Terry Collins: "It's become a young man's game, especially with all of the technology stuff you've got to be involved in. I'm not very good at it. I don't enjoy it like other people do. I'm not going to sit there today and look at all of these [expletive] numbers and try to predict this guy is going to be a great player. OPS this. OPS that. GPS. LCSs. DSDs. You know who has good numbers? Good [expletive] players."

a lot of speculation at why Harvey may be missing his first start on Opening Day. some thinking might be alcohol, others some sort of STD. lolol. All Mets would say was doc visit was not "orthopedic" in nature.

Steven Matz with by far the worst start of his career so far, 7 runs in the second capped by a trademark Stanton moon shot.

Mets looking to deal Bruce.

Makes some sense.

Even if they had to salary dump him, use that savings for Holland.

Some remarkably anachronistic quotes from Sandy Alderson about the state of the Mets, pretty glad this guy's not running my team. It's clear from some of his personnel moves (signing Cabrera to play SS, piling up a ton of corner OFs and none who can play CF well) that he doesn't care much about defense but the rationale is so simplistically dumb, I'd be infuriated if I was a Mets fan:

===================================

“As I sit here I say, ‘Gee, defense can’t possibly be as important as offense, it’s only a percentage of what comes to play in run prevention,’ ’’ Alderson said. “Not to say it’s not important, but ultimately in terms of priorities, it’s a little less important. What really is important on that side of the ball is pitching and our pitching has been lousy, and it’s partly because of injuries and it’s partly because of performance. … In terms of having a bias towards offense I think that will probably always exist with me.’’

The wrong side of the bridge....

Aaaaand sure enough, the Mets are sporting the 2nd highest BABIP allowed in the NL. They're middling in most of the defense-independent metrics--FIP, xFIP, SIERA--but next to last in ERA. Can you come work for one of our AL East rivals, Sandy?

Portland
Jim Bowden left a huge hole behind when he was canned by ESPN that I'm sure Sandy Alderson will fill some day.

From MLB
https://www.mlb.com/news/david-wright-to-play-one-last-game/c-294490420

"No matter what else happens, he is scheduled to start at third base Sept. 29 against the Marlins.

At that point, Wright's future becomes complicated. Both Wright and Mets chief operating officer Jeff Wilpon were careful not to use the word "retirement," saying instead that Wright will not be medically able to play beyond September. He is still under a guaranteed contract worth $27 million in 2019 and '20, and a source indicated Wright will receive that entire salary. For most of the past two seasons, the Mets have recouped 75 percent of Wright's money via an insurance policy; what, if any, agreement they made in that arena remains a private matter for now
