The best thing going into this draft is that the BPA is going to match needs throughout the draft. Added to that, the team has played a great game of poker throughout the lying season. I have no idea who they are going to pick. I would love to see teams jump and take QBs, and Quinnen Williams falls to 6. If that doesn't happen, I'd love to see Christian Wilkins fall to 17. Outside of the names mentioned at 6, I would push hard for Jonah Williams or Devin Bush. I would love for a day two (or day one) pick used on Taylor Rapp. To a lesser degree, Amani Hooker on day two. Get someone paired with Peppers for the long term. There are some serious depth concerns at CB (Janoris "Jackrabiit" Jenkins, Sam Beal,...and a cliff) to address as well.
Two picks on day one, two picks on day two, and eight picks on day three. They're going to use some day three picks to trade up, but I do hope they pick Benny Snell/Mike Weber/ Alex Barnes as an RB to run between the tackles and short yardage to add to the rotation and take some of the load off Saquon. This is a deep draft at WR, so I'm hoping for a day three selection like Ashton Dulin there, and a LB to challenge the rotation like Sione Takitaki. I can see Evan Engram traded for 2020 picks or to get another selection on day two, because I really don't see where his fit is in this offense.

Not to mention Gettleman turning in a passable NY wiseguy performance every time he gets in front of a mic.

FWIW, Gettleman was born in Boston, went to Boston Latin and Springfield College. Doesn't necessarily contradict what you said, but I wonder if that's widely known here.

A lot of MA-born GMs. Eric DeCosta is from Taunton and went to Colby, Bob Quinn is from Norwood and went to UConn. I'm probably missing a couple.

The Giants have positioned themselves well to build the base through this year's draft, while still maintaining their true target of the #1 or 2 pick in the 2020 draft. Eli's replacement will not be drafted until 2020 IMHO.

I am so rooting for Eli to start enough games to be -3 as a starter in 2019

where I was last at
Eli's HoF case is 2 good 4th qtrs in the SB and longevity.

His 15 year body of work defines mediocre. The last time I checked, the only statistical category he was a leader in was interceptions, where he led the league 3-times..

Eli Manning Passer Rating Ranking by Year:

2018: 21
2017: 27
2016: 22
2015: 13 (Pro Bowl)
2014: 15
2013: 35
2012: 14 (Pro Bowl)
2011: 7 (Pro Bowl)
2010: 17
2009: 10
2008: 18 (Pro Bowl)
2007: 20
2006: 19
2005: 24

AVG: 18.7

Only 2 top 10 seasons in 14 years as a starter, which is almost certainly about to go to 2 in 15 years. However, he is top 10 in many aggregate stats so that's basically the answer right there. Longevity and 2 SB wins will get him in. I certainly won't agree with it but it's 100% happening.

I'm a total, complete broken record on this subject but it is so easy to make an anti-HoF case against Eli.

Edit: removed linked post. Not relevant to the 2019 NY Giants.

Yup. Not fair to people interested in discussing the 2019 Giants season so I won't go into it any further.

No disagreement from me. He was always pretty good at getting sacked too. How was his nickname not Lightning?

What are the feelings here on Giants-related Haskins and Daniel Jones rumors?
I like them both, but not at #6 and I'd hope they fall to #17 if they want to select a QB. That doesn't seem likely, and I'd expect a run on Murray/Haskins/Lock/Jones by 15, with the Redskins trading up for a QB. I'd prefer trading for Josh Rosen over drafting one of the QBs. They can fill so many needs in this draft. #6 could be one of Bosa/Williams/Allen if they fall, Oliver/White/Bush if they don't They can get an OT or double down on defense in the first round. There are some great Day three WR prospects and RBs that fit needs, I'm hoping for that because there are so many ways they can go at the top of the draft because of so many needs across the roster.

Smart pick by the Giants taking the best QB in the draft. Proven success in the best CFB conference and the guy can sell jeans as well. Hopefully the Giants D prevents them from many NFCCGs.

The giants based their decision to draft him, after watching him play in 3 series. In the senior bowl?

JFC the giants are a tire fire.

(sorry mobile folks, you gotta see the whole post to get the joke)

I've defended Gettleman but I think there are pretty serious questions about all three of his selections yesterday.

