Ps. Why Sanu? I know you @Seels hope that Sanu and all his descendants rot in hell Seels, but I thought he played ok today. He had the big catch in the first half that was wiped out by the bogus PI on Watson and he also had a big catch on the final drive.
Because he's garbage and I'm utterly sick of him being garbage on an every play basis. This was his 2nd best game with the team - a 60% catch rate for 35 yards. He drops balls average players don't drop. I mean ffs their tight ends were better than Sanu today.

Hey BB did coach the team to 12 and 4. I know it feels like the sky is falling in, but about 28 other NFL team's fans would be dying to go 12 and 4. I am guilty as much as anyone here but let's get some perspective folks. Even in a quote DOWN year the team went 12 and 4. Don't act like Yankee fans.
Last year they went 11-5 and won the Super Bowl. It's hard to imagine, after today's debacle, this team putting it together for a championship run, but they could.

If they win next week, they can play with KC. They SHOULD have won this year vs KC if not for some awful reffing, to be honest. They get the running game cranking again and it's possible. Even on the road. Of course, if the D plays like they did today, Mahomes will put up Burrow-like numbers.

Last year they overcame early adversity and played the second half (and playoffs) with a chip on their shoulder.

This year they came out strong and dominated and when they got hit in the mouth (by the Ravens) they looked not only mortal, but weak - and finished the year 4-4. They are backing into the playoffs, still confused by that first hit. The boogeymen were supposed to be tough.

BTW this game also featured some bad luck. Miami lost three fumbles or muffs. They recovered all three. Odds are that New England recovers ONE of them, but nope. One of those games that makes you shake your head.

The goat for today? Gilmore especially, but the entire pass defense. No QB had thrown for more than 300 yards against this team this year. Fitzy threw for 320 today. Unconscionable.

Definitely has a different feel than last year, but they struggled in the second half of last year too.

Everyone, and I hate to include him but Bill. I will never understand - because we will never get a real explanation - why they pissed away 1:42 or whatever at the end of the first half. That is the most un-Patriots coaching move I have ever seen these past 20 years.

They had the bye. Big difference. As CBS pointed out they are 3-3 in the playoffs with Brady without the bye.

It was just the Miami Miracle that was off. They were a 12-4 team if that fluke doesn’t happen.

Losing to a Steelers at full strength isn’t the worst thing in the world. Their second half was far better than the first (the Lions game felt like the end).

For sure. I thought that the bye this year was enormous for their chances. Not getting it is a catastrophe. I wouldn't put anything past BB and TB but their chances now seem slim and none, and slim's heading out the door.

What is sad is MIA is the exact offense this defense was built to beat. MIA has zero running game and collectively our "vaunted" DB group laid an egg.

The Belichick explanation of the end of the first half died not hold water because they let the clock run after Miami failed on 3rd down.
Call a time out there, and get the ball with 1:30 left.
Then you can run the O exactly the way you did and it makes some sense.
Not calling a time out on D was just a complete show of no faith in the offense

Wise gets an HM goat for continuing his run of costly penalties. I believe Parcells would have cut him by now, but BB has kept him on the roster.

Rex and Sony were great and only touched the ball 25 times in a close game where the receivers, yet again, couldn’t get open, couldn’t catch it when they did, or were missed by Brady. They keep resisting the natural progression of this offense to power run/short passing and it cost the game. Obviously many other culprits today but they made it so much harder than it needed to be.

Coaching. Team was not prepared. In particular the defensive playcalls seemed to play right into Fitz’s old hands

Exactly. And playing for a FG is also an option. Why dismiss that? You lost by 3!

Not neccesarily just for this week, but massive regression or injuries to Jones, Chung, and JMac have really killed this secondary the last 6 weeks or so

We’re hosting a playoff game next week.
Sack up fellas.
But they shouldn’t be, and that’s why this thread exists. I should have excluded Rex from my “everyone”, he was great. Sony was good, but too many times he looked like he graduated from the Laurence Maroney School of Dance and not UGA. But overall he was not part of the problem.

