OU got away with one of the bonehead drop-the-ball-before-it-crosses-the-goal line moves. I can't fucking understand why these idiots keep doing that. It's seemingly becoming more frequent, and reminds me of the suicide discussion in The Tipping Point.
JFC, this Cal idiot just did it, too.

Most selfish play in football history.

All he had to do was fall down and the game was over. He wanted the glory and ran for the TD and drops the ball short of the endzone.

What a stupid decision. Texas recovered it!

lolwut? There was nothing wrong with heading to the end zone. The problem was releasing the ball to start patting yourself on the back.

If he goes down, it's 3 kneel downs and the game is over.

If he scores, it's possible for Texas to get the ball, score, onside kick, and score again. Not likely, but more likely than Texas getting the ball somehow on a screwed up kneel down

Either way, obviously dropping the ball is far stupider regardless

Yes, I get the million to one chance, but it's not the most selfish play to get into the end zone. It's done 999 out of 1000 times in that situation, and a coach is gonna be fine going up 13 there rather than have his skill players do too much thinking in most instances.

When Utah did it last year, the side judge stood parallel to the ball and didn't blow the whistle, and Oregon picked up the ball and ran it back for a TD. Sucks for Texas that the play was blown dead, they could have picked it up sooner but it didn't seem like it was that much later.

Yeah, sorry if it came off wrong - I agree with you, I considered 'most selfish play in history' to incorporate the dropped ball as well (it's literally giving up 7 points and giving Texas its only chance to win the game solely to look cool).

So what have we learned?
The Big12 is toast already. No chance of having a final 4 team.
The ohio st /Michigan winner is in
The ACC Clemson v Louisville winner is in. FSU is out
Alabama is the only SEC team worth caring about
The Pac10 is down
Houston v Louisville winner in?

No one plays defense in cfb

The Michigan/OSU winner is in? Just like last year I guess. Oh that's right, MSU beat them both in their house last year and has them both in EL this year. OSU has been impressive while MIchigan has beat the tar out of two crap teams and let a mediocre Colorado team hang around.

Dropping the ball before entering the endzone is the most brainless epidemic since Zika
It is such a weird phenomenon. The upside of this maneuver is that, what, you look cool to just drop the ball as close to the goal line as possible? The downside is losing 7 points and causing a turnover. It is crazy.

For the first time in the 80 year history of the AP poll, the big 12 has no teams in the top 15.
Baylor is 16 but the point remains. Meanwhile, the Big 10 is all over the polls. The Big 10 is something else this year, after a number of years of just being the conference Ohio State rolled through, which Mich St and Wisconsin were ok.

edit - Four Big 10 teams in the top 11.

MSU has won the conference title 2 of the last 3 years, made the playoff last season, won a Rose Bowl and a Cotton Bowl and 11+ games 5 of the last 6 years all while beating OSU 2 of the last 3 years. Since when is that "ok". The Big Ten has been 2 top dogs for the last 5-6 years, OSU and MSU.

All of that was true until the last sentence. Wisconsin was better than MSU in 09, 10, 11, and 12.

Wisconsin did beat MSU in the conference championship, but I think that MSU was the better team in 2011. I will admit, that is subjective and the Badgers beat the Spartans so it's hard to argue results, but.......I don't know. One man's opinion.

2012 was a sham all around, but MSU were terrible and I doubt they could have run with the Badgers that year.

When a punt returned all the way to the 1 yard line with about a minute to play was nullified by a running into the punter call that was bullshit. That was a terrific back and forth game.

Bottom line is both programs have been damn good since 2010.
