This isn't someone like Vlade Divac making this pick though. Ainge has always been at the forefront of analytics. There are circumstances where models cannot possibly factor in and the one Brown was in as a 19-year old freshman seems to me like it is one of them where traditional scouting carries much greater weight.
Fwiw, I'm ok with the pick. He's smart, he's a bulldog, he's a hard worker, and he's got arguably the best athletic tools of anyone on the draft.

He's also extremely poloarizing.

Again I'm trusting a former college roommate who basically works as a gopher at the tribune . Chicago wanted #3 and 2017 Nets pick, plus crowder and Bradley for butler. Again take it as grain of salt based on who's it's from. He claims it'll come out soon as bulls apparently asking for Dunn,Lavine(who they love) and Dieng
This makes sense based on Wyc's comments. In other words.....the Bulls were never trading Butler.

That is a shit-ton to give up for Ibaka. And we are pissed about not getting Butler for #3, Smart, and a couple of picks?

I keep replaying Bogaerts walk off. It's helping me deal with the nauseous feeling every time think about Silver announcing the pick. Then I remember dropping 3/4 to the other Sox and I get depressed again

Seeing the highlights of Brown I'm worried he's going to get called for three offensive fouls every night.

IF this is true, then Wyc was right and I'm glad Danny passed.

Apparently not to the Celtics...maybe your Eastern Conference theory was correct. Because it seems as if Butler will be a Wolf by the end of the night

For me, it is more the Fab Melo pick. Complete waste. Ainge also drafted Rozier and Hunter the year after drafting Smart. His picks when standing on their own aren't as bad, but unfortunately as far as team building goes, it has been pretty bad.

The Celts are good due to his tremendous hire of Stevens, trade for Thomas, and solid FA signings. Ainge as a drafter has been below average.
Fab Melo was picked 22nd. What do you reasonably expect with that pick?

He wasn't my preference, but you're right- really bright, high character guy who is crazy strong and athletic, with fantastic defensive versatility. Blue chip prospect who was in a situation at Cal that didn't play into his strengths. Easy enough to get excited about this kid.

Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck asked if he's surprised to hear boos when addressing Boston's draft party after selecting Jaylen Brown: "Fourteen years, that's probably the worst [reaction] I've gotten. But I'll view this as people really care. ... But I actually believe that, if those fans knew what I knew and were in that room, I think most of them might have done the same thing. But no problem. Bring it on. They are Celtics fans and they've earned the right to say whatever they want."

I don't know what this is based on. Without getting into a stats vs. scouts thing, apart from Smart, Ainge has not really taken analytics darlings in the draft.

I agree Ainge isn't Vlade Divac, but he's also not Belichick. He hasn't really earned any benefit of the doubt with respect to his drafting. He's been fine.

It's possible. I'll demand apologies from anyone who said that wasn't a thing. (kidding about apologies)

That's very high for Prince. There will be some good options at 16. Then Danny will draft Richardson and I will cry myself to sleep.

Look at his front office over the years. He's had high level analytical guys there since he took the job. Were they a front? We don't know how much influence and weight analytics played but you can't deny that he has embraced it with the front office teams he's built.
