Damn I was hoping that Cruz could milk another year of that contract out of the Giants.

Meanwhile over in BillsTown they believe Cardale Jones can be the starter. I'm assuming this is just posturing due to Taylor's horrid contract that guarantees him 27.5 million next year.

Or they are posturing to mask their attempt to get a starter from someplace obviously not NE. One assumes they would be smart enough not to pose the Q to NE.

Some NFL broadcasting news

--Nothing is etched in stone, but once college football season ends, that means that the NFL could schedule some games in primetime on Saturdays. If that’s the case, then some teams won’t have have to deal with a Thursday night game. And it could mean a higher quality game on a Saturday as compared to Thursday. Until the schedule is released in the spring, it’s not known how many games will be played on Saturday and if this plan will come to fruition, but it’s one of many that the NFL is throwing around in the offseason.

--Another idea that the NFL is kicking around is adopting a 3 p.m./6:30 p.m. ET schedule for its Sunday playoff games, just like on conference championship Sunday.

--A couple of other tidbits for 2017, next season’s Mexico City game which will be the Oakland Raiders hosting the New England Patriots. And while last year’s game was on ESPN, the 2017 game in Azteca Stadium is expected to go to CBS.

So it doesn't look like that the Mexico City game is a MNF game.

Thank god the NFL is kicking around moving divisional games to 3/6:30 rather than moving championship weekend to 4:15/8:30.

Call me crazy, but this really doesn't seem like a horrid contract for a pretty good NFL starting QB:
http://overthecap.com/player/tyrod-taylor/1407/

Cap hits of 16, 17, 17, 17, 17. Guaranteeing those first two years seems pretty reasonable to me. Now if you think it's all McCoy and the OL, sure, you pass. If not, I'd run with it. Not sure there are better options moving forward.

The NFL used to play multiple Saturday games in December when the college season ended. Not sure why they stopped.

It's not the salary numbers or the guarantees that make this a bad contract; it's the lack of flexibility. The Bills can't get out of that deal without an eight-figure dead money hit for another three years.

Should Taylor be the Bills' starting QB in 2017? Sure. But if that goes badly, or if the Bills strike gold in the draft, they're going to pay dearly to move on from Taylor.

What am I missing? This says he'd be a $2.86M dead money hit for 2017 and then nothing after that.

Edit: wasn't the whole reason they sat him the final game was to not* lock in those big numbers to future years?

The week 17 benching was to avoid the injury guarantee kicking in, the non-injury option wasn't in play.

Maufman is talking about a lack of flexibility if the option is picked up. Now is definitely the time to cut him if they think if they don't believe in him.

Alshon Jeffery will not be tagged by the Bears.
Great when healthy, but some team will pay a boatload for his potential.
http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/alshon-jeffery-reportedly-wont-get-bears-franchise-tag-is-about-to-get-huge-payday/
As expected by many, the Bears reportedly do not plan to use the franchise tag on wide receiver Alshon Jeffery. When CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora broke down his 10 candidates to receive the tag , Jeffery was nowhere to be found.

And according to a report from Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Chicago does not plan on giving Jeffery the tag.

Boils down to Butler and an 18' 7th to Miami for a '17 1 & 5.

The is also a Garoppolo one which is Jimmy G to Chicago for 2017 and 2018 second rounders.

Giants franchised JPP. It is the non-exclusive tag which means if he plays on it he will make close to $17 million. No way this happens so my guess is that they're close to a long-term deal and they didn't want him going to FA. Someone could sign him, but they'd have to give the Giants 2 1st round picks.

I call BS. No way a 18-footer falls all the way to the 7th round. The Giants will trade up in the first to take him. Heyoo!

Per Miguel, Brown's cap hit will more than likely be larger than the entire cap hit for Pats wide receivers. Even before Amendola is restructured or cut.

My understanding was he's shown interest in Dallas. Haven't seen anything that suggests Dallas would be interested in him and frankly it's a terrible fit. I know he's from the area, but are they really going to bring him in with Elliot there already?

Yeah, this screams Giants given the organization's lack of a running game and general tolerance of all forms of abuse.

If he's willing to sign on the cheap and live with 5-10 carries per game without being a disruption, I don't see the harm from Dallas' perspective. He'd certainly be an upgrade over Morris.
