I suppose we should throw in here that the Reds still have an interim manager

Who else do folks think are on the hot seat? Perhaps Kapler in Philly? He is both fairly unorthodox and wheels kind of came off for them in the second half as they faded from playoff contention hard, but then again they were not really expected to compete quite yet this year, and he is new and should get another chance I think/hope. Maybe Callaway with the Mets, or Scott Servais - he's led the Mariners to 3 "close but no cigar" campaigns, and each season they seem to be strong early and fade mid-season, so I could see them moving on from him perhaps....

Whoops - I didn't mention Buck, since I guess it was somewhat of a foregone conclusion that he would get canned.... couldn't have happened to a nicer guy!

I don't think Kapler is on the hot seat at all. That team overachieved this season. I think Callaway is safe too. He fits their number one criterion for a manager--he's cheap.
The guy I wonder about is Martinez with the Nats. He strikes me as a guy who could be one and done.

I think they actually like Martinez and will stick with him - the team was really hampered by injuries, especially out of the gate, and never recovered very much from their slow start. The Nats have been criticized for their frugalness with managers, and for giving up on them too quick. Martinez is much younger (and cheaper) than previous guys, so I think they will keep him but you never know, it was a tough season and it is very frustrating seeing Atlanta win the Division with a rather pedestrian record, no doubt....

Orioles become a playoff contender next year, if not a World Series winner? That's typically what happens the year after Buck leaves a team, no?

Didn't work for Texas when they fired Buck after the 2006 season - it took a few years into the Ron Washington era to seriously contend.

The O's should hire Ron Washington.
