Workmanlike win--I'll just say defense, Brady, Gordon, and Burkhead.

I'm mildly concerned about Michel, but the OL is sill in flux so...

Uneven game from the offense after a sizzling start. The thousand cuts are starting to add up. Fortunately, the team has recovered from far worse in the past.

Game Ball to the D once again. Doesn't matter it was against a practice squad QB; winz are winz, no matter how they happen. Collins has been the team's early season MVP; I'm only half joking.

I hope this stupid Gunnar play makes him realize to just fair catch it when it's that close. Very Chris Harper feel to that play.

Me thinks Gunnar will be spending some time with Joe Judge this week to go over that very topic. Rookies will make rookie mistakes; he's obviously still realizing just how fast NFL players really do get downfield.

Despite the drop Edelman was fantastic. He had a game worth of stats in a half game.

He is so crucial to the offense. Rap by the way says rib x-ray negative.

Edit: Beaten

Collins, Gordon (though he and Brady were a little off early), the D in general.

On another note, all I want is (relative) good health for this team. They can be special, even considering what that means in the context of the past 20 years.

Gunner and Stidham for helping the defense to fly under the radar for awhile...I mean, how good can they be giving up 14 points to the Jets?

Slater gets my real game ball though. As a wise man said in the game thread, he pretty much ended the game with that play.

Collins and the D

On the downside, a W is a W but plenty of ammunition for BB to chew the team out this week including
- 7 punts against a pathetic team
- The Gunner fumble
- The Stidham interception (I'm guessing the one message he was given going out is no turnovers)
- and waddup with Sony Michel so far this year?!

I love Phil Dorsett but he did make a bad play on that 2nd and 10 catch in the second half, I forget which drive. He got 9 yards and went out of bounds but could / should have dove and picked up the first. Sony lost yards next play and Pats punted.

What’s up with Sony Michel is largely horrendous blocking up front. Not entirely - Rex looked sharp on opening night when Sony was throwing up a 15 carries for 14 yards - but still. The OL needs to be way, way more consistent. I believe they will, even with the injuries. Give it time. Time and Dante.

Solid game overall. I’m hoping the offensive slowdown is due to playing more vanilla offense once they were up 3 scores and the Jets offense showing nothing

I also think one of the things BB identified as a negative of the practice changes a few years ago was that it takes the o line longer to gel.

yep. for all the talk about michel getting up to speed in the passing game, it seems teams are really keying on the run when he is in there. he hasn't looked great but i put a lot of it on scheme and O-line.

Im an optimist, rope a dope for the Chiefs game to get HFA. Sony will have 6 catches for 100 yards out of the backfield.

And no Edelman in second half.

The Patriots’ defense gets my game ball. The Jets has only 69 yards passing and 36 yards rushing for the entire game. And the Jets were 0-12 on third down conversions. The Jets’ offense was thoroughly muzzled and that was the most dominant defensive performance I can remember from a Patriots team.

Honorable mention to Josh Gordon who played well despite getting banged up. A lot of throws going his way were not caught but he battled throughout.

Obviously the OL struggled to pass block and still have issues, given all the injuries and early season lack of cohesion, BUT: Did anyone have a sense of Newhouse at LT today? Serviceable? Terrible in the run game?

He made a big block on the touchdown by Burkhead on the outside.

I think the lack of a running game this week had more to do with Develin being out (and an offensive line in flux) than anything else. They basically didn't use a lead blocker, which is the bread and butter of their power running game. When Sony was on the field, and they handed it off, the Jets were just waiting for him, which is why they were slinging it around the field for most of the first half. Then they lost Edelman at halftime, Gordon missed a couple series, and the score was already 23-0, so we saw the "Don't fuck up and let the Jets back in the game" offense for a while. Then Stidham and Gunnar kind of let the Jets back in the game, and the defense shut the door.

All in all, if they come out of this healthy, and start getting guys back for the 2nd half of the season, this team is going to be really, really fucking good.

Collins and Gordon.

And please, no more punting on 4th and short from the opponent's 40. Do I remember correctly that they did this 3 times today?

They won’t do that against good teams.l where they are forced the consider higher benefit/variance decisions like going for fourth ad shorts near midfield.

Once was at end of first half, knowing they get the ball right back. The others are when the game was effectively over. They won't do that when game is competitive.

One correction. The game was effectively over as soon as the teams came out of their tunnels.

Dorsett's whole pat's career the last 2 years has been waiting for the guys ahead of him on the depth chart to go down, and then going back to the bench when they came back with no public complaints. Another solid game, should have been 7 catches on 7 targets, and with Brown gone and Edelman at least a little gimpy it doesn't look like he's going back to the bench anytime soon. So happy they didn't trade him a few weeks ago, he has Brady's full trust.

At the same time, Sony was ranked dead last in PFF's elusive rating. He's not making anyone miss even when blocking is decent. Compare his running to Burkhead's, for example.

Not worried though. Still time to change his name to Samsung.

Here
With regards to Sony, It’s not just the OL, but losing two of the best blocking TE in recent memory and no Develin. It’s also predictable what’s gonna happen when he’s on the field, they ran to him like 85% of the snaps he was out there.

I’m not about to complain about McDaniels but I am legitimately curious why they can’t get him involved in passing game given their proclivity to run with him in the game.

I’m starting to think we have another Ridley type on our hands. Including playoffs, believe Michel now has 8 catches in 19 NFL games.

It was a fair catch. He just missed the ball.
“Called a fair catch. I lost focus, didn’t look it all the way in and it went through my hands,” Olszewski said. “Unacceptable. There’s no excuse for it.”
