Miami too:

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2018/03/06/dolphins-owner-stephen-ross-sends-clear-message-on-national-anthem/

The dust has settled. It’s unfortunate, but the fan bases have spoken and the owners are following, and so are the players, eventually. The anthem protests were bad for business. If they weren’t, we would not have this.
Not so much the fan bases, Ross makes it perfectly clear this is a result of Trump turning this into an anti troops issue which we all know was never the case.

Is it worse for business to have a shitty team? Would that be the result if the players ignored the owners' warning and the owners started cutting/not signing the non-conformists? (I don't see the players doing that as very likely, but it's an interesting thought exercise).
This was Trump's message that started the whole thing. Parphrasing, he wanted the owners to pull the kneeling players aside and tell them "they're fired". And for a certain part of the fanbase it worked.

It is still about the fanbase though. As Ross himself said, it is about how much of the public perceives it.

No doubt. I guess I wonder what would happen if 500 Jimmy Gs or Russell Wilsons kneeled, basically saying "OK, fire me."

What always surprises me, about all the major sports in US, essentially, but most notably the NFL, is how old the refs are.
Ed Hochuli -- 67
Tony Corrente -- 66
Pete Morelli -- 66
Gene Steratore -- (a relatively young) 55

Average age of all officials, not just referees, in the NFL is 51, according to this article.

In a job that relies on fitness, agility, eyesight, and quick decision-making, it seems like age would be an issue.

That video of BB in the booth with Mayock and Eisen was terrific. BB extremely complimentary to Mayock and you could tell by the interaction after the headphones were off that he respects Mayock immensely. I grieved when the NFL pulled Mayock off the Thursday broadcasts a few seasons ago - I thought he was easily the best analyst working then.

Love Mayock as well. He and BB overlapped on NYG in early 80s.

Mayock called the Seattle-New Orleans "BeastQuake" playoff game in 2010 and he was terrific. I figured for sure he'd be a regular Sunday game analyst by now.

I thought Mayock was great, but I remember reading somewhere that certain viewers (or maybe just sports media critics not named Chad Finn) thought he talked too much, which is a little odd considering that’s pretty much the job

I remember Mad Dog complaining incredulously in 2012 or 2013 that Mayock was too fixated on breaking down the game and explaining the X's and O's on Thursday night games.

Michael Bennett traded from SEA to PHI with a 7th rounder for a 5th and another player to be named.

Edit: the other player is WR Marcus Johnson

If the Patriots want to win again, they need to measure themselves against this team, and right now, this is the Giants / Patriots dynamic all over again. Sick DL can beat Brady.

Jesus.

They probably will flip Foles too. Past couple years, their FO is boat racing the League.

I might agree with your first 15 words, but I think this is nothing like the Giants situation. Brady and the Pats set all sorts of offensive records a month ago; it was the defense that shat all over itself.

Really? You think the inability to stop Phiily's DL was the reason for that loss?

Great move by PHI if they can afford it without handcuffing themselves elsewhere, but that couldn't be more different from the NYG losses.

The larger point stands though of a very very good team getting better and adding another possible way to beat NE.

Edit: beaten to SB loss point so no need to pile on

Don’t really see it. That sick DL got absolutely torched by Brady without his top 2 WRs. Our defense is the issue, which admittedly Bennett would have helped.

Yes that’s just nuts. The Patriots destroyed this defense and had their way most of the game. Philly did not and does not have the Giants front 4. The patriots were even missing cooks and Jules.

Rumors floating around the SEA media that Sherman might be being traded to NE

It Might be that PHILLY who realizes that if not for a Hightower injury and slight tweaking of the CB situation they could still be without a SB. Seems like any rational person can look at 33 Points, 113 rushing yards against (in a game that the same offense threw the ball 49 times), 28/48 505 for 3 tds, 3 100 yard recievers and think "Our defense needs to be alot better".

No doubt great move as I doubt they can expect 350+ passing yards in playoff games in the future.

A fake Ian Rapoport twitter account posted it's Hightower and a first round pick for Sherman....if that helps

A trade makes no sense...Sherman is coming off a serious achilles injury and is owed $11M for 2018...doubt Pats would do Seattle such a favor.

Well it helps in that it eliminates you from the "posts I must see to check for updates" list

Sherman or Talib playing next to Gilmore is a big upgrade. Use Rowe until Sherman gets healthy or Talib starts week 1. He already knows the system. Bring Blount back as well.

Disappointing to see the band broken up. I think Thomas stays and the rest are gone, but what do I know.

And given the Robert Quinn trade, this is about the best they could have asked for. Bennett played most of last year with a plantar fascia injury, and I don't know how well that would heal in the offseason.

Okay, but 5th + Marcus Johnson vs 3rd + 5th means they value Marcus Johnson as equal to a 3rd. And Sea threw a n a 7th to Philly, too.

Either there’s more to the story or it’s BS. Or Sea is really, really high in Marcus Johnson. Or just really really high.

I’m told there had been trade conversations going on between
the Broncos & the 49ers for Aqib Talib. It doesn’t look like it’s going to
get done. Told Talib prefers to be released by Denver so he can chose his next team, his top choice is the New England Patriots per sources

They piled up 613 yards and 33 points - should have been 37 without kicking mistakes. They absolutely rolled Philly's defense. That wasn't the problem.

But a nice pickup by Philly. They're in beast mode. But as always, we've seen great teams rise up for a year or two before the inevitable decline hits.
