Not sure if this is a serious question or not, but in one of the Patriot books or films or something, proper huddle alignment and breaking the huddle is like the first thing in the Patriots offensive playbook. QBs have to learn all that before they can even call a play.
The question is "How do you fuck that up as the QB?" You basically clap and then walk forward a few steps to either the shotgun position or a few steps more to line up directly behind the center.

Per the NFL?

According to the Jets, he's having disc surgery that will keep him out 6-9 months so yes he's out for the year.

Yes. Earlier you posted "Not necessarily out for the year" and I was simply saying that yes, he is.

There are some nuances to an offensive huddle. The players huddle in specific spots based on the position that they are in for that play. The QB is responsible for making sure the players are where they need to be in the huddle, and calling the play the specific way that the OC has specified in the playbook. Then they break the huddle a specific way. Some teams can be a bit, uh, weird about how they break the huddle.
With all that said, I am guessing that the coaches were looking at that as more of an attention to detail thing. Hackenberg needs to be following the playbook as closely as anyone else on the team. It also could have been something that they just recently threw in the playbook to see who was paying attention and studying the playbook.

Well if he had an issue that wouldn't keep him out for the year he could come back even if put on IR. Now we know he's not coming back.
I 100% get that. My only point was that when you responded that he maybe wasn't out for the year multiple sources had already said he was. That's all.

Moving on--Jets suck.

I've watched the Jets preseason game 2x. It went way better than I expected. The O is a big problem but the D is a big solution. We will see what happens when it counts but they were balling out there.

Hackenberg looked ok. Nothing amazing but he ran the offense. Drops killed them and the WR picture isn't pretty w/o Enunwa but Robby Anderson can fly. Tough to believe a guy like that went undrafted.

I'm going to laugh so hard if the jets obvious tanking for Darnold backfires and he either
A: stays at USC For Another year

Or
B: Tells the jets that he won't play for them.

@RapSheet
Final trade terms for the #Jets and #Seahawks: NYJ gets WR Jermaine Kearse, a 2nd and a 7th. SEA gets Sheldon Richardson & a 7th.

I really like this deal for the Jets. They are too loaded at the DL, we all know about Richardson's mouth that's as talented as his skills on the field, and is looking for a big pay day going into his contract year.

Thoughts on Christian being third on the depth chart, behind Petty? Implications of this?

The guy the Jets are allegedly tanking for has thrown 8 picks in 5 games. Oh and he plays QB for USC. What could possibly go wrong??

Really enjoying the front row seat I'm getting for the "let's play juuuuuuust well enough to NOT land one of the top QBs in the 2018 draft" melodrama beginning to play out here in NYC.

If it makes you feel any better, it looks like one of those top college QBs may be headed to NYC, only he might be wearing a blue jersey next season rather than a green one.
Yep - Giants get a new QB will be the first move. Can't wait for the next domino: Eli to NYJ to finish off his "illustrious" career. That'll truly be the torch passing!

It is an indication of the horrible past, but, as a Jets fan, I have to admit that this is one of the most likable teams in recent memory. They are not obviously as talented as other teams, but I thought that their post game reactions after a tough loss were pretty encouraging

Can I get some perspective from a Jets fan?

Are you annoyed at the pace of the play from the team when they were down 10 late in the 4th quarter (even before the "touchdown/back")? It didn't seem like there was any urgency from them to get plays off quickly when they needed to get two scores.

Where was the hurry up? They often bled the whole play clock during plays. It was beyond bizarre.

The game plan had to be to keep Brady off the field. They had plenty of time for 2 scores

Todd Bowles is a very good coach; I hope the Jets fire him soon because if he gets some actual talent, Bowles ain't gonna waste it.

I think luckiest has it right. They had to walk the line to limit Brady possession while also trying to score. It was essentially working, but the reversal blew that up. It was a calculated risk that I didn’t have a problem with.

My biggest gripe was their last possession of 1st half. I would have rather they run down the clock and try to get into locker room up 7, especially with NE getting possession in 2d half.

Sorry, but I think this is kind of revisionist hindsight BS. To refresh your memory, the Jets had the ball inside Patriots territory with under 40 seconds left at that point. Specifically, it was 2nd and 12, with 39 seconds left. The reason it was 2nd and 12 was because on 1st down, the Jets completed a 9 yard pass but were penalized for illegal hands to the face, making it 1st and 20. They then completed a pass to the NE 49 to make it 2nd and 12. So it was 2nd and 12, 39 seconds left, at the 49, with 1 timeout left. You are honestly saying you wanted the Jets to sit on the ball in this situation, when they only needed 10-15 yards for a FG try to go for a two score lead, with the Patriots getting the ball back to start the half? If they had taken a knee there you would have been ripshit. Or at least, I would have been if it was my team.

If there is blame to be placed, it is on the D for letting the Pats go 63 yards in 26 seconds.

