I don’t know if anyone is watching, but Brentford is back to doing what Brentford does. They’re 2-0 up and just hit the near post. When they control the ball they are incisive. Swansea has managed to settle it back down to a game, but the Bees Can score in bunches with that scary front line.

Having them and Leeds will be two of the better additions to the PL in recent years.

Brentford look to be in control of this tie. Three goals to the good, 3-1 on aggregate. Plenty time for Swansea to get back into it but they're not quite at it. Brentford in the EPL would be cool. Lose a Bournemouth - gain a Brentford.

Not sure if this is the right thread for it, but the SF 49ers' ownership wants to increase its stake in Leeds United:

As a lifelong 49ers fan, I have mixed feelings about this. The York family has a very mixed record as owners. They have fielded some competitive teams and have generally been willing to spend money. But they have also made some terrible hiring decisions (Nolan, Singletary, Baalke over Harbaugh, Tomsula, Chip Kelly). They built a badly needed new stadium, but they built it 40 miles away from the old one and then priced out a lot of their longtime fans. For a long time management also had a terrible reputation for leaking to the press, although that has mostly ended since Baalke left and Shanahan/Lynch took over.

Interesting. My first impression was that they were trying to cash in on recent success, but their commitment is perhaps a bit deeper. Certainly Leeds will need a bit more cash to compete at this next level; I just hope they proceed in a measured way, in light of past transgressions.
I came here, though, to read or post about poor Wednesday, who have been docked 12 points, not for this past season (which would mean relegation to League One), but for the upcoming one. Apparently, Charlton is prepared to sue, as they would avoid relegation themselves if the penalty was applied now.
No doubt fun times await. Good luck DH, as your season of pain continues.

I’ll take -12 and in the Championship.

Everything I’ve seen has Bielsa saying he’d rather stick with the squad he has now with a few additions- probably a good move. I hope Brentford wins Tuesday and does the same.

Recent history is that clubs who have stuck with the XIs that got them promoted can do well without spending on a bunch of new acquisitions. Thinking of Wolves and SHU. Championship is so tough that these teams that have run the gauntlet to win a promotion have forged an identity and cohesion both tactically and emotionally. These sides are much more than the sum of their parts. Contrast Fulham who spent big on a bunch of new guys who never meshed snd went right back down.

Bet these guys who won promotion together will look back on that year and that team as the best year of their careers even if they go on to “bigger” trophies. That’s got to be such an exhilarating feeling.

Ok, so you're saying Patrick Bamford should lead the line next year?
No, although he does a job. That’s an area you strengthen. You need to splash some loot on Ben White or get a replacement. You can upgrade on Alioski and Dallas...they’ve both peaked already imo...good squad players but not PL XI.

You guys are going to be fine. West Brom will struggle I’d guess, and I think Brentford would do better than Fulham. But I don’t feel that strongly. You guys are going to finish top half.

Wow, thanks for the vote of confidence. I wish I saw it that way!
Don't worry. I'll stop hanging around here soon.

Watching on ESPN+.

Pulling hard for Brentford. Great story. Fulham is meh despite their great park. Plus PL needs more (any) purple kits.

Wigan lost their appeal, so have to think all their best players are on the way out this window.

That's a shame. I feel for the little kids in Wigan kits who are in tears.

(Not kidding - I was a Whalers fan as a little boy).

Still nil-nil at the second half drinks break. Some better moments from Brentford but a real football game hasn't really broken out yet.

0-0 AET and penalties would not surprise.

The announcers are saying it's sensational....but isn't that just awful goalkeeping?

Not sure how that free kick went in.

Mitrovic should have been sent off just before. Hands around dudes throat and pushed him to the ground. Yellow should have been red.

So as if it wasn't bad enought watching Michael Hector (Wednesday's POTY last season) dominate the game, while seeing Josh Onomah (ex-failed Wednesday loanee) effectively lead the line, apparently Stuart Grey (Ex-Wednesday manager dropped controversally) designed the free kick.

I would really love to hear a professional goal keeper's explanation of this goal. I'm really curious to hear what cues and rules led the keeper to be so flat footed and out of position.
People on Twitter are also speculating that the Mitrovic antics caused a distraction to increase the chances Raya would be out of position since he was causing a scene on the other side of the pitch. Could it all have been one mad genius plan?

It is not as frustrating as a nonsense handball penalty in the first minute of the Champion's League final, but what a bizarre and horrible way to lose an incredibly important match.

So so brutal not just to lose like that, but this game in particular. Hard to watch.

I'll write more in the next thread, but Brentford is going to get picked clean...for their sake I hope their recruitment and development strategies continue to be as successful.

In the ESPN post match interview Bryan said the Free Kick was something they worked on all week.

Mitrovic looks like he's at about 60%. Can't run at all.

Nice pull, this is the exact number that Mitrovic himself said he was at with the bad hammy.
