th overall pick of the draft is slotted to receive a $406,000 signing bonus. Song does not intend to renegotiate terms with the Red Sox now that his bargaining power may be enhanced.

“For me, it was never about the money. My goal is to play baseball at the highest level,” he said. “I’ve agreed with Boston on a contract and I’m a man of my word.”

I can’t help but wonder if the Red Sox trip to the White House helped pave the way for the policy change.

Noah signs for wayyyyy under slot for some reason ($100,000, which is $306,000 below slot!), so the top 10 picks have signed plus 13th rounder Blake Loubier for well over slot (presumably they really like him). My take but this seems like as close to a perfect draft as you could ask for given the Sox operating budget. Moves such as drafting underslot Cannon so we could then draft and sign the higher ranked Lugo. Throw in Zeferjahn, Song, etc - a great job by the organization

Not that this is a surprise, but local draftee Sebastian Keane from North Andover will not sign with the Sox, honoring his commitment to Northeastern.

He was a shot-in-dark pick in the 11th round who slid that far because of signability concerns (upper-round talent with a scholarship offer from NU, family was supposedly looking for a $1m signing bonus). Not enough money left in the available pool for the Sox to spend on him after signing their firmer targets.
