Surprisingly big addition to an already loaded ball club. What a great October. Went out defending the wall, as well. From the boston.com article:

“That’s such a joke to us,” he said. “When it came out we were all kind of joking about it. We just want this to pass us. We won it fair and square. Whatever they accused us of, we were all kind of like, ‘I can’t believe this is even an issue.’ Once the report comes out we’re all going to be free.

Sad to see him have to bow out after the lost season last year, but given what he brought in 2018, he'll always be remembered for that as his final act.

Class all the way.

Thank you, Steve Pearce, for making your last stay with AL East team to be the best one ever and for all that you brought and gave us.

For whatever reason, he had their number in post-season '18. Produced a thrill a minute. "The funnest year of my life."---accepting MVP

For whatever reason? Veiled shot at cheating allegations? Yuck.

Steve Pearce is a World Series hero. Basically put the contest in the bag with three consecutive plate appearances. On the road. Two of those plate appearances came without a runner on base. Maybe I'm sensitive to the cheating crap, but come on. Steve Pearce deserves to be remembered as the journey-man who made it happen for the team he rooted for growing up.

Save the shade for another day. If I was overly sensitive, I apologize but Mr. Pearce will always be a WS hero to me.

I’m pretty sure ITP wasn’t throwing shade.

Dude might have saved the ALDS with that stretch for Nunez's throw. Then he became Superman in the World Series. I also remember the 3-homer game against the Yankees that year. On top of everything else, it was so nice to see him succeed so hugely with his childhood team. Thanks, Steve Pearce.

That NEVER OCCURRED TO ME.
Don't put words in my mouth. I loved him. I just meant that he had a peak at that time, and it was glorious. Sometimes people rise to the occasion.
OK, I didn't mean to ruffle feathers. I pre-emptively apologized for being too sensitive on that front so it was an unnecessary comment. I apologize for misreading. "Ignore my static" as it were.

Pearce is one of the great examples of how overhyped the annual "trade deadline" drama is. By that I mean all of the attention paid and importance given to making a move (or two) at the deadline for an impact player in order to put the team over the top. There's the weeks of frenzy watching and waiting and debating who the team might get and the panic induced by not getting THE GUY. Then more often than not, somebody else steps up unexpectedly to make a difference that THE GUY probably wouldn't have made. Pearce was the epitome of that.

He was an under the radar acquisition a month before the deadline, picked up to upgrade the bench that lacked a RHH 1B after Hanley was released. Moreland started every game but three in the four weeks between Hanley's DFA and Pearce's arrival (Travis, Holt, and Swihart got those starts). I don't think anyone was thinking at the time that they were getting a guy who was going to have such an impact in the post-season.

Pearce definitely fits in the category of unlikely post-season/WS heroes, joining such unlikely luminaries as:
  • Salvador Perez, 2014, KC
  • David Freese, 2011, STL
  • David Eckstein, 2006, STL
  • Pat Borders, 1992, TOR
  • Bucky Dent, 1978, NYY (and add Brian Doyle to that year as well)

The cradle of the game.
Dude comes out of nowhere to become WS MVP. This is the sort of stuff that Sox fans of a certain age would have never dreamed of in the past.

Happy trails, #25

And he grew up a Sox fan (dad from Rehoboth) and played in the Cape Cod League. A script like that would have been thrown out for being too farfetched to even be a popcorn movie.

Yeah. Remember when Cliff Floyd was THE GUY and we got him?

We still missed the playoffs that year.

For that to work, you're going to have to either get an "AL East" jersey, or something that mashes all the teams together somehow.

I look forward to seeing it though.
So, I'm thinking home whites, with red pinstripes & an Oriole on one sleeve, Bluejay on the other. Wish Toronto had a logo that didn't suck...

Compared to their old logo updates through the late 90's early 2000's, that logo is awesome

And for me, near the top of the 2nd tier, below the first tier ones like the Red Sox
