Kirk Cousins left $90 million guaranteed from Jets on table to accept Vikings' offer

On March 12, the day the “legal tampering” window opens, Cousins is on the phone with McCartney again. When he hangs up, he tells his wife, Julie, that the Jets have upped their offer: three years, $30 million per year, fully guaranteed.

Her eyes wide, Julie says, “Whoa.”

At the time, the Vikings were at $25 million per year. With the increased offer from New York, Kirk explains to Julie, McCartney can go back to Minnesota to get them to close that gap.

They should have sweetened the deal with some cupcakes.

Jets named Sam Darnold the starting QB to no one's surprise. He will be the youngest QB to ever be named a team's opening day starter.
This was the worst kept secret of the preseason. I got Darnold last week at 10-1 for NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. Loving the value here as guys like Mayfield and Allen, with lesser odds, won't even be taking snaps Week One. I never root for injuries but if Barkley is pestered by his hammy all season I won't be losing any sleep over it.

I just found this gem of a story of the first ever Pats-Jets (Titans of NY) game, seems like they where in full Jets mode from the start.

The following week New York played another home game, against the Boston Patriots. On the first of many occasions when the team would lose a game after taking a big lead, the Titans were ahead 24–7 in the second half. With the lead reduced to 24–21, the Titans punted from deep in their own territory with seconds left. The punter, Rick Sapienza, fumbled the snap, and the Patriots recovered in the end zone for the victory.
I had not known that they started as the Titans of NY, a co-worker's dad has a friend who played on the Titans and was showing me a copy of his contract

And for silly, Jets-y reasons:
the Jets have always been second bananas, and the franchise has been dogged by an inferiority complex for its entire existence. Hell, its first owner, Harry Wismer, decided upon the team’s first name — the Titans — because he had a size obsession with the crosstown rival Giants. “Titans are bigger and stronger than Giants,” Wismer insisted.

The Jets look like a legitimately good team. I was dismissive of the idea that they could trade with the Steelers for Bell, but now I can see the attraction.

They also said after the game they were reading Stafford’s signals and knew what was coming pre-snap.

I agree that they looked a lot better than I had expected, however let’s see how they look when they don’t have 6 months to prepare for a team that apparently changed nothing in the offseason.

You could see that during the game. It reminded me of the SB with the Bucs knowing the Raiders playbook

Who’s gonna save Darnold. They have to fire Bowles.

Edit: remember back in like 2015 or 2016 or whenever it was SoSH thought Bowles was a competent coach? LOL

9 games at a really bad level. 14 picks. Abysmal completion %. Passing is easy in the NFL.
I'm not suggesting he's playing at a high level, I'm saying maybe pump the brakes a bit on calling the kid a bust after 9 games on a shit team with no weapons and can't even snap the ball. It very well may turn out to be true and the roster/organization may contribute to it, but it's still pretty early. I love Jets schadenfreude as much as the next guy, but give him a chance.

Edit: if you look at his game logs instead of overall stats, it's about 40/60 for shit performances and good ones. He certainly didn't look abysmal against the Colts, Dolphins or Lions.

I’m not sure what a rookie QB is supposed to do with this kind of supporting cast.

Jets down 14-0 to the Bills...

If they don't win this game I bet Bowles is fired at their Bye week

Jets have the third pick in this years draft. Knowing how teams are the Jets might have a decent opportunity to get a nice haul for the pick so the other team can take Haskins.

If they find anyone willing to overpay to get Haskins at 3 they should take them to the cleaners and sell them a bridge.
