The Jets' classic uniform is just that - classic. White-and-single-color uniforms with simple motifs are great - Namath-era Jets, Colts, Red Wings, 70's-90's Maple Leafs, Tigers. This mess screams Division II.

The JETS have signed a young Aussie rugby league player called Valentine Holmes to the International Pathway Program.

https://www.smh.com.au/sport/nfl/valentine-holmes-joins-new-york-jets-in-nfl-20190409-p51c91.html

The NFL announced that Holmes and other elite athletes in the International Pathway Program have been allocated to teams in the AFC East division - the Jets, New England Patriots, Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins.

British rugby union speedster Christian Wade will join the Bills.

Brazilian judo champion Durval Neto was picked up by the Miami Dolphins and German tight end Jakob Johnson will go with the Super Bowl champion Patriots.

Pathway players become members of team's practice squads and will not be eligible to play games.

The program is designed to give elite athletes with little American football knowledge a chance to insert themselves with an NFL team and learn the game without the pressure of being cut.
Holmes was a bit of an emerging star for the Cronulla Sharks, who are quite JETS in profile. He was an outside back with great speed and power. He translates to be quite a similar player to Jared Hayne who briefly dabbled with the 49ers, though he earned a spot on the team and didn't come through the pathway program.

I look forward, sadly, to seeing him called a Rugby player incorrectly for the next three years.

Couldn't resist

Edit: in (somewhat) seriousness I don't really understand how Manish is employed. It's one thing to be Felger, or even Skip Bayless or whatever his name is that replaced him in that show with Screamin' A. But Manish just seems like a moron who stirs shit but doesn't have any kind of good reasoning behind it.

Fake edit: Max Kellerman

Fake edit 2: Stidham should clearly be #2 on the list behind Brady

Hope you guys don’t have any moderately outspoken players that you really enjoy watching play for the Jets.

Jarvis Landry and Jay Ajayi did not die for this.

Last week there were reports that Gase and Maccagnan and now he's fired. Gase definitely has the owner's ear.

Jets’ owner Christopher Johnson delivered the news today to GM Mike Maccagnan and VP of Player Personnel Brian Heimerdinger that he was letting them go.

To recap: Jets ownership was fine with Maccagnan picking a new coach, spending money on free agents, running the draft and picking players but not going forward with all of that?

People were pointing out in Twitter that in every photo of the Jets’ war room during the draft, Adam Gase was absolutely nowhere to be found, which is extremely odd.

Have to assume they weren’t seeing eye to eye on who/what to draft, and Gase bailed in protest.

MacCagnan was also a terrible GM. Like awful. His draft resume reads like a guy half drunk throwing darts to select his fantasy team.

You'd think that if Gase truly had concerns that deep about MacCagnan's draft plans, (A) he'd want to be there to do whatever he could to steer him in a better direction, since he's going to own the output, and (B) he'd try to get MacCagnan fired or sidelined just before the draft, or ensure that he himself had final say on picks, perhaps keep MacCagnan around to explain the scouting or prep.

Just not showing up is kinda drama queen-y. I hope he theatrically washed his hands in front of the owner, too.

One disagreement between Adam Gase and Mike Maccagnan/Christopher Johnson...

Gase absolutely did not want to sign Le’Veon Bell, per sources. In fact, he made it clear that he didn’t want to spend a lot of money on any running back.

While what Gase said makes sense, why wouldn't this be discussed before the hiring? Just shows you that there was not one united vision for what they wanted to do. Inept.

Rich Cimini: As I reported previously, CEO Christopher Johnson was so concerned about the Gase-Maccagnan dynamic that he started spending extra time in the building before the draft. It was that concerning. #Jets

I’m sure these leaks, accurate or not, will play well on Jets player twitter. Any comment from Bell yet?
Makes a lot of sense. Gase doesn’t use a workhorse back. He likes the RBBC approach and guys that are specialists. The dude struck gold with Kenyan Drake and went out and signed Frank Gore to steal his carries.

Yes... about Terry Rozier.

Keith Smith‏Verified account @KeithSmithNBA
Terry Rozier has made it pretty clear today he doesn't want to be back with the Celtics, especially if they run back a lot of the same roster. It's understandable, but it's not a great look to be this public about things. Just handle your business without all the statements.

Le'Veon Bell‏Verified account @LeVeonBell 4h4 hours ago
then as the media don’t ask the question cuz all he did was answer the question honestly..

Ian Rappaport and the rest of Twitter is dog walking Mehta now and it's another great Jets Day.

The Jets' plan, recapped:

1. Let Mike Maccagnan run a free agency period in which they spent $191.2M on Le'Veon Bell, C.J. Mosley, Jamison Crowder and Henry Anderson.

2. Let Maccaggnan run a draft in which they had the 3rd pick.

3. Fire Maccaggnan three weeks after the draft.

Knicks and Jets ask each other to hold their beers.

Both beers fall to the ground.

Don’t care. 3 had to be done

Regardless of who is right and wrong in this particular instance, one can't sustain success with the level of churn the Jets have had at GM/HC.

All true, but now if the Jets suck, Gase and Johnson can blame the people who just got fired for putting the team together. What is the opposite of accountability?

I'm with Gace on Bell. He'll probably have a reasonably productive first season (though not at Pittsburgh levels), then spend the rest of his contract fat and oft-injured.

Yeah by the time the Jets are ready to truly contend - maybe 2020, maybe 2021 if things go well - Bell will not be the same player.

I don’t know who is right, wrong or anything in between. I suspect Gase is right that they used resources poorly on Bell.

Regardless, this whole thing is pure gold. The Jets just give and give and give.

For hilarity, though, this pales in comparison to the crazy-eyes in the intro press conference. That's going to have one of those 10-minute mini-documentaries about it one of these days.
