I wonder if the troubles for the National and Houston combined with the fact they want to move to 3 events for the playoffs mean the TPC Norton event moves to a different date on the calendar.Sounds like more big changes to the 2019 schedule. In addition to what we already know (PGA Championship in May, Players back to March) it sounds like Firestone is done and the WGC event is moving to Memphis. Also the National event and the Houston open are still without sponsors and may be casualties.
The dates for the TPC Boston event are changing, at the very least, as they want the FedEx Cup to end before the football season startsI hope not, that's always on a great weekend (Labor day, Monday finish) and since its the playoffs the field is always really strong.
As a patron, I’d actually prefer this. Labor Day weekend is usually tough to get out due to various things going on, but on a random weekend in the summer it’d be an awesome way to spend a day. There have been rumors that the Norton event is on the chopping block due to the desire to finish the playoffs before football season as well as Dell’s sponsorship expiring after this year. The TW Foundation no longer hosts as well, the Tour is ran it last year and will do so again this year.
Hope they find a way to work it in, even if it means moving it to another part of the schedule. Sometime around the Travelers would be the most logical spot logistically. If National goes, they could slide Norton into that spot.
Shinnecock is so, SO good. I'm drooling at the thought of it...my ranking of US Open venues in terms of courses I've played and/or I enjoy watching the pros play in US Open conditions looks something like this:Drove through Shinnecock yesterday afternoon. The course looks in decent shape for early April in NY but the greens still have a ways to go to be ready. The 18th green is still covered from the winter as the course is completely closed. The USGA already has their tents set up all over the course. Looking forward to being there most of the week.
Allow PLENTY of time to get out there. The traffic is already going to be bad because of summer in the Hamptons. But add in US Open traffic and it's going to take forever. Sunrise Highway is the only way to get there and it's 2 lanes.I’m going to the final round at Shinnecock this year. My first time at any golf tournament. There was some great advice here for attending the Masters. What are suggestions for Shinnecock?
Wait....Golf, on TV?Fox to air 45 hours of US Open Live. There are also featured groups you can watch online on Thursday and Friday.
This is how it's done. I know the Masters will never do this. But they should.
If there's a grandstand where you can watch play on both 10 and 11, I'd plan on spending some time there early in the day - 10 is a really wild par 4 where anyone coming up short of the green can see their ball reverse down a hill for more than 50-60 yards, while 11 is arguably the best skyline par 3 in the world and one of the best short par 3s in the world, period. ("Skyline par 3" = you play the shot uphill, and all you can see behind the flag is the sky.) There are approximately 18 great holes on the course, but if you're looking for a vantage point where you can settle down for a while and just enjoy the golf rather than following the leaders on Sunday, that'd be a solid pick if there's a setup like there is at 15 and 16 at Augusta where if you're in the right spot you can watch two holes at once.I’m going to the final round at Shinnecock this year. FYI, Duval is partnered this week by Jim Furyk - that's a better-ball score - and by the looks of the scorecard, Furyk played significantly better than Duval in compiling that score.Just looking at the leaderboard today and see David Duval with a 65. Pretty good for a TV guy.
What might have been for him.
Just fell out of the elite golfers list.
Well, hell. I did not know that. Thanks. I just looked at the leaderboardFYI, Duval is partnered this week by Jim Furyk - that's a better-ball score - and by the looks of the scorecard, Furyk played significantly better than Duval in compiling that score.
I haven't been able to watch a minute of the tournament but shot tracker going hole by hole...has him missing 9 putts inside 15' yesterday, and 9 putts inside 15' thru 16 today. Maybe 1/3 of those being from the 3'-6' range.Quail Hollow playing really tough. Tiger is +2 through his first 5 today to slide below the cut line. I watched a little yesterday and his putting wasn't particularly good.
Meanwhile, just announced that Phil, Tiger, and Rickie will be paired at the Players Championship next week.
Yeah. PGA moves to May with the Fed ex cup wrapping up in August. I believe they wanted to get all of that finished before football seasonI got an email about tickets for the 2109 PGA Championship at Bethpage Black. It gives the dates as MAY 13-19, 2019.
Obviously something happened while I wasn't paying attention. Anybody have an explanation for me?
