Jesus, are the yankees using up all their luck with BABIP in this series? I tuned in last inning and now I've seen two bullets hit by the Twins to the deep outfield or warning track and another drive to the start of the track, in that time, all caught. FUCK.

I mean, Gregorius has been pretty bad all season but this series he comes up and just rakes. How does this happen?

He was paid a visit by Mystique and Aura.
Cashman deserves every bit of credit he gets for assembling this team. He clearly nailed the prospect return in his trades but he also identified good veterans to acquire and Didi is a prime example.

He destroys the Twins somehow, he was the one who hit the 3 run HR to tie it back up at 3 in the bottom of the first of the 2017 wild card game (after Severino was already knocked out) and he seriously has 29 RBIs in his last 13 games against them now.

The Yankees have a first round bye, so it was nice of the Twins to play these 3 exhibition games with them to help them stay sharp for the next round. Maybe the Twins will get some of their autographs after the game.

These guys in the booth discussing the "what ifs" of the Twins' 2nd inning... we know exactly what would have happened -- the Twins would lose in a more dramatic style.

Yankees score 25+ runs in a 3-game sweep. I've already said enough about the Twins pitching staff over the season. I think Minnesota and Cleveland combining for 194 wins said more about the rest of the AL Central than it did about them.
Great series for the Twins. They only allowed 23 runs. Egg on my face.

Figures the series would end with a Twins hitter taking strike 3 right over the plate. The team didn't show up for the series -- again.

Pathetic showing. The Yankees were unquestionably better, but for all the talk about how the Twins previous struggles had nothing to do with this year’s team, it was the same old shit.

They went 34-36 versus teams with a winning record, so yeah, flat track bullies.

The Yanks went 42-29, helped immensely by that 14-5 record vs the Sox this year.
The Sox were also 7-12 versus the Rays. The play against those 2 teams killed us. The 104-125 run scored vs runs against versus the MFY was bizarre.

Classy showing by the Yankees fans.

"Indeed, the Twins’ relievers got showered with beer and epithets and “a lot of expletives.” Mothers, daughters, wives, apparently they were all fair game for the hecklers who sought to rattle the visitors. “Someone told me they were going to do something to my wife while we were in New York,” Duffey said. “They take full advantage of whatever they paid for that ticket and they get their full money’s worth.”

It was unlike anything they’d experienced in Kansas City, or Detroit, or Chicago. But if he gets another chance to take on that environment, he’ll be better prepared.
“Boston’s fun, they’re baseball fans,” Duffey said. “Yankee fans, they just hate people.”

He's offended because a fan said he'd eff his wife and someone threw beer on them? I mean, I've heard worse on the way to baseball games and I'm betting the guards threw out whoever tossed the beer.

The specifics are a bit lame, but the goal was to intimidate the young Twins pitchers, and it seems like it worked, whether it was the NY lineup, the crowd, or a combo.

Yeah, I think that's the wrong take on this.

All that goodwill our resident Yankee fans have been earning in the Astros-Rays game threads is in danger of disappearing for dismissing or defending the abuse from their fellow fans.

"A bit" lame? C'mon

Yea, I'd be offended too if that was my wife or family. Wouldn't you? Come on, man.
Not if I was a baseball player. They have to have thicker skin than that. The fan is a jerk but every park has them and its always going to be worse in the playoffs. For a reliever to shit on an entire fanbase after he stinks in a series where his team got decimated, it just sounds like sour grapes.

And this sounds like a fan of the team which won in part because the "tactic" worked

I'm not defending the fan, I'm criticizing Duffey for being a baby. Nobody thinks all Red Sox fans are racist because Adam Jones and CC heard some foul stuff, right?

All boorish fan behavior is boorish ... are you saying Jones and CC were babies for bringing up the topic?

You are completely off base here. Heckle the player as much as you want, but threatening someone's wife or family is so classless. It should not happen anywhere.

No. They've earned their stripes and racism is a different animal. If they came out and said "someone said they'd bang my wife so all the fans are hateful people" then yes, I'd say grow up.

Either way - I digress.

Eh, honestly hard to argue about this without hearing exactly what was said, but I am sure similar stuff happens at virtually every big game in every stadium in every city. We can pull up Adam Jones quotes about Boston if you want.

Edit: I see crow already mentioned Jones, most teams have shitty fans and NY probably has more than most.

Nobody said that they endorse fans saying gross shit. We're just rolling our eyes at the "Yankee fans hate people" crap and other fanbases acting like they're superior. Some Yankee fans are horrible assholes. And so are some Twins fans! And Sox fans! There are enough shit humans to go around.

And that's not what the issue was. We all agree that all fanbases have their clods.

The point was the belittling of the Twins players for pointing out the behavior.

Eh, agree to disagree there. He can proclaim that Yankee fans all hate people, and I can think he sounds bitter as hell and that he let those guys get in his head.

This says it better than me:

"See, no one is being hurt here. No one is really offended by this. Are Yankees fans still bad? Yes, because they are Yankees fans, but that has nothing to do with this.

The truth is, all chants are stupid.

Remember when Bill Simmons started a Twitter account to organize chants at Boston Celtics games? It was incredibly lame. Just like the Uber chant. Some chants are offensive, but this one wasn't it. It's only offensive in the way that the wave is offensive. It's not really, it's just kind of annoying."

https://www.thebiglead.com/posts/yankees-fans-chanted-uber-at-randy-dobnak-and-the-internet-was-offended-on-his-behalf-01dpfap7bh52
Also that article doesn't even mention that every single preview of this game mentioned Dobnak being an Uber driver, because it's notable and amusing. He wasn't an Uber driver five years ago, he was completely undrafted out of college two years ago, started the year in A ball, drove Uber THIS SEASON to help make ends meet (yes, clearly minor league players should be paid more as I have written about a lot), but the bigger point is that he should certainly never be starting game 2 of the ALDS after 28 big league innings. This was the general feeling before the game, this was the main reason behind the chants, and this opinion was of course proven correct after he left with no outs in the third, having allowed 8 of the 13 batters he faced to reach base.

TL/DR: Plenty of good reasons to hate the Yankees and their fans, but this ain't one of them.
So, I didn’t want to double down on this too hard even tho I didn’t really agree. I still think chanting derogatorily about a guy’s day job is shitty. Saying “no one is actually offended or hurt by this” is absolutely not true.

But since some time has passed can we just call a spade a spade now that Yankee fans have been deplorable assholes this October?

Yeah, that was pretty bad, I think they tried to crack down on it hard in the last game, with repeated warnings on the scoreboard and throwing out fans without much provocation.
