Matt Rhule apparently pulled his name out of consideration for the jets job because the jets wouldn’t give him control over hiring his own staff.

in other words the Jets Front office wanted to pick his staff for him.

so who do the Jets hire instead? Adam Gase!

Edit: Breer says Gase will bring along Dolphins OC Dowell Loggains, to be the new OC for the jets

Holy smoke. That tweet should be the basis for a mandatory 3-hour lecture for every j-school candidate in the known universe.
Well, to be fair, Mehta isn't a journalist so nobody should be holding him to the same standards as big or little Js.

Said it in the other thread, didn’t think Miami should have fired him, so now I own it.

We’ll see. It’s always darkest before the dawn.

Were I a Jets fan, I wouldn't be that upset about the Gase hire. Avoided the known duds, and in the absence of a known rockstar being available, they made one of the highest-upside bets they could. Odds are, Belichick will retire before Gase is fired.

Interesting fact that may only be interesting to me: each of the last six Jets head coaches, beginning with Tuna in 1997, had a winning record in their first season. Needless to say their second seasons and beyond have tended to go... less well. Although Parcells had a good second year, as did Rexy.

I just don't get sad Jets' fans love affair with McCarthy. The Packers pretty consistently underperformed and stepped on their dicks in the playoffs during his tenure, didn't they? Gase seems like a much better bet.

I don't get it either. I don't think I can say I really like the Gase hire, but if I'm the Jets it seems like a better gamble than McCarthy. Gase's Dolphins won the exact same number of games over the last 3 years as the Packers with Aaron Rodgers (minus half of a year)

Did anyone else watch that jets press conference?

It was a tire fire. He looked and acted really strange.

One of his quotes.

the concerns about Gase were his ability to do well with the media as well as the perception he alienated his players in Miami.

step 1 I guess is already a failure so far.

What is he on?

It reminds me of the episode of the Simpsons where Sideshow Bob runs for mayor and he defeats Quimby because the latter took a bunch of cold medicine before their debate.

Schumer/Pelosi one week and then Gase the next? Do these things happen in threes?

Just let my 7 year old watch that Gase video bc he wanted to know why I was laughing, and I wondered if he would think it's odd. He won't stop laughing or asking to see it again.

It's Wallace Matthews, but still ...

he looked like a guy in a hostage video, all bulging eyes and awkward side-to-side movements like a cross between a deer in the headlights and an early prototype of the animatronics exhibit for Disney’s Hall of Presidents.
Gase seemed similarly confused. After his introduction, he spoke for precisely one minute and 19 seconds, during which he blinked six times. His eyes had the glassy quality of someone who had just stared into a total eclipse, and he looked up at the ceiling while answering questions, his head lolling from side to side almost mechanically. He looked both overwhelmed and over-caffeinated. He might just as appropriately have been named Adam Gaze.

“You can just feel the energy in the building,’’ he said. “Today’s been a great day.’’

Any truth to rumor that he's bringing in Reche Caldwell to be OC?

Where the Dolphins people at? Is he always like this, or was it an aberration.

This is the problem with edibles and Molly. You really can’t time it.

As a dolphins fan I don’t recall ever seeing him in a suit or without a hat on pulled way down. Usually in sweatshirt. He’d stand at podium with hat on and hands on podium leaning forward so you’d never see his face clearly

Maybe he cant deal with lights/bright
