Forget Smart; who has room to make an offer to Capela now?
The Kings and Bulls? Kings have Randolph, but he’s not a long-term solution obviously. Bagley is, though Bagley and Capella would make a great young tandum.

Not that we want that...

Edit - Forgot the Hawks. Lakers are a no.

Probably only the Lakers, Bulls, Kings and Hawks have enough space to even make Houston pause about matching. Philly has room too, but that's not a fit.

Kings are interested in LaVine.

Would Smart make any sense for the Lakers to go after? There aren't any other credible suitors if the Kings fill up their space.

Randolph, Bagley, WCS, Koufos, Labissierre, Giles. Think they’re more likely to chase some upside in Parker or someone like that at a position of weakness.

I don't know what the hell Indiana is doing.

It's going to be a buyers' market by tomorrow since there is so little cap space available, and they decided to use a huge chunk of theirs on McDermott and guaranteeing Bogdanovic?

Seems crazy.
agreed... absolutely idiotic move by Indiana.

Patience will pay off massively here

Lakers will need space for a third max at some point, so probably not.

What, no separate thread for my Nuggets and Barton?

I kid, I kid.

Another overpay from the Nuggets front office. I like Barton, but not at this price.

We'll save the separate thread for when they sign lebron.
They're one of my favorite teams to watch, but paying luxury tax for that roster isn't super exciting. I'm also not sold that Jokic won't get run off the floor against playoff smallball.

LA, Chicago, Philly, Atlanta, in terms of serious money. LA and Philly seem unlikely although not impossible. Chicago or Atlanta are real options.
Capela in Atlanta is sort of interesting. He'd fit well with Young.

Just turned 24, too, so is actually a much better "age fit" with a young, rebuilding team like ATL than he is with the aging Rockets. Young, Huerter, Collins, Capela could be the beginning of ... something? (NB: they did just pick up Dedmon's $7.2M, but just for one season).

The good news is they have 3 expiring deals (Faried, Chandler, Arthur) they can deal or just keep and pay the tax on. Kroenke certainly has the money.

The killer contract is Plumlee. Still don't understand why they paid that much to a bench big, especially since there didn't seem to be competition for him.

Why did Phoenix give Ariza 15 million? Does he get them into the playoffs at 34 years old, a role player?
They clearly want some vet presence and aren’t planning on being major FA players until next summer. The real question for me is how are they going to find enough minutes for Ariza, Jackson, Warren, Bridges.

At 34, does Ariza see those fewer minutes as a feature and not a bug?

GM is fighting for his job.

I don't see a huge minutes problem to be honest. You can always find minutes for athletic wings in various lineups.

I think you probably go small and put Jackson at the 4

Philadelphia is meeting with LeBron James and his reps today in Los Angeles, league sources tell ESPN.
Ugh, Lebron to Philly stinks.

With no George and no Kawhi makes chasing a ring with the 2018-19 Lakers impossible.

Maybe Lebron goes 1+1 to Philly and reaccesses Laker situation next year with Kawhi and/or Durant.

He's meeting, not signing. I mean, per twitter, he might be meeting with Denver.

Philly is still without an official GM, right? Is Brett Brown running the pitch meeting? Wonder if they offer LeBron the chance to pick his GM at the meeting (or pitch him on a reunion with Griffin).

This feels to me a lot like the Lakers aren't willing to build their roster the way LeBron wants right now, trying to sell him on this two year plan. LeBron calling that bluff, you don't want to build my way, maybe I'll just go to Philly instead.

Ball(not Lonzo) is in your court Magic.

It's not that hard to play 3 of those guys at once. Minutes shouldn't be an issue.
It is if you want to play your best offensive player in Booker and his 35 mpg as well. So, you have 13 mpg minutes at the SG, 48 at SF, and 48 at PF to split between Jackson, Ariza, Warren, Bridges, Chriss, and Bender. It’s definitely possible to split it up but I think someone in that group could be on the move. It’s a bit of a crunch.

Little reason to think Chriss gets any minutes and Bender gets more than a token amount.

Maybe now but you’re basically laying waste to 2 recent lotto picks who have averaged 20mpg in their careers and who are both still very young with still some upside. I’d try to trade at least one of them. I think Jackson spends most of his time at the 4 so there are minutes for one of Chriss/Bender. Ariza/Warren can split SF. And Booker/Bridges handle the SG spot.

They could always try to trade Warren.

A guy I know with connections to the Denver front office says they have a meeting with Lebron scheduled.

They're clearly a long shot, but apparently they already have some contingent deals on place to dump salary if needed.

The only hope is that the Lakers are no longer as appealing without George, and Lebron knows and trusts Kroenke (remember, he vacationed on his yacht a few years ago) and Malone.

So, we get news of a Lebron/Philly meeting and the ESPN Lebron guy Windhorst hasn't tweeted? What are you here for???

Magic whiffing on Paul George might have soured LeBron on LA. Fighting a loaded Western Conference with a bunch of kids and no guarantee of Kawhi probably doesn’t sound that appealing.

I don't know about the scouting reports, but Chriss took a step back in pretty much every facet of his game last year. Bender took a step forward and was still worse than Chriss.

Magic has more to offer than Philly for Kawhi, so he can pull out all the stops if need be. In fact, this is probably LeBron telling Magic to do just that.

Unless they're doing a sign and trade with Cleveland, they'd have to offload about 50M in salary to fit Lebron in at the max, and that's including Jokic at a tiny cap hold rather than his new huge salary.

I wish them a lot of luck.

I don’t think that’s at all true—Magic may be willing to give up more, but Philly has two pieces better than anything LA has. Even beyond Embiid (hard to see him dealt) and Simmons Philly may be able to match what Lakers would give from what’s left. I would guess valuations on Laker assets vary