Sorry guys, and I mean that with some sincerity as I’m a Fins fan and come from a family of Giants fans so I do root for them to some degree, i’d be so pissed that my Offense wasn’t build around Haskins, Barkley and Beckham. That’s a core to be excited about, a potentially great group for the next decade, and it’s thrown away by decisions they were in control over...It upsets me just thinking about it, and they aren’t even my team.

Thought I'd create this thread to celebrate the fact that, after today's drubbing by the mighty Buffalo Bills, Peyton's much-less talented younger brother now has a lifetime regular season record of 116-116. That's right, .500 lifetime

I'm rooting for he Eli diehards to keep him starting as much of the remainder of the season as possible to drive him further under that number.

Yes, I am a bad person for wishing this.

Well he's 8-4 in the playoffs so it would be good if he finished 5-11 or worse this year. Although .500 isn't bad: he once made the playoffs with an 8-8 record.

I am loathe to complain about anything Patriots related for the past 20 years but losing two Super Bowls to Fredo Manning (one of which ruined a perfect season) a guy who happens to play for a team whose fans also happen to have a substantial overlap with MFY fans, does suck.

I'm always amazed at the amount of hate Eli gets. He never says anything controversial, wins that payton award for off the field stuff - I mean it's not like he's a pompous ass. Seems like a good guy.
If anything people are constantly dumping on him rather than praising him.

So so regular season QB who played great in two super bowl runs.

Loses two more games and he'll be under .500 as a starter. He's just not that good and I hate that we lost to this guy...and Nick Foles and Joe Bleeping Flacco...

For my part, I dump on Eli as a stand-in for all the pompous NYG fans I have run across who mindlessly sing his praises, think he’s somehow the magic Patriots killer, and have internalized that idea of NY just being superior to Boston in every possible way. They are also, invariably, MFY fans.

Sadly for them, the last few years have not been kind. Eli and the Giants have faded badly, the Pats have put on a brilliant second surge of greatness, and even the Eagles victory over NE makes them sad because Eli and the Giants are no longer “special”.

That, and he tried to rip off his own fans by selling fake paraphernalia as real, which is the sign of a special kind of douchebaggery.

I don't think he gets ENOUGH hate for the way he orchestrated his draft day deal. Imagine if Zion did that? Or Tua next year with Miami.

If there weren't so many people proclaiming him a hall of famer, then I don't think there'd be so many people jumping in to point out that for his entire career he's been average, slightly above average and below average, with a shit ton of longevity and health and two great postseason runs propped up by fantastic defenses.

If Kyle Williams doesn't muff two punts in that NFC championship game nobody is talking Eli for Hall of Fame.

Sorry: TRIGGER WARNING for Niner fans.

God, that was almost worse than failing to get it in from the five in the SB against the Ravens and the horrible missed DPI against Crabtree on 4th down. Almost.

I think Eli is less likely to make the hall now than I thought his chances were two years ago. If anything, these past couple of seasons have seriously hampered his chances. He sucks and while he did win two SBs, that's basically the entirety of his resume. I guess you also have to respect the fact that he's never been hurt, which is kind of crazy.

Still, he's a debacle and the Giants are truly a bad team. With a very bad coach.

This isn't a Giants thread, but a dump on Eli Manning thread. I get it, I'd hate him too if I was a Pats fan.

I think most reasonable Giant fans will tell you that he isn't a Hall Of Fame quarterback. He COULD have been, but I don't think anyone predicted such a steep decline after the second superbowl. At the time though Eli was pretty money in the post season and I think most fans assumed he'd carry that swagger over the rest of his career. Unfortunately, he didn't.

As far as the Giants this year, being a fan is painful. The front office has made bonehead decision after bonehead decision, with the biggest one being the head coaching job. McAdoo was terrible. Shurmur isn't any better.

My biggest fear is that the team is holding on to something that won't be there. They need to accept a rebuilding process, but of course that will squander some good Saquon years.

Saquon is a bright spot though. Man, that guy is good.

I know a LOT of Giants fans, and every single one believes that Eli is a lock for the HoF. And I suspect that they're right, because the pro football HoF is weird, and he won 2 Super Bowls while basking in the adoration of NYC.

At the end of the day, this is a team with very poor defensive personnel and there is no quick fix to correcting this. The Giants have historically had very good defenses but that has changed. Now, teams can basically do whatever they want against them.

Saquon is awesome but he is going to be wasted on this team.
