I'm calling it now, both OU and Oklahoma State will be unranked at the end of the season, after coming into the season with heisman favored QB's.
I know you must be extremely frustrated, but this is pretty severe.

In their remaining games, they play each other and share the following opponents:
  • Texas (3-2)
  • Kansas State (3-2)
  • Kansas (1-4)
  • West Va. (3-2)
OU (4-1) also plays:
  • Texas Tech (4-1)
  • TCU (5-0)
I see OU with a record of anywhere from 11-1 to 8-4 (with losses to Iowa State, and possibly TT, TCU, and OSU).

OSU (4-1) also plays:
  • Baylor (0-5, my how they rose and then fell so quickly)
  • Texas (3-2)
  • Iowa State (3-2)
I see OSU with a similar record of anywhere from 11-1 to 8-4 (losses to TCU, and possibly OU, WVA, and Iowa State).

I don’t see how both are not ranked at the end of the year - even with 4 losses.

Last year there were 8 teams with 4 losses ranked in the final Top25

Ranking Team Record
13 LSU 8-4
14 Florida 9-4
16 Virginia Tech 10-4
17 Colorado 10-4
20 Miami (FL) 9-4
21 Louisville 9-4
22 Tennessee 9-4
23 Utah 9-4

And even one team with 5 losses:

24 Auburn 8-5

I do think 8-4 is the most realistic outcome for both. I won't call which are the other 3 losses since both are very inconsistent teams. Going 8-4 in the big 12 though is like going 8-4 in the pac, so 20-25 sounds about right.

Texas-OU week. Hook ‘em.
I will be at the game. I went to one OU game as a student 30 years ago. Shannon Kelly was the QB. I think Mary Lou would have done a better job. We lost 44-3 but I met my wife-to-be that day (long story) so it all worked out.

I think we have a chance this year. Hook ‘em.

Oh man, I'm jealous. This is shaping up to be a hell of a game.

I, too, have only been to that game once - in 2005, the game which produced this hilarious meme:

If you're in town before the game and want to grab a beer, let me know. I may be in or near downtown on Friday evening.

This Syracuse-Clemson game is incredibly entertaining so far. Granted Clemson still has nearly 3 full quarters to wake up

Syracuse lost to a 3-3 MTSU this year. At home.

Yeah the coach needs to save the QB from himself. It was obvious they weren't going to have enough time to break huddle get to line and snap it. They needed to call a TO from the sidelines.

Bad Loss for Clemson. Honestly they were outplayed very badly, and this could easily have been a 2-3 TD loss

Penn State logical No. 2 in next poll. Means nothing. The Nits' season begins for real next Saturday with Michigan at home, then OSU on the road.

It's a bad loss, no doubt, but I certainly think you have to note that Clemson lost their starting QB in the 1st half, and expecting a true freshman to pull a game out on the road in his first real time on the field is a bit much to ask.

That said, this loss is on Clemson's defense. Dungey is a solid, experienced college QB, but the vaunted Clemson defense giving up 24 points in a little more than 2 quarters just can't happen. This is the kind of game where you expect the defense to pick up the offense, and they get out of there with a 24-14 win or something, but they just came up small on that side of the ball. The special teams deserves a big time share as well, with two missed field goals and awful fake punt attempt in which Dabo was seen yelling at the punter who clearly had a kick/pass option, and elected to throw it to a receiver who was covered in every direction.

Bad loss, but won’t matter if its the only one. A one loss ACC champion gets in. Period.

I don’t agree with the point that they were outplayed like you saw it BigMike. Didn’t see a 2-3 TD game in there. Orange benefitted from a bunch of stupid Clemson penalties and busted coverages. Winning by 3 is about all that effort could have hoped for. If Clemson makes those kicks, that last possession is for a tying FG and they would have had to field the punt they faked and gone the length.

This was a bad recipe for Clemson, short week on road against tempo, before a bye week. Venebles likes to get D calls in late. Running tempo on O makes it difficult for him to read the alignment and leaves more to the kids on the field. They clearly weren’t ready to adjust. Rarely got lined up right.

