For what? More first or second rounders that no one cares about?Shams Charania @ShamsCharania 12s12 seconds ago
Boston is drafting Deyonta Davis and sending him to Memphis, league sources tell The Vertical.
Wish for 31 to begin with a Z.I don't even know who to wish for considering we still have 5 more picks.
2019 first round draft pick to MemphisAny protection on that pick?
Lottery in 2019 and 2020 then becomes a 2nd.That's kind of amazing if it isn't heavily protected.
According to Real GM, that pock is heavily protected: "2019 first round draft pick to MemphisJeff Goodman @GoodmanESPN 45s45 seconds ago
Celtics Traded 31 and 35 for future Clipper first 2019, source told ESPN. Memphis owned clipper pick.
It's not nothing, it's a late 1st. He can't roster many more guys.OK, that's a sucky trade right there. Faith in Danny is wavering for the first time. These high seconds are really valuable with the cap exploding, and he's giving two away for nothing.
I agree. Just a really curious move.OK, that's a sucky trade right there. Faith in Danny is wavering for the first time. These high seconds are really valuable with the cap exploding, and he's giving two away for nothing.
Ugh. Solid chance that Doc (the GM) manages to fuck things up enough for the Clips to bottom out in 3 years. Would have rather taken a flyer on Davis + another draft and stash.Lottery in 2019 and 2020 then becomes a 2nd.
It's heavily protected and conveys to a second-rounder in 2020. That would be close to nothing. It's not nothing, it's a late 1st. He can't roster many more guys.
But it is protected right?Ugh. Solid chance that Doc (the GM) manages to fuck things up enough for the Clips to bottom out in 3 years. Would have rather taken a flyer on Davis + another draft and stash.
But then what are second round picks? It's heavily protected and conveys to a second-rounder in 2020. That would be close to nothing.
Huh? It's either a non-lottery 1st or it's a high second, for 2 high seconds they don't have roster spots for. If a late 1st or early 2nd is nothing then the 31 and 35 are also basically nothing. It's heavily protected and conveys to a second-rounder in 2020. That would be close to nothing.
Not the first pick of the second round...pretty sure it won't be there. But then what are second round picks?
Well, 31 and 35 are high 2nds, and with the cap exploding, having cheap cost-controlled roster filler is more valuable than ever. Mediocre rotation guys are going to be getting stupid money going forward. To trade these two high 2nds for a single 2nd in 2020, especially with some intriguing players still on the board right now, kinda sucks. It's hard to be enthused about it.But then what are second round picks?
A first rounder likely to convey in 3 or 4 years. Very slim chance Deyonte Davis changes the fortunes of that pick one way or the other. Also, if he is going to Memphis, doesn't that make them better. Don't the Celts own a Memphis first rounder in the future.
Seems like a pretty poor trade.
I'm fine sacrificing time for value (like with the Memphis pick), but only if there is some upside. This move really has me questioning DA for the first time...Wow. Not sure how I feel about that trade. Just based on the time value of pretty much anything...that is a long way out and not even sure if the Clippers will be bad then. It is possible the Celts just traded 31 and 35 for a pick in the late 20's in three years..that is a little strange.
I would think Davis would be of more helpful than a late first rounder three years from now.

The Celtics don't have any roster space. Beyond that, this is widely considered a really bad draft. I don't know that any of these guys are going to do much to move the needle, especially for the Celtics who would just be dumping them in the D-League or Europe.Well, 31 and 35 are high 2nds, and with the cap exploding, having cheap cost-controlled roster filler is more valuable than ever. Yeah, that was hard to ignoreCan I be honest. Deyonta Davis seems really stupid even for a NBA prospect.
