they got to fire him now, no?
I hope so. I can deal with the type of D, the lack of depth, having to go get Juco or 5th year transfers, etc. But what I can’t understand is how that kid made possibly the worst attempt at a goal line tackle last week, what 4 was doing on 4th down tonight, and the fact that we give up at least 5-6 big plays a game for just flat out blown assignments. Week 1 or 2, I get it. But if they are making the same mistakes this late in the season, I’m looking at the coaching. Not sure Gibson is the guy to get it done.

So assuming Georgia loses to Alabama, if Michigan wins today and beats Northwestern, it's Bama, Clemson, ND and Michigan, but if OSU wins today and beats Northwestern, are they in?

What if Oklahoma beats Texas, does OSU jump over them up to #4?

This is my go to place for all things sports related, so lay it on me someone.

At this point, I like college football more than the NFL, specifically for days like this and next Saturday, not to mention the playoff games.

Casual OU fan here.... Yes, defense in the Big 12 is lacking. But, the games can be highly entertaining, especially if you don't care much about who wins or loses. Heck, even Kansas can make games interesting, as OU and Texas found out. What's struck me is that two of the most interesting new NFL quarterbacks (Mahomes and Mayfield) are from the Big 12, and they may be able to thrive in the pros as well. (Wonder if Murray is regretting his decision to sign with the As.....)

Honestly the NFL seems to be heading in the direction of the Big 12. Pats 43 KC 40. Rams 54 KC 51. Saints 45 Rams 35. I know these are the best offenses but it is happening.

Your statement was the Big 12 is where defenses go to die, my point was its not just the Big 12 defenses. Where have I strayed from making that point? And my point concedes your point but expands it to any defense. You don’t want to admit that 45 in regulation against the #2 team in the nation is not an example of exposing that defense. Georgia’s D died that game, the fact that Oklahoma’s died worse isn’t some magic potion that brought it back to life.

Also, I never said OU played Bama (sorry you wasted time searching for that), I said WVU opened with them. While you accuse me of moving the goalpost, you quote Oklahoma’s regulation total, but add the 9 OT points for Georgia when you want to move the argument to how bad the Big 12 D is? Keep it consistent at least. So OU allowed 45 in regulation to a team that averaged 35. Can we agree on that?

Oklahoma put up 31 in the first half against Georgia when Georgia had a month to prepare. A week later, UGA shut out Bama in the first half. A reason Big 12 defenses are bad has a lot to do with the style of play in the conference, the level of the offenses, and the personnel they recruit to deal with it. Georgia’s defense died against OU and was pretty stout against Bama. These offenses are good and its more than Bama or Clemson or OSU or anyone sees on a week to week basis.
This is what you wrote:

You’re wrong. Oklahoma played in Columbus last year and embarrassed OSU. Put 48 on Georgia in the CFP. WVU opened with Tennessee. And I know that’s not Bama, but they opened with Bama a few years ago. So they do schedule those games, and those defenses show up and die.

You were able to find, what, 2 games in the last 5 seasons in which these Big 12 teams scheduled out of conference power houses? West Virginia played Bama and they lost 33-23. How exactly did Bama's defense show up and die? Oklahoma scored 31 on OSU, and then averaged 50+ in Big12 play. That's like apples and tomato cans.

But you're right, Big12 defenses are awesome. The offenses are just sooooooooooo much better.

I agree completely. I've got no rooting interest (I don't have a rooting interest in college football at all, although I'll cheer for BC based on geography alone) and I love the Big12 game for entertainment value. I don't know how anyone could have enjoyed that Rams/Chiefs game the other night, and not also enjoy the OU/WVU game last night. It's fun to watch.

That said, I doubt Murray is going to regret his decision. Normally, I'm not one that will count a guy out because of his size (Drew Brees), but Murray is small. The guys were joking yesterday about how they think the reported 5'10 height is padded. You just can't play QB in the NFL for very long being that small. He'd take a beating. The $5million that the A's gave him will help him take his mind off football once the season is over.

Yep, they know what sells tickets, and it isn't 7-3 defensive slugfests. The game has been moving in this direction for about 10+ years now. In 1984, Dan Marino became the first QB to throw for 5,000 yards in a season. Nobody else did it again for 24 years until 2008, when Brees did it. Since 2008, it's been done 8 times. 15 of the 17 highest totals in a single season have been since 2011. The rule changes, the speed, the offensive systems, the protection of receivers and quarterbacks...It's turning into a track meet, and I don't think the NFL ever puts that Genie back in the bottle, especially with sports betting being legalized and the prevalence of fantasy sports...

Harbaugh is an annoying asshole on the sideline (his freak out at the end of the Niners playoff game v. Atlanta was an all-time embarrassing tantrum), but I’d be cool not hearing about the Urban Meyer soap opera anymore.

You'll still hear it if they lose.

I've got OSU today. I hate Urban Meyer, but he'll find a way to sneak this team into the playoff. Having this game land in Columbus this year was huge for them.

That was a bit too easy there for OSU. If Michigan's defense can't stop the crossing routes, it's going to be a long day. Haskins is so accurate, he'll keep putting the ball on these receivers with running room in front of them and they'll just keep going.

Michigan goes three and out, OSU marches right down the field and goes up 7-0.

Never saw that coming.

I've seen this movie before.

3rd and 6, run a 3 yard out. Solid Michigan.
Route is fine (after all, it isn’t a coincidence a lot of receivers run routes short of the sticks on third down, the defenses are playing to the sticks) if the pass is accurate because you’re gonna get that final yard or two after the catch most of the time.

BC gives up a bomb to Syracuse, 7-7.

Georgia just having their way with Tech, 2 drives, 2td's, and every play is working, 14-0

Michigan figured out a way to stop the crossing route.

Just grab the receiver. No call, and OSU has to punt it away.

You: “it's not like either of these teams was scheduling Clemson, Georgia, LSU, Alabama, etc.”
Me: “You’re wrong”
That was the context.

And you know how scheduling works, WVU can’t exactly cancel the Tennessee game just because they happen to suck in 2018. But OU scheduled OSU home/home and WVU schedules 2 P5’s per year which have included Bama & Tenn, etc. So when I said you we’re wrong, it was to that point regarding the scheduling.

Anyway, other shit more interesting is happening today. If we were in a bar, I’d buy you beers and we could keep it going all day. Have a good one.

Michigan slowing this one way down....Good strategy to keep Haskins on the sideline and limit the possessions. Doing a great job on third down too, converting one after another. Keep it close, win it in the fourth....

Terrible penalty by OSU leads to a second straight 3rd and 16, and they are punting again. Michigan controlling this one right now.
