Jags wouldnt save any $ by dealing Ramsey. They have about $9 mill in cap room. So its not crazy that they make a move for it, as they would only need to free up a couple mill

Before everyone starts wanting to trade Eli ... who would be Jones's backup?

Why not? He has 3.6M in salary with no future bonus money. Looks like they should save over $2M depending on timing of trade. What am I missing?

Wouldn't the best landing spot for him be the Bears?

It's basically a mirror image of the Giants teams he won SBs with. He can't be worse than Trubisky, I refuse to believe that.

While you may be right on Trubisky, no chance they bench him for a year of Eli. For me, it feels like Jacksonville or nobody.

Is Eli any good anymore? His numbers were better than I thought last year, playing with a top wide receiver and a great RB; but QB stats are hard to evaluate today because almost everyone has numbers that look good on paper. If I'm the Bears, do I really feel comfortable starting Eli over Trubisky? They had similar numbers last year, Eli threw for a bit more yards but Trubisky has a lot more mobility, and also has theoretical potential to get better, while we all know Eli is on the decline.

Out of the current starting QBs, how many teams would rather have Eli than their current starter? Definitely the Jets and Dolphins, maybe Pittsburgh and Jacksonville, though they seem to both like their backups. New Orleans? If Eli can't start for the Giants, there are not a lot of teams that would be willing to make him their #1.

Can't wait for the 11/10 showdown when the Giants visit the Jets. I don't think you could put together one decent NFL squad from the players and coaches on both sidelines. what a ball of suck.

Having grown up in NY/NJ with New England roots I am the rare fan of both the Pats and Giants. I always felt that the two SB wins were actually bad for the Giants because it convinced the fan base and more importantly, management, that both those teams were good instead of just exceedingly lucky, which meant that they extended the tenures of both Coughlin and Eli and didn't force the organization to take the steps needed to actually become a good, dominant team like in the Parcells/LT era.

If Kyle Williams doesn't muff two punts in that NFC championship game nobody is talking Eli for Hall of Fame.

Sorry: TRIGGER WARNING for Niner fans.

The first one was the one that grazed his knee. One muffed punt. This was the one in overtime.

We've been through this a few times already. Tom Brady didn't have a Hall of Fame worthy game that Sunday. either.

2011 wasn't a great statistical season for Eli, but he willed that team to a Super Bowl Championship.

If he lost those SBs, (he was behind in both until the final 1-2 minutes) would his post-seasons of 2007 and 2011 be enough to get him into the HoF?

I'm assuming you will say "no"

So in essence, 2 good 4th qtrs in a 15 year career will get him in.
LI: Great 4th quarter and OT. Poor start to the game.
LII: Strip sack fumble by Brandon Graham to end the game-winning drive with 2 minutes left in the game.
LII: Good 4th quarter. Sony Michel and the run game wearing down the Rams and paying dividends in the 4th quarter, and the defense never allowing the Rams to have a drive over 5 minutes or 50 yards.

If we can do hypotheticals about "if he lost that SB," what if the Patriots don't have an incredible comeback and lose LI? Belichick probably moves on from Brady with Garoppolo, and Kraft doesn't order the code red to trade Jimmy G. If they let the QB controversy go on for another year, maybe they move on after LII. Respect to Belichick and Brady for being true competitors. I'll always believe Brady/Jimmy G. was Belichick's way of recalling Bill Walsh 1988 with Montana/Young. Walsh was ruthless, and pushed the 49ers to a their their third Super Bowl Championship(and first in 4 years) in his final season. Seifert won another the next year, and the New York Football Giants made sure "There would be no Three-peat."

To bring this back to Eli, he should have had a more competitive QB to challenge him before this year.

The Daniel Jones era begins. I was hoping hi first start would be at home November 20th against the Cardinals, with 10 full days after the Thursday night game at New England. Golden Tate and Sterling Shepard would be expected by then as well.

The New York Football Giants picked up Tuzar Skipper off waivers. Gettleman has had some success here in the past and in Carolina in this area.

The sorely need the pash rush, so maybe they get lucky with Skipper. Janoris Jenkins will keep getting sold on deep routes, and players have time to just break the route off and come back to their QB. Deandre Baker has looked poor, but he had the knee injury that limited him in preseason. Hopefully the secondary improves, they get lucky with some pass rush help, and honestly trade away Janoris Jenkins. Jackrabbit could be helping a competitive team this year instead of trying to chase receivers all over the field.

Someone combine these 2 Giants threads? We don't need 1 per likely 2019 win.

Best QB in Giants history, right? Tittle was my first thought, but his run was only for four seasons.

Highest QB rating in NYG history, minimum of 100 attempted passes? Kurt Warner! He has to be the only guy where that's true for three different teams.

I still find it amazing that the highest QB rating Eli ever achieved was 93.6. His best rating year in 2015 would have put him 20th on last year’s list, just above Ryan Tannehill.

These are New York Football Giants threads? This is the lol@Daniel Jones thread, the other one is wishcasting Eli Manning never won a Super Bowl. What the fuck does Eli Alone even mean? :bagd: (That Mark Pope video is pretty cool, I have no idea if anyone watched it here.)

I have no idea what your point about Brady is in an Eli thread, as there is no legitimate argument as to the parity of Eli to Brady as QBs, either in the regular season or the post-season.

