Vladar, Vaakanainen, Blidh are on the ice this morning, leaving Frederic, Pasta and Kase as the only absentees. I’m assuming Frederic is a covid case. They‘ve said Pasta and Kase have international travel quarantine guidelines to follow.

Frederic was on the ice after practice...

“Trent Frederic, who hasn't been with the main group, is skating after practice with skills coach Kim Brandvold.”

[Edited to add that Cassidy expects full complement Thursday]

It’ll probably go to Vigneault. The Flyers we’re headed to a 105 point season after an 82 point previous season. That’s usually the recipe for winning this type of award.

Torts is a case of keeping a team on track through adversity. Lost Panarin and Bob in the off-season, dealt with a lot injuries this year to key players. I think they end up benefiting the most from the shutdown. They were 3-6-6 in their last 15 prior to stopping. They likely end up missing the playoffs if not for the Rona.

Cassidy is just a case of acknowledging the coach of the best team in the league. I think he’s a fantastic coach, top 2-3 in the league. But when you coach a team that is expected to be good, the coach rarely wins these types of awards. Like Belichick only have 3 coach of the year awards in the NFL and none since 2010.

Tortorella has had a fascinating career. Tons of success early then it seemed like he really struggled to adapt to the NHL game changing in the middle of his career. He looked like a dinosaur who was going to be too stubborn to change but he's shown a lot more flexibility the past few years and has been successful doing so.

Yeah, It's going to be a guessing game when players miss practice since the teams can't say why. Cassidy said that at this point he's not planning on playing the round robin without them, so we have to take him at his word with that.

Reading between the lines, It has to be something Covid related. They're both Czech and while I have no idea if they physically traveled with each other, their updates have been in tandem. They missed Monday' and Tuesday because of travel quarantine issues. Skated Wednesday, both shut down on Thursday. They could've tested positive, could be some contact tracing they found out about. It'd be a pretty big coincidence if they happened to get hurt at the same time.

The silver lining with respect to Pasta is that at this point he could roll out of bed after a winter of hibernation and the perfection line could still rack up points. It's a serious advantage in the early going of any restart in my mind.

Here's where we are today as week 2 begins.

Marchand - Bergeron - Bjork
DeBrusk - Krejci - Kuhlman
Kuraly - Coyle - Ritchie
Nordstrom - Lindholm - Senyshyn
Frederic - Studnicka - Carey

Chara - Zboril
Krug - Carlo
Grzelyck - Lauzon
Moore - Clifton
Vaakanainen

Rask
Halak
Vladar
Lagace

Absent, unfit to participate:: Pastrnak, Kase, McAvoy, Wagner. Pastrnak and Kase are ongoing. This is 2 missed practices in a row for Wagner. McAvoy's first absence. We're at 5 days since Pasta and Kase skated with the group.

Returned after missing on Saturday: Krejci, Coyle, Kuraly, Krug, Rask, Ritchie. Fluto said Coyle was held out on Saturday due to an inconclusive test. Not sure if that applies to the other 5 guys.

This week is going to be a shit show as they prepare to go to the bubble on 7/26. The traveling group needs to test negative 3 times, each 48 hours apart to be able to travel to the bubble on the team charter. If a player can't make the team charter to Canada there's some contingencies in place to get them there, but obviously there's additional hurdles to clear. If they have to fly commercial to join the team, then they have to quarantine for 4 days in their hotel room and test negatively all 4 days before joining being allowed to leave quarantine and join the group.

Feels like the Bruins are a little behind here, but I haven't followed other teams absences all that closely. I'm not too concerned about Pastrnak, but Kase missing time is a bummer. Would've been nice for him to maximize practice time to further integrate with the group. On the bright side, reports from camp are that Anders Bjork has been excellent. Cassidy singled him out as the best player on the ice one of the first couple of days, and obviously getting some run with 63 and 37 right now in Pasta's absence.

What I worry about with Pasta is his maturity level. There's a lot of rumors about him off the ice about him that aren't particularly. He did not come back to Boston post-pandemic until the very last minute and reports are he and Kase(among other Bruins players) were seen out in the North End which is delaying them practicing with the team. For as much natural ability he has(and it's a metric ton), if he is to become what he think he can be as a player he needs to clean up some things.

Apparently Wagner had a “false” positive test over the weekend, and had played golf with McAvoy and a couple others, so was held back. He’s expecting to get his third negative today, and be back on the ice tomorrow.

