That was in response to Rondo (allegedly) spitting in Paul's face. I don't know what go-to move the President of the Players Association is supposed to have though in an altercation.
Punch? Slap? Spitting back? I dunno, it just seemed...weird!

I think my favorite part is Melo going over to Ingram and talking shit to him while Ingram is being held back. Classic fake tough guy move.

Ingram is supposed to be one of the calmer dudes on that Lakers squad. You know you are going loco when Lance Stephenson is coming over to tell you to calm down.

The Rondo/Paul thing, I'm on team Rondo. If Rondo spit on him then he's the bad guy, but I haven't seen any evidence of that. This whole thing started with Paul throwing a complete tantrum about Harden not getting the continuation call so he was already riled up before he started talking to Rondo.

It's Rondo...but he plays on the Lakers... with LeBron.

All I can say is that Rondo's left hook is fierce as shit. CP3's cross armed bullshit is weak. Then again, I ride or die with Rondo whereas as much as I appreciate CP3's basketball skill, he just smells of being a massive, unfaltering dickhead.

The per game fine amounts that each player is facing:

Paul - $245,891
Rondo - $62.069
Ingram - $50,107

I'm going with Paul and Rondo 2 games a piece. Ingram gets 5. Does Rondo then reach out to the President of the Players Assosciation to go to bat for him?

Somewhere
The kid just turned 19 and is putting up 24/7 in his 2nd NBA game. He’s going to be good. Obviously, the Hawks suck but he doesn’t look out of place, which most kids his age do.
Honestly, all the rookies look pretty sick so far. This is going to be a great year if they can stay healthy.

Rondo and Paul had a dustup when Paul played for the (New Orleans) Hornets and Rondo the Cs, iirc. Rondo told Paul he'd never win a ring or something along those lines; this being shortly after the Cs won in 08.

LeBron played 39 minutes and not a single foul was called on him. I didn’t watch the game but that seems . . . implausible.

The over/under lines are pretty telling of the current state. There hasn't been a single game with a total under 200 and the majority are over 210.
Only two games this season have had totals under 200 (with one at 200 exactly). Makes me think of the ABA.

The new rule setting clock back to 14 will slightly increase possessions. But I think the biggest reason is that everyone is shooting 3s and some of them from really deep. Guys are so far out on the perimeter, hard for help to arrive on time.

If this keeps up, this season will have 11th highest scoring in NBA history, highest this century. https://sportsday.dallasnews.com/dallas-mavericks/mavericks/2018/10/20/early-season-amped-nba-scores-get-used-mark-cuban-rick-carlisle-say

If I had to guess, I'd say it was probably sweat from Rondo as he was moving his head from side to side but I agree with twitter analysis that there no actions or reactions from Rondo or Paul that looked to involve spit or spitting.

There’s a pretty convincing theory from Reddit that Paul caught some friendly fire from Melo yelling at the ref. As WorldWideWob pointed out above the angle of Rondo’s head and where the spit appeared to land doesn’t match up with Rondo being the spitter

“Back...and to the left”

https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/9q1cyk/did_melo_actually_accidentally_spit_on_cp3/?st=JNIX1IXV&sh=7a452923
Are you implying there was a second spitter?

Edit: Someone already addressed this in the comments. Omg, the magic loogy!!! I love the internet sometimes.

This is great to me. I hate Chris Paul, hate the Lakers, and love Rondo. Rondo punched him in the face, but the net result will be the Lakers losing Rondo and Ingram for a while. LeBron didn't cover himself in glory hugging up onPaul and ignoring his team. I know that's his son's godfather but shit.

An eyewitness told @thelasentinel Ramon Rondo’s significant other shoved Jada Paul, Chris Paul’s wife, who was sitting next to Savannah James. Security immediately broke the two up.

That was my initial take until I saw the replays. LeBron was standing directly behind Paul with no Lakers around. As a peacemaker he grabbed Paul and led him away from the fracas which is what he's supposed to do. It was an awkward situation for him to address later torn between a best friend and a teammate who may not be his teammate in 9 months.

Mavs 140 - T'wolves 136 in a non OT game. Blech!!! Perhaps the new rules are what the Celts are getting used to. They made it a habit of holding teams under 100 the last few years. Now it would seem 110 might be the under for a good defensive team. Double blech!!

Houston runs an iso-heavy offense centered around Harden and Paul neither of which LeBron was ever defending as he was generally on the weak side and not even involved much in the defending of the pick n roll. Not to mention he's a pretty good defender without fouling having committed 1 or 0 fouls in 37 games last season (and 2 or less in 65 of 82 games last season) including one zero foul game versus Houston and this same offense.

Whenever there is such a dramatic change in their metrics......while taking such a beating at the betting window with literally all 12 large line moves being paid out at every level (without even getting a penny back by the late adopters who are usually the suckers here) there is often an overreaction in the line that leads to value on the other side. We may see that in this coming week. For example, last night 8 of the 10 games opened at 217 or below......todays four games opened at 219.5, 225, 226.5, and 230. Three of these four have already had moves to the Under.

