Figured we'd need to get one of these started. Got #10 Michigan State playing #1 Kansas to tip things off tonight, immediately followed by #4 Duke and #2 Kentucky.

Kansas looks solid early on, jumping out to a 10 point lead on MSU halfway through the 1st half.

So bizarre seeing Reid Travis in a Kentucky uniform. Ah, the innocence of "amateur" athletics.

Every point through the first four minutes of the Duke/UK game has been scored by Freshman, studs all over the floor. Wow, fun to watch.

My God, Duke doesn't look like they can be stopped. The athleticism is fucking outrageous. Zion Williamson is 6'7 and at 285, he outweighs every player in the NBA except Bogdanovich, who is 7'3? What? He has a 45 inch vertical, and just ran the point on the fast break like Magic. Oh, and the consensus 2019 #1 pick, Barrett, is on the floor with him, and Cam Reddish is draing 3's...Kentucky is getting some looks, and missing a bunch of open shots, but even if they were making them, I don't know how you stop Duke on the other end.

Oh, Zion made his first shot, a 3 that touched nothing but net, and then just converted an and 1 while posting someone up. Wow.

Neither of these teams can shoot free throws. Pretty much the only negative you can say at this point.

And there's a two handed monster jam by Zion on the break. It's not even right.

The dude is the same height as Aaron Judge, and outweighs him by 3 pounds, and has a 45 inch vertical. It's almost unimaginable.

Kind of surprised to see the refs calling every ticky tack foul both ways. A ton of fouls called so far in the 1st half, which is a pretty big departure from the way the MSU/Kansas game was officiated.

Duke looks great; they might score 100 on the #2 team in the nation. All three freshmen look like potential #1 picks.

Why does Duke have such a terrible OOC schedule this year? They usually load up.

It may seem this way due to a couple high profile games but Duke plays the same creampuff schedule as most everyone else prior to conference play.

100? LOL, they finish with 118. It's one game in, and I'm going to say it right now, if they stay healthy, this could be the best Duke team ever. Kentucky is a long, athletic and really good defensive team, and they literally had no chance at slowing down Duke. None. From the opening bell, Duke just overwhelmed them. Barrett is as good as any freshman I've ever seen at getting to the hoop, Zion is a freak like we haven't seen since Lebron and Reddish (the #3 recruit in the nation) would be the best player on any other team in the country. Tyus Jones little brother Trae, who was the #10 recruit in the country, is their point guard, and nobody even acknowledges he exists. This squad is outrageous.

Kentucky is going to be a top 5 team all year, and Duke just demolished them. I can't even imagine what Duke is going to do against average teams.

I must be remembering the big ones but I feel like a couple years ago they played like Mich State, Kansas, Florida etc. in the same year.

Watching this team makes me annoyed that SAC may not cooperate this year in Tankathon.

I don't think they have a bad OOC schedule. Kentucky, a decent chance of SDSU/Auburn/Gonzaga in Maui, Indiana, Texas Tech, and a very good St. John's team in February. So they have a shot to play 2 of the top 5 teams in the country and 5-6 NCAA tournament teams in the non-conference.

Imagine if Coach Kaye didn't take the air out of the ball with about 9 minutes to go? They were on pace to exceed 130!
It really could be SCARY!!! Not only are the Dukies loaded but they have pieces that fit with one another to go along with all the elite talent. The most underrated aspect of this team is the Tre Jones/Alex O'Connell backcourt and their roles.

Looking at the KenPom data for the last 10 years, this would appear to be Duke's 2nd toughest OOC schedule behind only 2012 when they played @ No. 2 Ohio St (KP rankings), Nos. 3, 4 and 22 Mich St, Kans and Michigan on neutral courts and home vs No. 25 (!) Belmont. I assumed matchups vs Auburn and Gonzaga at Maui making this year's top 7 NC opponents include neutral-site matchups against No. 8 Gonzaga, No. 9 UK, No. 13 Aubn and No. 21 TxTech plus home vs No. 27 Indiana and No. 39 St Jns and neutral vs No. 68 SD St.

Yes, it wasn't just the Barrett/Reddish/Zion combo, the entire team looked like aces. White and Bolden in particular looked like good, versatile defenders that did a lot of little things throughout the game that led to Duke's success. On the Zion tomahawk two-hander, the play was made by White switching onto a defender, poking the ball away, keeping it inbounds and the feeding it to Zion at the free throw line.

Jones, O'Connell, and Jack White are all really good players who will have complementary roles on this team. What impressed me is no one seemed to be out there trying to get theirs. Everyone shared the ball and got their offense in the flow of the game.

Last night was the worst margin of defeat ever for an AP No. 2 team and the 2nd worst ever of an AP Top 2 team. (No. 1 St John's lost to No. 2 Kentucky 81-40 in December 1951!)

In fact, since the AP rankings started in 1948 this is only the 10th time a Top 10 team has been defeated by a lower (or un-) ranked team by as many as 34 points - and it's the first time since Mar 2001. By order of favourite's rank:

Code:
Date Loser Rk Winner Rk Score Margin
12/51 St John's 1 Kentucky 2 40-81 -41
11/18 Kentucky 2 Duke 4 84-118 -34
03/71 Penn 3 Villanova 19 47-90 -43
03/50 Kentucky 3 CCNY Unr 50-89 -39
03/87 Purdue 3 Michigan Unr 68-104 -36
03/65 Prov 4 Princtn Unr 69-109 -40
02/56 Louis 5 Xavier Unr 59-99 -40
03/96 Villanova 6 Gtwn 8 68-106 -38
03/01 Virginia 7 Maryland 16 67-102 -35
01/73 La-Laf 8 Jckville Unr 78-120 -42

That shit was crazy! Dude will be lucky if he's not facing any type of criminal charges. He's done with school, kicked off campus as well as the team. Whew, no excuse at all.
The kid who got clocked stayed in the game and knocked down the 2 FTs.

The dude that threw the elbow is a criminal justice major.

Here’s why he was pissed. He did the "kick out the legs" thing on his shot and wanted a call.

A local boy!

Kick him off the team, sure, but barring him from campus seems extreme, like they are afraid of the wrath of social media.

Jesus, Michigan kicking the shit out of Villanova 52-23 in the 2nd half.
This is what happens when you lose your top 4 players all at once. Jay’s got a great recruiting class in this year and a monster one on the way, but this is clearly going to be a reset year.

Yeah, was just coming in to see if anyone was watching. That's a beatdown in progress.

But it's not Duke, who are up 48-13 at halftime on Eastern Michigan or something. My God, they look unstoppable.

Zion is 28-34 for his career

edit: Duke didn’t even play all that well on offense. Like 36% from 3, 9 turnovers. Could have been worse.

And 4/11 on FTs. Could have had 60 with ease

I’m sure Duke is great and all, but beating up Eastern Michigan is not equivalent to dominating the 8th-ranked defending champs on the road.

I honestly think they will have a decent year. Paschall and Booth are good players, Roundtree is a solid player, and Albany grad transfer Joe Cremo is a lights out shooter. It won't be a national title type of year, but they have a shot at getting to the 2nd weekend.

UNC lost to Wofford last year. Not because Wofford was awesome. But because UNC wasn’t close to as good as their title team. It’s not rocket science.

Big time win for Dan Hurley and UConn over Syracuse at the Garden. Let's see how they do tomorrow against either Oregon or Iowa. Eric Cobb looks 100% different than he did last year and Gilbert/Adams are healthy and playing with a chip on their shoulder.