The if"he lost the SBs" was a hypothetical to make the poster queried, actually focus on the 99% of Eli's career that did not encompass the 4th qtrs of the two SBs he found himself in, and realize that for 99% of Eli's career he was an average NFL QB.

I posted it in the other thread, but Eli's single best season ranks 225 on the all time list. In a passing era. Marc Bulger had a rating better than 93.6 twice. Guys like Chris Chandler and Brian Griese appear above him on the list. It's really pretty pathetic. I think I counted 8 Phillip Rivers seasons that were better than a single Eli season.

And that 225 number is going to be like 325-350 by the time he’s eligible.

Yes, the only one for three teams. Manning & Pennington each have 2, and Fitzpatrick has 1 and is pretty close on a couple others.

Thats an interesting thought but the Parcells/LT era gave them two rings as well.

14 years, 2 rings in two of the most exciting Superbowls ever. . Can't complain about that.

Charlie Conerly played 14 seasons, all with the Giants. Hard to compare quarterback ratings from the 40s 50s and 60s with today, but Conerly had more TD passes than interceptions and that was very good back then. Bobby Layne and Joe Namath missed by a wide margin, for example. Conerly was
57-31-1 as a starter. Phil Simms is a top 5 Giants all time QB too I’d say.

Eli, Conerly, Simms; they’ll put Eli 1 because of the Super Bowls.

The case for Eli for the HOF:
- 2 SB championships, 2 SB MVPs, beat Tom Brady and the Patriots twice (no small thing)
- Incredible durability and longevity
- Will retire in the top 10 in many counting stats

The case against Eli for the HOF:
- Just 116-116 lifetime W-L
- His five best seasons by passer rating - seasons over 90.0 rating - he had only one winning record:
2015: 93.6 - 6-10
2009: 93.1 - 8-8
2011: 92.9 - 9-7
2018: 92.4 - 5-11
2014: 92.1 - 6-10
So at his very best, he never elevated his team, except for the two SB runs, of course.
- Winless in 4 playoff tries, minus the two SB runs.
- Only 4 pro bowl appearances in a long, long career.
- Never considered even a top tier QB at any point in his career.

Long story short, he's not a HOF quarterback, but I'm convinced that the two SB runs and counting stats will be enough for him to be a shoo-in.

He does not have one season among the top 200 all time in passer rating.

He has only led the league in one passer category during his whole career: interceptions, 3 times. Just like Brett Favre! Except Favre led the league in TDs 4x and yards 2x. And was a 3x All Pro and MVP.

Conerly, meanwhile, led the league in QBR once, TD% once, Y/A once, and INT% thrice. He did lead the league in interceptions once. I think I'd still lean Eli, but I have to admit I don't know a lot about Conerly. I definitely put Eli ahead of Simms, who has the same amount of dominant seasons (0) and half as many Super Bowls wins as starter and Pro Bowls.

Eli handled today with absolute grace and class. He said all the right things, especially about his role as a mentor to Daniel Jones, to help and support him. They've got a good quarterback on the scout team now, so hopefully that will help improve this defense.

Everything Eli does from this point forward may be his last as a New York Football Giant. His last pass was to T.J. Jones, as well as his last touchdown pass.

The Buffalo Bills are looking good this year. Two road wins at MetLife, and week three is a home game against the Bengals. They play in New England week four, so a definite trap game. They had a big come from behind win against the Jets, and really should have been able to put the game away earlier and by a bigger margin this week. Buffalo has been drafting well under Beane, and McDermott looks to be one of the more promising young head coaches in the league. Brian Daboll is their OC, so their offense has the versatility to exploit mismatches a la Patriots/Erhardt-Perkins.

if the Bills can get to the bye week 3-2 or better, they have three games at home. Miami, Philadelphia, and Washington. They have a very favorable early schedule if they can continue to take advantage. Year three of Beane/McDermott looks to be off to a great start compared to year two of Gettleman/Shermer(I'm removing the w(double u) because Pat is 15-36 as a head coach. The 98.5 touch for @Jimbodandy).

I was reading this article, and it states that Eli holds the record for lifetime NFL earnings at $252M, $4M ahead of Peyton.

That makes some sense to me, given Eli's timing and placement coming into the league, but I'm curious to figure out which player (presumably a QB) is in line to pass him next. Problem is, I can't find out where said article go its info from. Pro football reference only seems to have current salaries. Any ideas?

OK, nm, I found a list here that goes through the end of 2018.

Looks to me like Big Ben, with his supposed $45M in compensation coming this year, should be the leader by the time the end of the 2019 season rolls around.

The other surprise is that a non-QB, Larry Fitzgerald, is in the top 10. Good for Larry!

Eli's offenses have averaged less than 20 points per game in his 12 playoff games (231 total points). In 2007 they scored 24, 21, 23, and 17 points en route to the title. Eli threw for < 200 yards in 2 of those 4 games. I think this all comes down to beating the Pats twice.

Edit: Brady has averaged more PPG in his playoff losses than Eli has in all of his playoff games. In only 1 out of his 12 playoff games did Eli put up more than 24 points.

It does come down to beating the Pats twice. But so what? He beat probably the greatest team ever assembled twice, and while the first one was a fluke he was nails in the second one.

I don’t understand the obsession with proving that he isn’t a hall of famer. 98.5 had a segment on it as well.

There’s precedence in the football hall of fame. Namath is in. Eli will probably get it in. Numbers\ability wise is he a hall of famer? I don’t think so. But add in his clutch performances and historic wins and it gets him in.
