well, they still have Bowles, who is certainly no Belichick... but he's proven capable of taking absolute chicken shit and turning it into, maybe not chicken cordon bleu, but at least 3-day old chicken salad: it'll make you (Pats fans) nervous, you won't want to eat it, but in the end probably nothing bad will happen.

If this team wins four games they should put give Todd Bowles coach of the year. What a flaming pile of excrement.

Not arguing. But those three starters on the D-Line, assuming they all play and are healthy, are pretty impressive. If they had some LBs and DBs behind them....

They only drafted DBs in the first round in 2013, 2014, and 2017... how would you expect them to be good?

That might be the worst projected offense starters I've ever seen. Their DL will be very good but will probably tune out by like Week 6 or so after they realize that none of their efforts matter.

Addition by subtraction. If the players can stay out of jail the defense should be way faster. If the QB play is simply bad and not horrific (as expected) we might get the 5 wins to get TB coach of the year.

Article on PFT saying Sam Darnold may not be leaving USC after this season.

"But Darnold still has three years of NCAA eligibility remaining, and there’s been talk that he could stay in school rather than entering the 2018 draft. That would be very bad news for any team tanking 2017 for the chance to take him, but Darnold said that he simply isn’t in a position yet to make up his mind about whether to turn pro in six months.

If Darnold does turn pro, he’ll be a strong option for whatever team finishes 2017 with the league’s worst record."

This was the first comment..

How would you distinguish the Jets losing because they were deliberately trying to lose vs the Jets losing because they were jetsing?

I know you're jesting, but the Jets are going to lose this year because they are tanking - deliberately trying to lose. The roster they've "built" is among the worst in recent memory. That they will also "J-E-T-S" it up as well does not mitigate the fact that they are tanking.

Geez, that was too many words for inserting "jesting" into the discussion.

Jetsing would be Darnold staying at USC and a draft lottery resulting from the obvious tanking. The smart play probably would be to take another from a reportedly gifted QB class, but Jets are gonna Jets.

That would mean Polian being the last guy to game this thing successfully, which would fucking figure as well.

This is going to get close scrutiny. From PFT if no one else. Especially with the New York Kensils doing the tanking.

Wasn't Polian fired after 2011 and replaced by Grigson before the Luck draft?

Polian's 2-14 2011 season, after he was fired, netted the first pick in the 2012 draft, who turned out to be Luck. There was never any doubt about the identify of the #1, #1. Grigson may as well have been the runner who turned the draft card in.

It is, of course, comical that Polian fingers the Browns as "starting re trend."

True, if you consider "success" taking Luck then a couple years later giving him a ginormous contract as his production and the team's gradually decline. Jury is still out on that one.

Please get Mangold too.

Pasting this:

David Harris had spent his entire NFL career with the New York Jets. By definition, that meant he had to hate the New England Patriots. He heard his coach Rex Ryan take shots at them. He made some of his biggest plays, including an interception of Tom Brady in a Divisional Round game, against them. His team's success or failure was often measured solely against them.

And yet, when the time came for Harris to find a new team, he didn't cross the Patriots off of the list. In fact, according to Ryan Hannable of WEEI via Wood TV, Harris jumped at the chance to take his talents to New England.

“They reached out to me and I pretty much accepted on the spot that I wanted to play there,” Harris said, via Wood TV. “Great organization. They’re the gold standard of the NFL. Why wouldn’t you want to be a part of that?”

I'm conflicted by this tweet
I would be too. On the one hand, that's an admirable level of commitment to his vocation. On the other, he is a Jet and therefore his death would be both pointless and hilariously sad were it to occur. And frankly, no one deserves to be remembered for dying in a J-E-T-S-Y manner.

The power of this thread knows no bounds. From ESPN:

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- The New York Jets have waived wide receiver Bruce Ellington after he failed his physical, a day after they claimed him off waivers from San Francisco.

The team also has announced on Saturday night that it has signed fullback Algernon Brown.

Ellington, a fourth-round draft pick by San Francisco in 2014, spent last season on injured reserve with a hamstring injury after being hurt in the preseason. He has 19 catches for 215 yards and two touchdowns in 13 NFL games.

Brown was signed by Seattle in May as an undrafted free agent out of BYU. He was waived by the Seahawks last Saturday.

Wow, who is even going to play offense for them this year? Is the corpse of Matt Forte still there? Poor guy, bet he wishes Marshall didn't convince him to go there.

Out of curiosity, how exactly does one break a huddle incorrectly?
Not sure if this is a serious question or not, but in one of the Patriot books or films or something, proper huddle alignment and breaking the huddle is like the first thing in the Patriots offensive playbook. QBs have to learn all that before they can even call a play.
