I mean, it's clearly a great signing for them and there's a real chance it makes them all but unbeatable in the playoffs. Perhaps even better than 50/50 it does if he's at all healthy. And of course, they are the heavy favorites even if he never plays a minute for them, too. Plus, they can always Belichick him if he's a problem.

All that acknowledged, their defensive system requires him to play a role, and who knows if he'll actually do it. Ditto the offense. He's a headcase, and he's never really stuck to a program as a pro. it may start now, and they may be able to work around it, and they clearly can win without him. But there is some chance he just doesn't get with the program, too.

I just find it funny---they have perhaps the most in-their-prime talent ever assembled. This is "Bill Walton as your sixth man" except also with more stars in the starting lineup deep.

Boogie can't be fully rehabbed.or else some other team would have offered substantially more. And I hope someone asks AD how he feels about Boogie's decision to bolt the Pelicans for $5.3M,

As for the Warriors, they look fantastic on paper, but let's see how this all shakes out.

If BOS was able to sign Cousins with the full MLE, nevermind the taxpayer MLE, this place would be going bonkers.
Full MLE for a rental who won't play until after the ASB who will then change how our entire offense functions without having any practice time to adapt......and he may not be very good when he returns.

I'm cool with Boogie choosing Golden State over us.

Yep. It’s just going to make Boston’s victory in the finals that much better.

Is there some psort of Deng for Carmelo deal that works for both sides?
Not without the Lakers including either Ingram or Ball. I suppose it could work as a three way deal if you had a team under the cap with enough to trade that OKC would consider taking Deng’s deal, while simultaneously returning something to LA to soften the blow.

yep. Celtics are more than fine with Baynes/Theis/Horford draining 3s and playing solid defense at the 5. Danny will sort out Smart and figure out how to not trigger the luxury tax a year earlier than necessary.

Avery Bradley staying with the Clippers:

Not a bad deal for him and can hit th market again in two years. Should be plenty of playing time with Austin Rivers out.

Sixers acquire Wilson Chandler and his contract from Denver saving the Nuggets a ton of money. It also eliminates another destination for Smart. Poor kid is getting squeezed hard

Nice depth move for Philly. Another expiring contract that preserves their 2019 space. At this point, Smart basically has to punt to 2019.

Here
So the Celtics seem to be in prime position for Kahwi if they want him. Sixers and Lakers used up their cap space although LA could stretch Deng.
Salaries have to be matched, either can still get him. Boston is over the cap, for example, but can get him easily.

At this point, Marcus Smart would probably be amenable to a S+T to SA for contract reasons. No idea if SA wants him but he seems to be cut from the cloth of a Bruce Bowen so possible Pop may value him like Boston does.

Chandler is eligible to be traded immediately as they acquired him with room so the Sixers could still make a play for Kawhi.

Doesn't really affect Philly and Kawhi. Might actually make it better for Philly trying to acquire Kawhi, gives them another combo forward on the roster in case both Saric and Covington go in a deal.

Everyone is gonna be a free agent in 2019 and a 9mm cap jump
Next year is gonna be freaking insane
Kyrie, Butler, boodie, Klay, KD but the depth is going to be silly.

I don't hate the move. Get a second and a second swap for a solid player who is moveable and doesn't impact anything long term but I feel like there will be some insane bargains but then they don't have the roster space.

On the plus side though the sixers have two firsts and 3 seconds for the 2021 draft - end of one and done expected. Which could be very very deep

deep inside Guido territory

Devin Booker and the Phoenix Suns are progressing toward finalizing a 5-year, $158M maximum contract extension as soon as the weekend, league sources tell ESPN. Suns presented the offer to Booker in Los Angeles today.

Oh I didn't know he could be traded right away. Interesting. I still think Spurs would want Boston's picks and assets rather than Philly.
Sure, but there are no indications that the Celtics have any desire to offer them.

Marcus can't accept less than this now.
I loved how Exum looked last year especially returning from all those injuries. The strength he gained served him well. If he stays healthy that is going to be a nice contract for Utah. He has another leap in him this coming season.

$31M / year for a jump shooter who can’t play defense. Nice.

To me the Jazz are the #2 team in the West right now. OKC #3, Houston #4, NO #5, LOLakers #5, pending further developments.

What? Ariza moves Houston from 65 wins to a 4 seed?
Ariza gone + Paul old + Tucker old + MCW sucks + Utah and OKC are really good + gimmicky offense that is increasingly solvable (well under 100 points in each of their last five games in the WCF) + who knows what’s happening with Capela and Mbah a Moute. If they can re-sign those two and do something good with the MLE, maybe they move up a spot or two.

I mean, the Warriors can play some defense and Chris Paul was out. Not sure I buy that.

I can see some regression from Houston though.

Can someone explain to me the Wilson Chandler trade and how it works? He's being traded for draft picks and is going to make almost $12MM next year. Why doesn't he need to be traded for a contract that matches?

Denver gets a potentially useful $12M trade exception in addition to unloading Chandler's salary. The Nuggets have one year to add players making $12M or less in a "nonsimultaneous" trade without having to send any salary back.