Agreed. His utter professionalism is such a refreshing contrast to Rex's buffoonery. He's a good coach doing well in a situation that was expected to be disastrous before the season.

I think Bowles was thinking that a FG there is a big deal, giving them momentum and a two score lead during his locker room talk. Being aggressive in that situation shows "confidence" in the team, whereas the kneel down might give the opposite impression.

I see why he did it, and that it didn't work out is probably more a function of the player performance than the coaching strategy.

Plus, Bowles has a very easy to hate smirk, which mid way through the 2nd quarter was really getting under my skin. If he wins 6 games with this roster, he should win coach of the year.

The Jets got the ball at the 37 with 1:07 left. They were inside NE territory when they threw the interception. That drive represented a very good opportunity to score points as the Jets were likely to start most drives in worse field position. The Pats previous two possessions were TD/Missed FG. The Pats following three possessions were TD/TD/FG inside the 10. So 14 points probably was not going to win the game. I dont think giving up a chance to score points would have been a very sound strategy.

That was not a coaching mistake, that was a player mistake. I have learned a lot about McCown and why he is who he is these past 6 weeks. He has talent, he should have been a decent QB in the NFL, he has a very active self sabotage streak.

Most definitely not revisionist hindsight BS. It's being a Jets fan for 30 years. I would've been ripshit if my team had Tom Brady as QB. The Jets do not, and never have, since Joe Namath. I didn't want them to take a knee, BTW...I would've been happy if they just played field position with running game.

We, the fans, carry that baggage. I don't want the players or coaches to ever think that way.

This is just about the best move Mac could have made under the circumstances.

McCown throws 1.2 TD/GM as well as 1.2 INT/GM. This is a certain upgrade over Fitz, who killed the Jets over and over again with 0.86 TD/GM while allowing 1.2 INT/GM.

The only questions is whether the OL can keep him healthy for any length of time.
I wrote this back in March. He's been even better than I thought.

Is it that hard for you to remember what it was like to be a Red Sox fan pre-2004? Luckily, football has always been down on the pecking list of sports that I care about....baseball and basketball were always 1 and 1A. Until Whalers moved, hockey was next, followed by football. But I'm nowhere near as diehard as I was/am about Sox and Celtics.

Right, of course I always expected everything to go wrong pre-2004. Football is just different though, it's not as if the Sox deciding to bunt into 3 straight outs with a 1 run lead could result in the other team gaining a favorable advantage in order to score some runs the following inning.

I hear you, but the only way to win the game was to be aggressive and try to score again - not play it safe, take a knee, and hope Tom Brady isn't going to be Tom Brady in the second half.

It wasn't like the OC dialed up a series of risky plays - the pick was the result of McCown being McCown, not the play call.

Playing field position would have ended the same way - in a loss. To win, Bowles had to be aggressive, and he was. That it didn't work out is on the talent. Soon, you will have better talent. And a coach who isn't afraid of the Jets being the Jets.

Forté sucks and I hope they cut him. He cannot hit a hole. He can catch screen passes, big deal. Jets were 60/40 pass/run and that is what they gameplan to be. I thought they ran it too much on first down and every handoff to Forté is a wasted play.

Time for a thread title change?

Jets OC: We ran up the white flag

Petty started his first series with 11:33 left in the fourth quarter. Instead of throwing the ball in a hurry-up offense, Morton played it conservatively. The Jets ran the ball on eight of their remaining 12 plays, which covered three possessions. They finished with only 100 total yards, second-lowest in franchise history.

<...>
"Listen, we were behind, we didn't have a chance," Morton said. "I mean, they're just dropping back in coverage and we're just going to be throwing and forcing balls. I didn't want that. I didn't think that was fair. Call it whatever you want, I just thought that was the right decision."

"Night and day [from the Kansas City win]," Morton said. "I'm not alarmed. Listen, that was a good team. They have a good defense. We just got our butts kicked. I got outcoached, we got outplayed, bottom line. Sometimes you just have to fess up and that was the bottom line with that."

The Jets win one off the field:

https://www.sporttechie.com/new-york-jets-win-sporttechie-award-for-most-innovative-sports-team/

"At a time when demand for new technologies that improve the fan experience are at an all-time high, the New York Jets have worked hard to maintain an edge over other teams.

This season, the team began engaging fans at the stadium with real-time graphics featuring Next Gen stats collected from Zebra chips in shoulder pads and balls. The team’s expansive production team works lightning fast to visualize data collected live from plays, which then appear on video boards during games at MetLife Stadium.

Additionally, the Jets made several enhancements to their consumer-facing app in 2017, unlocking an artificially intelligent chatbot called JOAN that can answer fan questions in natural language, launching out of beta the predictive game “I Called It” that lets fans predict the outcomes of plays, and rolling out an augmented reality digital T-shirt cannon."

Other contenders were Bayern Munich, the SF 49ers, Sacramento Kings and Salt Lake Screaming Eagles