Pastrnak and Kase thought that he was ok to skate with groups of people ahead of training camp. They skated a couple of times with some college guys over at the rink in Malden. They also played some roller hockey in Charlestown on Wednesday night which is what set off some red flags with the league. He didn’t think he was doing anything wrong, which is why I believe that Cassidy was adamant in saying that he’s not being disciplined. Full disclosure, I didn’t skate with them on Wednesday (mostly because I thought my buddy was full of shit when he said Pasternak was coming down) but several guys that I play with did.

Are we post pandemic? If I was in Europe and saw all the news coming out of America, I would wait till the last second as well. I haven't heard anything negative about his maturity off the ice.

We'll see what today brings, but 5 of the 9 players that missed Saturday's practiced returned to the ice yesterday. Coyle's agent said Coyle was held out on Saturday due to an inconclusive test. The remaining 4 guys still out are Pastrnak and Kase, who we already knew about. Pastrnak is a contact tracing issue and he tested negative last week. No official word on Kase but I'm assuming he's in the same boat as Pastrnak because they appear to have been traveling together.

Our resident Wagner insider says that Wagner is hopefully a false positive and should be back today pending a 3rd consecutive negative test.. He had played golf with McAvoy and others which could be explain some of the other absences.

It's crazy how a seemingly innocuous activity like golf could have potentially screwed up their chances at winning a Cup.

So is the rule that you can't play unless your test was negative for that day?

If so, the whole league is going to be plagued with this issue.

Eh, who are you bumping? I think the 3 finalist are the right call. Draisaitl is having a monster year and kept Edmonton afloat when McDavid was out. MacKinnon carrying an injury decimated Avs team to a top seed in the West. Panarin was single handily dragging a lousy Rangers team to the playoffs. I don't really think Pasta has much of an argument over these 3. No biggie, Pasta takes home a share of the Rocket and the Conn Smythe.

Anyways, here was today's practice lineup:

Marchand - Bergeron - Bjork/Studnicka
DeBrusk - Krjeci - Kuhlman/Blidh
Kuraly - Coyle - Ritchie/Senyshyn
Frederic/Carey - Lindholm - Wagner

Chara - Clifton/Vaakanainen
Krug - Carlo
Grzelyck - Lauzon
Moore - Zboril

Wagner returned after missing 2. Nordstrom was a new absentee, joining Pastrnak, Kase and McAvoy.

Tomorrow is a maintenance day so nothing to be alarmed at when a bunch of guys are missing. Cassidy says they're aiming to have the full group on Thursday, assuming all testing comes back negative and protocols are met.

My angle was best goal scorer in the league this season also on the best team should have gotten him into the top 3 at least over Panarin. I get all 3 deserve to be there. Just disappointed Pasta got snubbed.

How did Nichushkin not make the cut? He's better than that Draisaitl guy. ;)
What's the joke I'm missing here?

I can assure you that other players in the league continue to play golf. Golf is pretty socially distant by it's nature. I don't think it's going to impact anyone's ability to travel to the hub cities or screw up anyone's chances of winning a cup. . For top seeds the opening round is basically just a bunch of scrimmages for seeding purposes that matter less than ever.

A bit concerning that still no practice for Pasta
I don't think so. Once he's "unfit" due to potential exposure he needs to test negative 3 times (72 hours apart) before he can go back. We're at 8 days today and they go to Toronto Sunday. Sounds like he's likely got 2 negatives, waiting on that third. I wish Kase's agent was as forthcoming.

To be honest, I'm not that worried about Pasta. He apparently tested negative but is in quarantine due to being close to someone who tested positive. If he can get a week of work in up in Toronto, he'll be fine. I don't think it'll take much time for to get back into a rhythm with Bergy and Marchand. Kase is a much bigger concern for me. For starters, we don't really know why he's being held out. I assume it's the same reason as Pasta since they appear to have been traveling together, but for all we know Kase was the positive that Pasta was in contact with. On ice, Kase needs to be assimilated into the group. He only got 6 games prior to the shut down and didn't develop any chemistry with anyone. This camp was an opportunity to figure out where he is comfortable and fits best. Cassidy admitted yesterday that it's possible that Kase doesn't play right out of the gate now.

Overall, I'd be a bit more worried about the state of the team and this bumpy Summer Camp if they were going into a qualifying series. The round robin give them a little extra time to get everyone going. Obviously it'd be nice to win it and get the #1 seed but I don't think it's the end of the world if it ends up being a bit of a 3-game exhibition to get everyone back up to speed.

Cassidy says that “as of now” the plan is for everyone to travel on Sunday’s charter to Toronto. Pasta, Kase, Ritchie and Carey were the 4 players that missed practice today.

Kase did not travel on the charter, and will meet join them later. Minimum of 4 days quarantine once he arrives.

Pastrnak will practice today.