Real Sophie's choice between these two likeable guys fighting.

Didnt ibaka only get a game last year for throwing punches? Cant imagine they both get anything more than a few games for this

Yeah, I originally said 2 but the more I think about it I'm going to downgrade that to 1 apiece with Ingram at 3.

That's what she said.
Luka, wow! I was out all night and came home to some crazy box scores and the Laker/Rockets Mess. The NBA is going for the crown.

And I think Harden had to have stolen a girl from Ingram this summer at some club in LA to get that hard of a shove for not that much before hand.

My thouhgts on the fight.Thought I posted this last night.

1. Great left hand lead by Rondo
2. Nice job CP not going down
3. Paul landed an uppercut, but not as devastating as the one he took.
4. Where did Paul think this was going? He knows who Rondo is right?
5. CP may be through the concussion protocol; by the time his suspension is over.

Lebron did exactly what he was supposed to do as a peacemaker. He grabbed the nearest person and dragged them away. If Ingram or Rondo was in front of him, I am doubtful that he would have ran around them to go protect Paul. This seems like a severe hot take

I am a huge Brandon Ingram fan, but that sucker punch was bullshit and he deserves a 7-10 game unpaid vacation.

Of course, I had no issue whatsoever with the initial push on Harden, I hate the way they officiate Harden. On the play at issue, Harden actually veered away from the path to the basket to initiate contact with Ingram to get the call.

I'm no CP3 fan BUT that was a punk ass move by Rajon.

Count me as one of the C's fans that was glad at the time to see Rondo (and his EGO) get shipped out for some useful pieces (while he disintegrated w/the Mavs). Moving Rondo at the time also put Brad firmly in control of the club.

Rajon pulled some cheap shit crap while he was on the bench with the Bulls in the playoffs 2 years ago. Then he chimed in with some negative crap about IT4's tribute video.

Glad he's on the Lakers, I can throw more hate his way.

Yup overrated with an ego to not match his game. Rajon Rondo doing Rajon Rondo things. He should get an extra penalty for vehemently denying it.

Ingram gets 4 for his bullshit, Rondo gets 3 and CP gets 3.

I love the dude for what he did with the Cs, but that's some serious punk-ass BS from Rondo. You don't fucking spit on another man playing basketball. And Ingram with the late haymaker- kid's young and Harden will fluster the best of them, but you can't lose your shit like that.

Pretty solid match up tonight...GS vs. Denver. NBA Leagues Pass is still free, FYI
I find tremendous value in League Pass every year......however this may be the greatest value with how much excitement and different storylines are occurring this year. If anyone is or has been on the fence this is the year to jump and do it.

Tonight you've got staggered games at 6pm, 7pm, 8pm and 9pm. Between last nights games, the NBA tonight, the London game, and the Pats this has been an epic 24 hours on my couch.

Coming out party for Trae Young tonight: 30 pts (11-16 fg, 5-9 3fg), 6 assists, late in the 3rd Q.

Also: Westy is back and (seemingly) looking good: 11 pts (4-6 fg), 4 reb, 4 ast through 1 Q.

I've had the League Pass for several years now and enjoy it daily. Even the Cavs/Hawks are entertaining. Good to watch who we'll be competing with during the draft next June (thanks Philly!)

Another Over. Does anyone have the tally on how many of the Overs have hit this season?
I've only tracked the significant line moves which now makes it 13-0 with the Sacramento game another qualifier which is well on its way to making it 14-0. I'll do a quick scan and edit post in a little bit.

Edit1: I recalculated the significant line moves to the Over, they are 16-2 heading into tonight so likely to be 18-2 following the Sacramento game. The sharps are killing it and fortunately I was an early adopter in following this trend so I've caught most of it.

Edit2: Overall, entering tonight the Overs record vs closing line is 24-11 (again, likely 26-11 after Sacto game)

Edit3: So the other takeaway aside from the scoring and the sharp money killing it on the Overs.....is that the sharps are 6-0 to the Under in the few games where the money moved the line that direction. (Tonights Houston/Clipper game is the 7th move to the Under this year)

Nuggets up 10 going into the fourth, should be a good ending to this one, either way.
Didn't realize that DEN has best unadjusted and adjusted DRtg this year. Understand it's only 2 games but PHO scored 121 v DAL and then 91 v DEN. Similarly, LAC scored 98 v DEN but then scored 108 v OKC.

Will be interested in seeing how this tracks.

Go figure it's the GS/Den game that is the "low scoring" affair.

Against Golden State I don't mind Murray's foul at all with 9 seconds to go. Protects you against losing by 3 and at worst get a last shot to break the tie (assuming you don't almost do what Jokic did and be soft on the rebound).
