Not a great one for the neutral, but I’m pumped. Showed spirit, held off the Pigs for 30+ minutes down a man, even had the best chance late. Hopefully a nice kickstart to the next season and beyond.

I'll be on the road so I'll miss it, but anyone who can should check out the Derby-Bristol City game today at 2:45 on ESPN3. Should be a solid showcase for the league.

And it ends in 0-0 draw. Derby had the better scoring chances and were certainly screwed when a penalty in the box against newly signed Cameron Jerome ended with the ref giving a yellow to Jerome for diving.

Wolves dominating. Derby, Villa and Fulham on the rise. Leeds on a greased slide to oblivion.
Then there's Wednesday.
I know it's been a tough season for you DH, and I feel for you.
I've been impressed by the effect Carvalhal has had on Swansea. They look like they could beat the drop. It made me think about the way the league works. We all hope a team can get promoted, but even if it doesn't, the best players, and the best coaches, eventually move up.
I think CC's stock is on the rise.

I have a ton to say about this season...but let me just quickly say this about Carlos: Legend in my mind, but it was time to go. His style and man management approach can be wonderful with the right mix, but he clearly stayed a year too long. The inmates were running the asylum, and that brought the house down. I’m rooting for him at Swansea, but I’m also very pleased with Jos Luhukay. 3 points in 3 games @Pigs, @Boro, and hosting Cardiff. Three of the top 8 and no goals conceded all with a new manager and missing probably 8 of the starting 11.
This year is shot barring a miracle, but I think we’re a strong promotion candidate next season, even with minimal roster turnover.

Wednesday host the Swansea/Notts County winner in the FA Cup 5th round. So there’s that.

We havent checked in on this for a while.

Wolves are up....Fulham (ugh) and Cardiff are jockeying for that 2nd spot. Aston Villa has locked in a playoff spot. The remaining two will likely come from Derby, Millwall, Middlesboro, Bristol, or Sheffield, with Brenton and Preston still in range.

I'm just happy QPR got hot enough to be safely in the middle.

Burton and Sunderland look likely to drop, with Barnsley, Bolton, Birmingham, and Reading all in range for that last spot.

This season is the one I thought Reading was going to have last season. In other words I know nothing. Jaap Stam has been replaced and the Paul Clement led Reading has won 2 of their last 4 to keep their noses out in front of the relegation pack. 4 more points should probably be enough with only 4 to play and a 5 point lead on Barnsley in the race to go down. This Saturday home against Sunderland would be a good place to pick up 3 of those points and would nearly end Sunderland's faint hopes of staying in the Championship. The two after that are at Wednesday and home to Ipswich before what I hope is a meaningless trip to Cardiff on the last day of the Season. Its been a rough season with too few goals, 46, "good" for 17th in the division, scored and too many goals, 61, also 17th in some weird horrible symmetry, conceded.

Bummer for Sunderland, especially Lynden Gooch.

Surprised by Wolves, last year they looked absolutely miserable for much of the season, in the relegation zone for good parts of it (before rallying to 15th). That's quite a 12-month turnaround, leading the league by 11 points now.

Derby win the home 1st leg of their semifinal against Fulham 1-0.

And ESPN has moved their coverage from ESPN 3 to ESPN +. I was blacked out from my Derby subscription because it was airing in the U.S. only to have to buy another subscription to catch the game.

Well worth it for that.

Rowatt is a good manager...I know it looked like typical Derby down the stretch, but the ship was righted and you played some good ball the last few fixtures.

That’s a big win today. I’d expect Fulham to throw the sink at Deby back at CC.

Bolton and Fulham are 2 of my least favorite clubs, so hoping Fulham doesnt go up.
That hurts.

Well we’re staying up. Proud of my hometown. No transfers paid in 3 years and one promotion and a survival anyways.

Congrats. That mess of B teams at the bottom was pretty ugly.

Villa beat Boro 1-0 at the Riverside. I liked Villa to go thru regardless...Boro has felt a little to dependent on Traore (who is awesome), whereas Villa have more talent spread around. I’ll take Pulís 10 out of 10 times, but Brucie can figure out how to slow one man.

As a Wigan fan I’m supposed to dislike Bolton, but I hold them no ill will.

Who the fuck can?

I frankly don’t care for any of the clubs in the Championship playoff- Fulham most deserves it, so I’d like to see them get it.

I still have no idea how Cardiff got 2nd...I thought they were mediocre at best every time I saw them. Huge credit to Dickface for pulling that one off, but I’ve already seen stories that they’re no planning on spending much for next season, and they’ll get killed.

Of course Huddersfield stayed up, but Wagner is a much better manager than Warnock, whose specialty is promotion followed by disasterous flameout.

Incidentally, welcome back to the Championship @swiftaw and nice job getting back out- League One is a quagmire.
Thanks, won the league and made the FA Cup Quarter Final by knocking out multiple premier league teams so a pretty pleasing season overall. Now have to make sure we don’t go straight back down again like last time.

That’s right! I don’t know how I forgot about you beating City (talk about you burying the lede). From what I’ve read, Paul Cook knows what he’s doing...competent management alone will keep you up I would guess. Maybe Will Grigg will do something in the Championship this time around.

All good man....the Bolton thing is highly personal. As a QPR fan, had some really ugly exchanges with Bolton fans back in 2011-2012 season and i developed a personal distaste. I probably should get over it.

Fulham is just because,well, Fulham

Any Americans in the remaining L1 or Champ playoff teams?

Fulham-Derby 2nd leg today.
Tim Ream has played a very serviceable CB for Fulham this season. There may be a few other Americans scattered about the other 3 championship teams, but I can't think of anyone who makes an impact.

- the aforementioned Ream
- Luca de la Torre is a squad player for Fulham who has made a few appearances, but he won't be in the 18 in the playoffs
- Duane Holmes is a 23 year old winger for Scunthorpe. 7g/4a in League One. Questionable whether he'd make the grade in the Championship at this point.

Congrats to the cake eaters from West London. they were the 2nd best team in the Championship this year.
