At this point in the draft, get a guy with one NBA caliber skill. Danny is always trying to hit home runs and ends up with guys like this.

How much must he hate the big guys left?

Some day, the Celtics roster will be completely guys who are 6-6
Infinite switchability

What are the salary capulet implications of adding Langford?
The Celtics had better not take Jahleem Montague in 2020.

Langford was a 5 star recruit out of HS. #7 overall recruit. Scored 3000 points in HS. He knows how to score. If they are going younger, it gives him time to develop.
Are we giving him a wash for freshman year, so he's a none-and-done?

I don’t hate the pick. You’re pissing into the wind at this point of the draft and it’s a weak draft at that. If he becomes a competent three point shooter he’s probably a decent future bench scorer.

The ability to get to the rim and to get FTs is welcome on the roster, at least.
I think his mentality, particularly on offense, was probably a big draw for Ainge. He’s aggressive and gets after it. That plus positional size and some skills = take the risk he’ll shoot and try to coach him up.

The instant negativity towards the Langford pick is amazing. You'll all talk yourselves into him anyway! I'm already on the way

We’ve still got two more this round. Let’s see if we can’t get ourselves a big who can’t rebound or a ball-stopping PG with poor vision and a high turnover/assist before we write the coda.
Sure, but the inverse square law tends to apply to draft order as it relates to chances of NBA success. #14 was by far the best opportunity and should comprise most of the grade.

Danny loves a guy who was a top HS prospect, then got to college and lost his luster because it turns out trying real hard is less important than shoot the basketball. Problem is that very few of those guys turn into much more than 8th men, and even those usually do it with defense. I can see Langford working out, but given our roster, and what else was out there, I'm not thrilled.

My Young comparison comes down to: this guy is not good and has no path to playing time. And will be of no use to the Celtics.
Watched of a lot of Indiana hoops this season, did you? If memory serves, you absolutely ripped the Jaylen Brown pick a few years ago.

Who would you have drafted at 14?

If we take Clarke here I'll be happy, honestly as much as I don't like Langford, if he'd been picked at 20 and Clarke at 14, I'd have been fine with it

It makes me think he's probably a good pick.
Half the fun of draft night. He was hardly ever mentioned as a Celtics target in mocks so I never looked deep into him. I trust the team's judgment -- and lots of interesting prospects still on the board.

Am I wrong to think Langford is Avery Bradley 2.0 with a better finish at the rim? They both had questions about their shooting coming in, Langford finishes better, Bradley defended better?

I'm ok with trading 22 for top of the 2nd and something else and getting Kabengele (assuming he lasts)
