Well, it sounds like they were trying to trade up but it didn't work out. Not sure we lost anything here. Too many picks this year, and it's a weak draft. A later pick next year is probably preferable.
“but it didn’t work out ...”

Should be pinned for the next priapism outbreak occasioned by the stockpiling of picks that turn into more picks still via Belichickian “value” trades.

Where is the Grant Williams thread dammit. I want to talk about how much I like that pick, but I'm too lazy to make a thread

I'd love Russell but I think the board would hate it?
I wouldn't hate acquiring Russell. He provides lots of firepower for a team that will need offense, he's young enough to fit the timeline (assuming he fits the culture), and we'll forget his LA indiscretions in time.

Not clear.
Good argument that any 1st next year is more valuable than 24 this year. It's not a great draft. Cutting 8M off the cap isn't nothing either.
Out of the last 10 years, nine of them have been "terrible drafts". At this point, 90 percent of the players in the league are from these terrible drafts, and somehow, there are players winning and producing.

There are levels, I agree drafts get talked down as they happen, but this one is legitimately considered the worst in some time outside of Zion and maybe Ja.

The NBA is very different. He's converting to a stockpile next year. Not the end of the world given the team's current state. Eventually, something will work. It's happened a few times already.

I love Kemba but is he a good fit for this team? A ball dominant scoring PG didn’t seem to fit in that well with the glut of wings last season.
Without Horford, Kyrie and Morris, we need scoring from just about anywhere....

Anyone else in Boston getting these marijuana infomercials every hour or so....Yes, yes, most of us know that we can get edibles and have for about 25 years...

I don't think so; if they are getting a PG I'd much prefer Russell, who you can at least dream on continuing to develop and fitting the timeline of Brown/Tatum....Langford :)

There is something seriously broken with the NBA salary cap when Golden State can potentially spent $400m per year on salary per season, for the next 4 years, and yet the "cap" is $109m next year.

They know a market when they see it. Irving, Horford, AD > LA and cloning draft picks when 90% of drafts are “turrible”.

This draft isn’t that bad of a draft. The knock on it was that it had a clear top three and then a notable drop off. It was however, believed to be fairly deep with role players and guys who could have long NBA careers. Those are the kind of guys you hope to nab towards the end of the first round, so assuming that 30 next year is better than 24 this year because picks 5-10 are considered weak doesn’t really add up.

Yes mostly drafted in the high lottery.

We are seriously depleted at the 4 and 5 with Horford, Baynes (and likely Morris) gone. I would have liked Sekou or Goga at 14.

Not going to lie. I am soooooooooooooooo fucking bored.

Yes Danny Ainge, you bore me.
The only reason I'm still up is to see if Bol Bol is selected in the 2nd round. If he goes undrafted I will die in peace. I'm guessing somebody has to take him at some point though.

Well no kidding. But how does that make next year's #28 more valuable than this year's #24?

Usually you get a premium for giving up the earlier pick.

In short, desperation is a stinky cologne.
They are interchangeable picks and only one of them still has unrealized potential.
