He said he didn't even want the opt out when he signed the original deal, that probably could have been easily negotiated away, but it's hard to give up a ton of prospect value and take on a huge deal like that, especially when COL ruled out the most likely destination by far, LAD, because they didn't want Arenado kicking their ass in the division year after year.
Yeah, a team would need assurances. It's hard enough, emotionally, to trade a talent like Arenado. And much more painful to a rival.

The Felix news makes me kind of sad. He was incredible for a while. He's only 33 and may be done.

Nats to sign Wellington Castillo

Nationals To Sign Welington Castillo
The Nationals have a deal in place with backstop Welington Castillo, per reports from MLB.com's Mark Feinsand (via Twitter) and …
www.mlbtraderumors.com

Castillo will join a catching mix that already includes two MLB fixtures in Kurt Suzuki and Yan Gomes, both of whom are playing on guaranteed contracts. The former has dealt with some health issues, but all indications are that the pairing will be available at the outset of the season.

Accordingly, Castillo will have a hard time cracking the Nats’ 26-man roster unless an injury arises or the club decides to carry three backstops. It’s certainly possible he could look to catch on elsewhere if he turns in a solid spring but can’t get a look in D.C. Alternatively, Castillo could end up as depth at Triple-A.

So Aristides Aquino goes to the bench or AAA? The guy was the best reason to watch that team last year. They aren't benching Senzel and I wouldn't think they spent money on Akiyama to bench him either. And Winker wasn't bad either. Sometimes I think teams just don't think things through.

Rotoworld says Senzel being shopped. Lindor?

First big move of the Cherington era in Pittsburgh, if I'm not mistaken, and it's a trade with his former AGM in Boston

Malone and Peguero were #6 and #9 in the AZ organization per BP. Both are probably slightly higher than that in Pittsburgh's org.

Seems like a nice haul for Pittsburgh… it's hard to count on 19-year-olds but both these kids sound more prospect than suspect. I was hoping Cleveland might be in on Marte (shift him to left and they'd have a great defensive outfield in addition to adding a bat they desperately need), and it's easy to imagine hypotheticals because the Indians are deep in toolsy teenagers – the equivalent would be Ethan Hankins and George Valera or Brayan Rocchio – but I don't think I'd be comfortable giving up that much potential for a guy who relies a lot on speed but is now in his thirties.

Rockies fans really really hate their owner, today is a good example of why. He not only said this in an interview today, he went out of his way to try to make this point to cheer up his furious fan base:

Eh my experience living in Denver was that nobody really cared about the Rockies anyway. They are the 4th most popular team in that metro area. They actually have some great ticket deals that make gong to Rockies games pretty affordable which buys the owner some slack.

I travel to Denver often. I can confirm that the ticket deals are really good. I really really like the park as well. But yeah that team should really have fielded a consistent winner by now. Imagine if the Cubs and Rockies swapped Arenado and Kris Bryant? Bryant may hit 75 bombs in Coors.
