That camera view was pretty amazing. That call probably does not get changed in the regular season.

I wonder if Maddon was really just using him for the high leverage spot. Taking the possible injury out if the equation, maybe you just bring him in there to get into the dugout with a 5 run lead, and you bring in whoever-the-fark else in the 8th and 9th.

Crazy, but maybe not crazy.

What if he goes back out for the 8th?

With having another former closer in Rondon, that may be the thinking. But it still may not be smart.

Not in a win or go home game. If the next man in shits the bed, you don't have Chapman to stop the bleeding. If he's not hurt, he's pitching the remainder I'd think – unless the Cubs add on.

That one is tougher than normal since they need to be watching both feet. Normally umps are just listening for the glove hitting the mitt on bang bang plays while watching the foot of the runner, which is why I think they tend to get them right much more often than they get it wrong

Possible. Or hope you score more in the 8th.

Say they load the bases on whoever, now you don't have chapman to bring in. I think he's in until at least the beginning of the 9th.

I can't imagine this. It would be beyond idiotic to have Chapman record a 7 out save with a 5 run lead and a do-or-die game tomorrow night

This place would be melting down if Farrell and Kimbrel were the names in play...

So worst case, Chapman is out for game 7 -- they can replace him on the roster, right?

Maybe Maddon is also an amateur meteorologist and he's counting on a rain-out tomorrow giving Chapman extra rest :p

Well then my theory would be wrong.

Listen, if they don't win tonight, none of it matters. Bring in your best reliever when a 5 run game could be a 2 run game in one swing? I guess I'm ok with that. You have Hendricks, who should, in theory, give you 5-6 good innings. You have Lester available for however long he can go at full throttle. You can have Lackey throwing as hard as he can for an inning. And you can work the rest of the bullpen in situationally. Then Chapman for 1.

This is where I'm at. I'll just about buy the "two men on and it was starting to get out of hand" makes the decision to bring in Chapman merely ill-advised. But running him 2 more innings after that play at first is jumping into the bear cage while wearing salmon-flavored deodorant level stupid.

Could happen ...looks like heaviest rain wont arrive until after 11 pm. May just squeeze it in.
