Not just kind of, complete bull shit. The only thing that might have made sense is to let him walk out to the plate, and then make the substitution like you sometimes see with pitchers, so that he can get a standing ovation.
He said Snitker knew and he was the reason he came back to play this season. I don't think Snitker was being an a-hole, I'm sure everything was copacetic.

McCann came out in the ninth inning of Game 5 and shared a moment with manager Brian Snitker, who knew the backstop growing up in the organization and was aware of his looming retirement.

“I’ve known Snit for a long, long time,” McCann said. “He was my Double-A manager. To get a chance to do this with him, this is something I’ll always remember.”

Padres pitcher, Jacob Nix, was drunk and tried to enter a house that wasn't his, through a doggy door., got himself tased and kicked
He thought it was his house and he normally goes through the front door and knows he doesn't have a doggy door on his property, but to his drunk-ass mind, it seemed appropriate

If you remember, Nix was the one that got fucked by the Astros after Brady Aiken didn't sign in 2014

This is why you don't get blackout drunk kids.
Also with him was Minor League pitcher, Tom Cosgrove

Has he ever managed before? Can’t imagine anyone would touch him with a ten foot pole

Blood clot was the cause of death

Had knee surgery earlier last week

https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/27888900/eric-cooper-mlb-umpire-21-years-dies-52
I wonder if he flew too soon after the surgery? The article doesn't say where he was operated on, but that he was recuperating in Iowa. I know wrestler Chris Candido died from complications that arose following routine surgery because he ignored doctors' orders and flew almost immediately after getting released from the hospital and wound up having blood clots as well, which ended up leading to his death.

Very sad, though.

Kris Bryant’s is fighting for one day of service time from his 2015 season. He (famously) currently has 4.171 years of service time instead of 5.000 because he had to field a few grounders in the minors before he was ready for promotion, which would make him a FA after the 2020 season. Hearing will be held this offseason.

Closers Aroldis Chapman of the New York Yankees and Josh Hader of the Milwaukee Brewers were named relievers of the year on Saturday.
Hader won the National League award, which is named for Trevor Hoffman, for the second straight season, and Chapman earned the American League award, named for Mariano Rivera. Both Hall of Famers were on the panel that voted for the awards, along with former relievers Dennis Eckersley, Rollie Fingers, Lee Smith, John Franco and Billy Wagner.

Chapman and Hader ... fine upstanding citizens with impeccable backgrounds

They also each blew the game that eliminated their teams from the playoffs. So even if they weren't shitty people, their on field performance was weakest when it mattered most.

I notice Goose Gossage is absent from the panel. If he was on it they would probably just release a statement every year berating today's relievers and leave the awards vacant.

One shot a hole in the wall after someone separated him from his girlfriend before something really bad happened; the other one made a couple horrendous tweets when he was 16 years old.

But yeah, let’s lump them together.

Because of deferred money, the present value is only about $88 million.
Yeah, I saw that later, no one does deferred money like NatsTown. Rendon supposedly recently turned down 7/210 from them but who knows what that means in NatsBucks?

So, he did opt out and got a 3 year deal to replace it. That makes a lot more sense than just sticking with the 2 year contract he had left.

yea i think it would have been difficult for him to get anything much larger than that with a QO attached. Im not terribly sure how the draft pick stuff works with that, would the team signing him give up a high draft pick while the yankees only get a 4th rounder? or is it a direct swap, team gives up 4th round pick that they give to the yanks?

It’s what happened. He had an opt out, he didn’t opt out and negotiate with other teams. The Yankees gave him a one year extension because they didn’t want him to opt out. It’s not semantics it’s exactly what fucking happened.
