Am I illiterate? Doesn't this trade mean we get the Clips pick next year if they make the playoffs?

Remember the Celtics have to keep roster space available for the 2 Max Contract guys they are bringing in this summer

OK, that's a sucky trade right there. Faith in Danny is wavering for the first time. These high seconds are really valuable with the cap exploding, and he's giving two away for nothing.
Seems a bit strong here. Doesn't seem like that big a deal.

I'd bet this pick changes hands again before 2019.

we already have a decent all round and shot-blocking big in Jordan Mickey so missing out on Davis doesn't seem all that important to me

Somewhere
The Celtics currently have 14 players on their roster. Yes, they can and will waive some of those guys but it's unlikely that an early second rounder, even in the best drafts, is good enough to displace an already rostered NBA player. This, by the way, diminishes the Celtics' leverage in any trade, particularly because no one is going to engage in a bidding war over a couple of longshot draft prospects.

One reason I'm fine with that trade... I don't think there is a guy left who definitely makes the roster. Brown and Zizic are going to be on the roster, and they'll likely sign at least 1 free agent. There just isn't much roster room or playing time for these guys and they can get the one of the guys willing to be non-roster stashed at 45, 51,58

People can't shit enough on ESPN but come draft day everybody freaks out over the slightest deviations from their mocks. I love it.
No kidding. Chad Ford and Danny Ainge disagree and we assume Ainge is wrong. I guess it's because we've been looking at Ford's list for a year and Danny's has been a secret?

Don't worry, Chad's might look like Danny's before next season

GS got McCaw for $2.4M cash. So yeah looks like nobody is thrilled to be picking in the second of this draft.

I am reading conflicting reports on Zizic and his availability for next year. Brian Robb on Twitter said he doesn't have a buyout and therefore has to stay in Euripe for a year. Would think the Celtics would prefer for him to develop another year

Onuaku is a Morey pick. McCaw is a nice pick for Golden State. Brogdon should be able to carve out career as a role player.

Having decent talent on your team is not a reason to miss out on other decent talent. Plus, we don't really have much reason to think Mickey can play yet.

Who do they release to roster Davis though? I guess Young? I'd rather cut young for a FA signing who I know is an NBA rotation player than a guy who probably won't be one for a year or two even as his BCA.

I'm a big fan of Davis (he was in my top 10), so I'd rather have Davis than the FA signing, or you know, two of the actual first round picks.

This is hyperbole, but I don't think it's that nuts either:

Mickey, who they really like it's been written, has a hard time finding minutes. How are they going to find minutes to see if Davis can play?

Eight picks and no roster space is a tough equation to solve.

Demetrius Jackson... terrific value, but.... Point Guard, also don't think he wants to be stashed.

Recent story on the newest Celtic, Notre Dame PG Demetrius Jackson

http://www.si.com/nba/2016/06/22/demetrius-jackson-2016-nba-draft-notre-dame-mike-brey

Exerpt: The diminutive point guard’s affinity for basketball’s biggest stage sparked his surge up draft boards over a year ago. Now mere hours before the 2016 NBA Draft, Jackson could crack the vaunted lottery and will certainly hear his name called in the first round.

Well to be fair we don't have any reason to feel that Davis can either. As conference play progressed Davis appeared more and more clueless out on the floor while never earning Izzo's trust. He is a long long way from playing in an NBA game.

Does Bentil fall to the Celtics? Good value pick or would he not have any role on this team?
Depends if he's willing to not sign a contract and be stashed in Maine. If not then no he has no chance.

Edit- Well they drafted him so maybe he agreed to be stashed.

I like the picks here in the second, honestly I like pretty much all the picks, but I think they can only roster 2, maybe 3 of them max so have to wonder who'll agree to be stashed.

Bentil - yeah! One of my friends is a Providence alum and bigtime friars fan and argues that Bentil was often better than Dunn this year. Great pick actually

OK, I love the Bentil pick. Danny is redeeming himself here a bit.
I love it as a Friar fan but I don't like Bentil at all as an NBA player. He doesn't have quick lift in traffic, is a horrific defender, and one dimensional offensively. Big mistake him leaving Providence this year. Great college player whose game doesn't translate to this level.

I mean, he was better than Dunn because many times Dunn was facing double teams, and sometimes, double and a half.

I agree, HRB, he needs a lot of work and may never be an asset, but the improvement from last year to this year, there is potential.

I disagree that it was a mistake to leave college. With dunn leaving, his weaknesses would be exposed next year and I think it was a guarantee that he would be picked this year. Next year, not so much

Hmmm, that's sobering coming from a Friar fanatic. The local coach talking head, Tim Welsh, has been ballwashing Bentil big time. I bought into the hype.