Good job on Cuse though.

Also, Clemson already has enough on the resume where the “bad loss” means nothing. They could have lost to the Citadel and it won’t matter. If they finish with one loss, they’ll have road wins at Louisville, NCState, Virginia Tech, and South Carolina with home wins against FSU, Auburn, Georgia Tech, plus the ACC game versus Miami? One bad loss means nothing with their schedule. And I’m not saying they don’t drop another, just “one” won’t matter if it ends up that way.

Syracuse had 123 more yards offense, and 12 more first downs than Clemson. Cuse actually had one more penalty on the night. Cuse had to settle for a FG on a drive where the QA got hurt on a goal line play and had to come out on 4th down. Cuse had a red zone trip that ended up in a 3rd and 32 play which was fumbled and returned for a TD. Game could have easily been 24-7 at the half

Honestly Clemson couldn't cover anyone all night long

not to mention that weak offensive PI call that negated a Syracuse touchdown. The next play was the fumble return for a TD.
Syracuse never trailed the entire game and was statistically better in all phases. Clemson might beat Syracuse 8 or 9 times out of 10, but on this particular night that was a very solid win.

I'm excited for you. I've never gone and it is on my college football bucket list (knocked off the seeing a game at LSU one a few weeks ago when Syracuse played there). My wife will be on the sideline tomorrow. She works for the athletic department and travels with the football team (I was surprised they drove up this afternoon rather than fly). Hopefully it works out one of these years.

I hope it does play out that way if for no other reason than Dabo Swinney. He might be the only HC composed enough and classy enough to do this:

http://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/21016741/clemson-dabo-swinney-pays-congratulatory-visit-syracuse-upset

Everything else being equal, I want this rewarded.

These young men are not machines. Alabama recently looked very ordinary early in a season that landed them in the Championship game.

It was hilarious, but I totally get why Saban this week went off on ESPN's "rat poison."

They did the same thing last year with a "bad" loss at Pitt and won the NC; this game was bad for them (and I thought it was their Offensive Line that lost them the game, ton of blown assignments from the RBs as well in protection) but if they win out they will 100% be in the playoff.

Washington State losing by 30 points to a terrible Cal team defies logic. Already a weird weekend and Saturday hasn't started yet. The best upset weekends are those where you look at the slate of games and nothing excites you and you think about skipping Saturday altogether. Now, in this case maybe all the upsets have happened before Noon.

Agreed except for the misdirection on the penalty stats. Penalties and yards tell a different story. Clemson 11/119, Cuse 12/100. I agree Clemson was outplayed/coached, but the game was never out of hand or in danger of turning into a 2-3 TD deficit. Clemson was always one stop and one TD away from winning the game. They just couldn’t do it, but they were never in danger of needing 3 stops and 3 scores. Just wasn’t close to being that type of game.

Uh, yeah. But that's why it's a bad loss. Because now when they drop one of those other games (which won't be a bad loss), they won't make the playoffs when they otherwise would.

And yes, while I agree it's very likely they'd still get in with one loss, there is still some chance that the other power conference champs go undefeated (or Alabama has one loss), and they'd be kept out.

Teams that would almost certainly be in the playoffs over Clemson if they win out:
1. Alabama/Georgia/Auburn
2. Penn State/Wisconsin/OSU
3. Washington
4. TCU/Oklahoma
5. Notre Dame

And then there are a bunch of teams that would have a chance, USC, etc.

FSU just got totally bailed out. Their QB targeted after a pick and should have been booted. No balls by the zebras

Seeing it again it is fucking disgusting

It was the RB actually. Patrick. Would have set Duke up on the FSU 35 in a 10-10 game. Instead it was Duke ball at the 50, drive went nowhere, FSU drove for a TD, and now FSU looking to close it out. If Duke was ever to best FSU today was the day...alas

Boston College is looking surprisingly competent on offense with a new QB against Louisville. They're up 28-21. It's reminiscent of their 2014 game against USC with a mostly rushing attack.