The real goat is us for believing this team was for real. Defense generated zero turnovers the last two weeks. It was even worse than the score; the Dolphins only had nine drives and possessed the ball for almost 34 minutes. Three scores on four second half possessions. They're going to get embarrassed by a good offense in the playoffs.

Letting the TE position deteriorate to the execrable level that it is now is one of the bigger coaching failures this season, IMO. When your offense loses Trent Brown, Dave Andrews; Devlin (couldn't anticipate); Gronk (blocker and receiver) and Dwayne Allen (shit receiver but very strong blocker), you have to prepare. I assume they felt Wynn for Brown was a wash and Devlin and Andrews were unanticipated but their contingencies (Roberts and Karras) were moderately acceptable. The TE position has to be one of the worst units if not the worst unit in the NFL this year, if not this past decade. That's not acceptable.

Oh I think they should be hosting one. Anyone who is arguing that they are a top 2 AFC team hasn’t watched the last two months.

That being said, the slate is wiped clean.

Anyone here think BB is going gentle into that good night? Yeah. Didn’t think so. I’m going to enjoy this week of people doubting the Pats. Who knows? We all know weird shit happens in the playoffs. I’m willing to wait and see.

Feels like if they win next week they could get run off the field in KC - and maybe that will be less painful than some of the alternatives. I won’t bet against TB and BB but the odds feel really really low right now. C’est la vie.

I also keep coming back to the BB comment from last week in the locker room after the Bills game: it’s the playoffs right now. And they shat the bed. But they get a mulligan. Maybe that gets put to good use.

KC kind of sucks this year too though. No idea what happens in a rematch with both teams playing below their level for much of the year.

Especially JMac and to a lesser degree, Chung. What sucks that they won't have another week to heal up.

I think they're arguably a top 2 team. Officiating fucked them against the Chiefs, or we would have been resting players today and unconcerned about the outcome. And it's not like the Chiefs cruised to victory today - the Chargers could easily have won. Division games are often a rock fight (see also the Packers game). But regardless of what they deserved, they've got an uphill battle now.

Well, well, well, we got a trooper here and I'm right there with you.

I try to practice zen as much as I can. I can't get upset at losing something if it wasn't yours to begin with.

Pats have a lot of vets on the team. Time to bury this one and quickly turn their heads around for next week.

If this is the end of the golden age, what a hell of a F-ing run it was. Greatest stretch in the history of the sport, bar none. But I'm not 100% convinced they're done...just yet.

Not only talking about this year, but next. I could see Brady coming back, Andrews comes back healthy (and he's a huge key), another year of development for the young guys, shore up TE and WR in the offseason, and go 12-4 again and see what happens.

First things first. Take a day to rest. Come up with a good game plan for Tennessee or Pittsburgh or Oakland (it's gonna be Ten). Play balls to the wall in the WC game and then see what happens in KC. Stranger things than upsetting them there have happened.

I'm with you. At times (like today) the Pats have looked bad enough to lose at home to Tennessee. But BB and TB have a history of winning all sorts of games, including huge ones on the road, that they had no business winning. No outcome would shock me -- from losing next week to winning it all.

The all time defense had a pretty shitty tacking day. And the defensive coaching was weird. Never made the adjustments. Did Miami even pretend to run?
oh, and Bill is never going to explain anything at a press conference. I’ll speculate he was pissed at the offensive execution and wanted to regroup.
On to next week. Edelman and Brady are still alive, so we have that.

I say the Titans who are fighting for their lives today have a pretty tough road ahead, facing a pissed off Patriots team in Foxboro.

Because he's garbage and I'm utterly sick of him being garbage on an every play basis. This was his 2nd best game with the team - a 60% catch rate for 35 yards. He drops balls average players don't drop. I mean ffs their tight ends were better than Sanu today.
Sanu is what you get when you blow your cap space on an extremely talented but infantile sociopath in an attempt to put the team in the best position for another run. Had it worked out, today would've been a lot closer to the 43-0 win than the loss, but it didn't work out. Lesson learned, move on.

They tried to sign Jared Cook but Gronk wasn’t retired by then.

When does the schedule come out?

The offense that had just scored twice in three or four minutes before Miami got the ball and were then forced to punt?
