Not super surprised with the Tobin release
Matt Tobin has been released, per source.
Means Cole Croston makes it.
The NFL is about the NFL when it comes to controlling the flow of information. Making cuts early in the will get the news out almost immediately in today's world ... an "official announcement" would be a wasted exercise.I know they don’t want guys finding out they’ve been cut on Twitter or in the media but that seems easy enough to solve just start making the cuts earlier in the day or delay the official announcement until after the 4pm deadline.
Interesting. So they only have 3 WRs???Riley McCarron waived and RB Brandon Bolden cut
They have to be actively hunting for a WRInteresting. So they only have 3 WRs???
Still around as far as I know.Did I miss word on Farrow or is he still around?
Sony Michel is back at practice but yes he's an issue all year. Rex Burkhead is ready to go. Jeremy Hill's injury turned out to be nothing much. My guess is that Farrow could make the initial roster as insurance but I don't think RB is nearly the issue that WR is.Forget WR's, how many healthy RB's do they have? Is Burkhead still alive? Jeremy Hill's injury looked kind of ugly in the third preseason game. Sony Michel still isn't practicing. Who am I missing other than James White? Bolden, Webb and Gillislee all cut.
God, I miss Dion Lewis.
That makes me feel better. I didn't realize Burkhead and Hill were both healthy. I just have trouble getting worked up about wide receiver. They'll figure out a way to make it work Hogan and Dorsett, Gronk, and probably put Burkhead in the slot, and White coming out of the backfield. An injury or two could certainly become an issue, but those 5 guys can get us to week 5 when Edelman gets back. It's not like it's the first time Belichick, the GM, has basically given Tom a pile of shit on the outside.Sony Michel is back at practice but yes he's an issue all year. Rex Burkhead is ready to go. Jeremy Hill's injury turned out to be nothing much. My guess is that Farrow could make the initial roster as insurance but I don't think RB is nearly the issue that WR is.
scratch thatMy WAG is McCarron. QB in HS
So Croston, and maybe Farrow? From @dougkyed:
“At least two of these players will make the Patriots' initial 53-man roster: RB Kenneth Farrow, FB Henry Poggi, OL Cole Croston, OL James Ferentz, OL Brian Schwenke, DE Trent Harris, LB Christian Sam.”
So, revisiting:I have us at 58.
My bubble guys are:
Crossen - reportedly safe
Croston - likely safe with Tobin gone
Farrow
Ferentz
T.Harris
Hill - should be safe
King - should be safe as core ST
Poggi
Roberts
Sam - 6th rounder likely makes it
Schwenke
Of the others, keep either Roberts or one of the OL?
Am I missing anyone?
Edit: good point on Farrow. Bet he sticks for now.
That’s my guess as well.Apparently there's 52 players on the roster. We'll see if that is filled by a WR.
I think that they know he’s not going anywhere else and needed the spot to carry someone who they didn’t want to waive.Remind me again why we keep cutting and re-signing Bolden instead of just keeping him in the first place?
I think they are trying to trade picks for players and need the roster spots. But since they only kept 52 why even take the small risk?
There is also obviously a handshake deal with Bolden. He doesn’t make large dollars so sure there is a risk that someone offers him more than what the Pats want to pay him but they one may feel comfortable matching a higher offer up to a certain point and two consider him a valuable part of the roster but not to the point where losing him to an offer they won’t match would be a big issue. Bolden also by all reports loves it here, has a great deal of gratitude for the pats giving him a chance to make an nfl career and has put down some family roots. So sure there is a risk but they see it as an acceptable oneBut since they only kept 52 why even take the small risk?
WR problem solved!
New England claimed two receivers: ex-Jet Chad Hansen, and ex-Seahawk Amara Darboh.
Not a bad PS group. Some potential contributors there.Etling, Webb, Valentine, Langi, Croston among others to practice squad
Nice group they have down there

Riley McCarron sticking around on the P-Squad too.Not a bad PS group. Some potential contributors there.
