No idea what the score will be, but hard not to like DJ
I’d put my money on Rose personally. He was favorite coming in and nothing he’s done so far has dissuaded me from that.

I’m rooting for Koepka for selfish/fantasy reasons.

The 1963 Open at Brookline, played in high winds, featured a winning score of 293, nine over par. It was a memorable tournament. I think this one will be remembered, too, mostly because the USGA admitted it screwed up and misjudged the wind conditions for Round 3. It will also be remembered for Phil's disgraceful fit of temper.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1963_U.S._Open_(golf)
In fairness, in 1963, the winning score at the Masters was -2 (Nicklaus) and only 2 golfers were under par, the PGA was -5 (Nicklaus), and only 4 guys were under par, and the British was -3 (Bob Charles) and only 3 golfers (including Nicklaus at -2) were under Par.

+9 being the winning score in that era at the US Open would be like -5 or -6 winning in this one, not +5 or whatever they are going to end up at today. Even the best golfer in history was having trouble being under par over 4 rounds in 1963.

USGA screwed this up. The players don’t complain because a course is hard, they complain when it crosses the line and they aren’t rewarded for good shots. You hit it 15 feet from the pin you shouldn’t have to be focused on how not to 4 putt. No one is looking for a course where the winning score is -20. But today, when the leaders make the turn to the back nine, the guy who shoots +1 from there probably wins. Not exactly what you want to see.
Someone shooting a +1 on the back nine to win the US Open seems like it would be extremely appropriate. It’s the US Open it’s supposed to be hard.

I think you need to qualify that statement with something like....
“the guy who shoots a +1 from there because his good shots don’t randomly incur as much bad luck as everyone else’s good shots probably wins. Not exactly what you want to see.”

Random luck is bad. A hard, but fair US open course is awesome

deep inside Guido territory
Just was told that USGA came in earlier before the tourney and said the fairways were too wide. They took out chunks of fairway and brought it to a sod farm in NJ. Replaced the edges of fairways with more rough.

You're writing Koepka off way too easily
I think he's talking about yesterday (and the first two rounds) more than today. DJ had 38 putts yesterday. The most in his career in a PGA event. If he just had a normal day with something like 28 putts, he'd have a 10 shot lead to start the day. He had 26 and 27 in the 1st two rounds.

Fleetwood is going to post a score, and it's going to become a war of attrition to see if someone can beat it.

It will be hilarious if someone wins with a 62 final round after how the first 3 rounds went

Kind of Amazing Fleetwood is not getting every shot live coverage at this point, as he might be the favorite at the moment, as well as having the open scoring record in sighte

This is a nightmare. If Fleetwood gets another one and gets in at +1, if the winds pick up, and the greens bake some more, there might be 1 guy out there that doesn't shoot himself out of contention halfway through the back 9. Worst possible outcome is Fleetwood gets in, and everyone else falls apart, and the whole thing is over with a bunch of holes left to play.
